Bills RB Derrick Henry Traded to Chargers For Picks, Forfeit Picks in Rams Tampering Case
The Los Angeles Chargers have a 2028 third round pick, a 2028 fifth round pick and a 2029 seventh round pick to the Buffao Bills in exchange for star running back Derrick Henry.

Henry, 32, was in the final year of his contract with the Bills after signing with the team back in 2025. He rushed for 1,156 yards that season and fourteen touchdowns, his first 1,000-yard season since 2021 after missing 20 games in the last three seasons.

The former Crimson Tide running game missed three games last season as well but still managed to score eleven touchdowns. His carries did go down as the team continued to utilize pro bowl running back Eno Benjamin more often due to his duality as a receiver.

The trade came the same day that the Chargers forfeited their seventh round pick in 2028 as a result of tampering charges brought by the Los Angeles Rams regarding the illegal recruiting of cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

The Chargers were also fined $500,000 and GM Stephon White $75,000.

Henry Hurt in Chargers Loss to 49ers
The Los Angeles Chargers were on their way to a flawless preseason with no major injuries and no losses. And then came Friday night.

Newly acquired running back Derrick Henry got hurt, the offense was ineffective and the defense was leaky at best in the team's 33-14 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Henry was one of the few projected starters out there, receiving a carry on 3rd and one in what was supposed to be his final drive according to Brian Flores. Henry was stuffed at the line of scrimmage and went down holding his shoulder before jogging off the field and did not return.

Early reports suggest that the running back tore his shoulder and will be out for a period of time.

"We wanted to get him some touches," said Flores of the decision to start Henry, "Get him comfortable in the offense and that's unfortunate."

On defense, the Chargers struggled against former Charger Khalil Tate. Tate went 14 of 15 for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

Flores and the Chargers have until Sunday night to trim their roster down to 53.

Stock Up
1. Jaron Medlock and Clinton McDonald were one of the few bright spots with McDonald rushing for 51 yards and Medlock having three catches for 63 yards and the score. Medlock more than likely secured his roster spot while for McDonald, it might be a case of too little, too late.

Stock Down
1. The secondary was atrocious, albeit it was the second unit out there for most of the night. If one of the Chargers top corners go down, they're in trouble.

2. The coaching staff for playing Henry one drive too many. The offensive line was struggling in the first drive and it was clear that San Francisco simply had their number up front so why throw him out there for another drive only to get hurt?

3. None of the quarterbacks played great with Will Castonzo getting the day off, perhaps a hint on who the coaching staff will ultimately name the starter. Mariota only had one passing attempt in what was a quick first quarter and Rashaud Wheaton went 3 of 7 for 28 yards with some big misses. Lucas Regan was the best of the bunch, going 5 of 11 for 81 yards and a touchdown, relying on a few big plays to his numbers up.

Chargers finalize 53-man roster, release depth chart
The Los Angeles Chargers have trimmed their roster to 53 men and have released the 2027 depth chart for the team's season opener against the Houston Texans.

Several of the players that were cut were starters last season, including veteran guards Darryl Williams and Nelson Halladay. Last year's starting QB Rashaud Wheaton was placed on the practice squad.

On offense, it was announced that Will Castonzo will be the starter at quarterback with Marcus Mariota backing him up. With Derrick Henry sidelined a few weeks with a shoulder injury, Felix Whittaker is listed as the starter followed by Kyree Sampson and Duke Johnson Jr.

Along the offensive line, it's rookie left tackle Melvin McKinley, rookie left guard Chauncey Truman, free agent acquisition Austin Griggs at center, rookie right guard Jerron Bowman and last year's left tackle Colton McKivitz makes the switch to right.

Defensively, it's business as usual with Malik Truman and Donovan Bigby being listed as co-starters opposite of Jalen Ramsey.

Number changes include Derrick Henry being assigned #22 after wearing #21, with the blessing of LaDanian Tomlinson, during his lone preseason appearance. Will Fuller V will wear #17

Chargers Overcome Slow Start, Score 31 Unanswered Points in Win Over Texans
After winning the NFL offseason, the Los Angeles Chargers season couldn't have gotten off to a worse start in front of a sold out home crowd.

Deshaun Watson picked them apart on the first scoring drive and after three-and-out from the Chargers offense, it took just one play for Joe Mixon to take it 81-yard and put the Chargers in a 14-0 hole early in the game.

The Chargers would go on to score 31 unanswered points, including three first half touchdowns from rookie QB Will Castonzo in his debut as the Chargers beat the Texans 36-24.

Castonzo finished the game 18 of 27 for 227 yards and no turnovers. He also rushed for 40 yards on three carries with his lone fumble being a questionable out of bounds hit. It wasn't all roses for the Chargers as D.K. Metcalf left the game in the first half with a back injury.

Metcalf downplayed the severity of the injury after the game and expects to be back next week.

Houston scored ten points in the fourth quarter to make it close after being shutout for middle fifteen of the game. Watson completed 29 of 37 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns. Mixon rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown.

I would say so, we lost a lot of close games or games that were close for a while and then busted open due to a lack of offense. I figure we score around 28 points per game and get anywhere from 8-11 wins.
