This shit getting too easy for you.

Although losing to Notre Dame might be worse than losing to Miami if you lost to ND.

I'm glad we got challenged at least for a few games, made it less boring to just trample through. Hopefully we get some good games in the CCG or playoffs :yep:

What Trap Game? Sooners Shutout Tigers To Cap Perfect Regular Season
Boone Tillman // Sooner BornPublished: December 12th, 2029

There were many, myself included, who thought this had all the makings of a trap game. Oklahoma had already clinched the SEC Championship Game, meaning even a loss would only drop them a few spots in the rankings, Heisman front-runner Brad Thorne was out with a shoulder injury, and Markelle Nickey had looked very shaky the last few weeks.

So of course, Oklahoma routed the LSU Tigers with a 48 point shutout to cap one of the most dominant regular seasons in Oklahoma history.

The day started off ominous for the Sooners, as Markelle Nickey was picked off on the opening drive after an ill-advised throw into double coverage. Thankfully, Oklahoma's defense showed that they were ready to make life miserable for the LSU Tigers, forcing a quick three-and-out with a nine-yard sack that pushed the Tigers near the limit of field goal range.

Kenny Dillingham trotted John Hunter out anyway, and the 56-yard attempt hooked right. It would be the last scoring attempt for the LSU Tigers in the contest.

Isaac Adcock exploded for a pair of touchdowns as Oklahoma quickly built a 14-0 lead that had the Tigers panicking by the time the second quarter rolled around. Despite only trailing 14-0, Kenny Dillingham went for a 4th-and-3 near midfield.

The results were disastrous. Not only did Keilan Lewis get stuffed for a four-yard loss by Fredrick Garbutt, but the very next play Markelle Nickey hit Darren Lyles on a 43-yard touchdown that broke the game open.

If that wasn't enough to smother the Tigers' momentum, the 11 sacks absorbed by Grant Yates and Tony Pujals certainly did. The pressure by the Sooners was so intense that Yates was knocked out of the game midway through the second quarter and would not return. In all, Yates was hammered for five sacks while Pujals ate six of his own in the lopsided Oklahoma victory.

By halftime the score was 27-0 and with LSU struggling to generate even modest offensive yardage, the lead ballooned to the 48-0 final.

After the game, Coach Leon praised his team for once again silencing the doubters and overcoming the odds.

•••

Question One - James McDavid (OU Daily): "Perhaps the strongest team win by your unit this season, Coach Leon. What do you think inspired such a dominant performance by your unit?"

Armando Leon: "We just focused all week on silencing the noise and playing our game. I think during the last few weeks, we gassed ourselves up a bit. Thought we were going to march unopposed to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game, then again for the National Championship. These are the kind of things you need to happen, though, to really galvanize a team. We survived the lull, and as you can see after tonight, we're better for it."

Question Two - Sean Graham (Reveille): "Your defense had looked a step slow last week against Auburn as they consistently hit big plays to stay in the game. What changed tonight? Was it simply the atmosphere, adjustments by the coaching staff, or both?"

Armando Leon: "The atmosphere definitely helped, you never want to let the seniors down and lose on Senior Night. But, we also took advantage of their weaknesses. They're down two starting linemen, their center and right tackle, so we simply overloaded that side and dared them to stop us. Once the dam broke, they tried sliding guys over and we simply flipped the formation. It's hard to give up big passing plays when the QB loses more yards via sacks than he throws for."

Question Three - Meg Semental (SEC Network): "Coach, running simultaneously to your game was the Iron Bowl between Auburn and Alabama. The winner of that game would determine who you face in two week's time. Is that something you kept an eye on?"

Armando Leon: "Absolutely not, Meg. We tried our best to limit the guys' exposure to the game running concurrent to ours, we didn't want any distractions. I was told at the half Auburn had a big 31-10 lead, but we didn't know until the end that they pulled off the victory. We didn't need to know that we were going to face Georgia in the SEC Championship Game until the game was over. We took care of business tonight, and now the preparation for Georgia begins."

•••

Coach Leon may not have been watching, but I had the split-screen working overtime to watch both our boys dominate the paper Tigers, and Alabama get trounced in the first half, to come storming back in the second. Ultimately, it proved too little, too late and like Coach Leon said, Georgia is next on the chopping block.

This was a big win for reasons outside the standings. We didn't need this win, we were already going to the SEC Championship Game and the playoffs regardless. It was a big win for morale. Nickey was struggling, Thorne was out, and the defense hadn't been as dominant in recent weeks.

Now, suddenly all that ails us is fixed—although Nickey still had a meh game, in my humble opinion—and we're not going into the SEC Championship Game searching for answers.

We're going in looking to keep the punches rolling.

Chapter Forty-Five: Double Trouble

It had been over a year since I’d received the last letter lauding me for the ‘competitive fire’ that was similar to my long lost father, and the suspicion that the man in Houston was the source of the letters had never fully left me, even with a year of silence to contradict it.

‘He’s not just a man, he’s my brother,’ I quietly reminded myself as I walked into my office. It was the only logical solution. There aren’t many other ways to differentiate how he said ‘our father’ back in Houston.

The only problem was, there had been no communication since. Despite leaving him my contact info, not only had there been no more letters, but there had been nothing at all.

I’d always wanted a sibling, at least, when I was younger and my parents were still together. After Mom fled Las Cruces, the thought had never crossed my mind again. We’d been too busy surviving and hiding for me to even think about the strains a younger sibling would cause.

But now, I had one. A living, breathing extension of Arturo. Yet, he was even more of a mystery than Arturo himself, which was a tall feat indeed.

The shrill cry of the desk phone sliced through the inner monologue about my long lost brother, ushering me back to the present moment. I let it ring three times before deciding against letting it reach voicemail, picking up the receiver just before it ended the final ring.

“Hello, this is Armando Leon.”

“Good morning, Coach Leon. This is Michael Specter, senior investigator with the NCAA enforcement staff. Congratulations on the shutout victory over the weekend.”

My instincts nearly kicked in and I had to catch myself mid breath to keep from saying ‘thank you.’ This man was neither a fan, nor a supporter of the Oklahoma Sooners. In fact, he was the complete opposite. The sole purpose of his phone call was to further muddy the waters, to try and diminish the exact thing he had just congratulated me for.

“What can I do for you, investigator?”

“Alright, I get it. We’ll skip the pleasantries. This call is to inform you that we’re beginning to wrap up our investigation into improper contact by yourself and potentially other members of your entourage-“

“Entourage?” I scoffed as I felt my face flush with heat, “Is that what you’re getting at now?”

“I understand, being accused of circumventing the rules is frustrating, Mr. Leon. But, please, try and keep your emotions in check. I would hate for Mr. Denny to have to step in and mediate the situation.”

The message sounded understanding, the tone was not.

“Now, if you’ll let me finish. We’re beginning to wrap up the investigation, meaning we will need to have an interview with yourself to present the information we have found and give you the opportunity to explain the context of some…” the pause seemed less about finding the correct word, and more about trying to elicit another eruption out of me. Surely, he would be documenting my reaction well before the interview.

“Questionable decisions,” Specter finished with a smirk that could be heard, even if it wasn’t seen.

“When do I have the displeasure of putting a face to the name, Mr. Specter?”

“Monday, December 15th. The rest of the team and I will meet you at the Barry Switzer Center at 8 A.M sharp to begin the preliminary interviews.”

“You’re going to conduct this dog-and-pony show the day after the SEC Championship Game?”

“Two days after, to be exact, Mr. Leon.”

Mr. Specter waited a beat for a retort and when none came, he promptly ended the conversation on his own terms.

“I do hope you get some rest on the flight back from Atlanta, Armando. It would likely be an all-day event. Take care.”

The phone line clicked on his end, and just like that, the confrontation was over. It wasn’t a request, but a demand. They had finished scouring my past and were ready to confront me with the sordid details they’d found.

But, that was the thing. There weren’t any grimy details from the past to dig up. There were just innocent instances, taken out of context. Harvey wasn’t being malicious with Manu Hasty, it was an off-hand comment to his client. I wasn’t going to Ms. Skaggs’ house in Temecula with the interest of prying Damian away from Oregon State. He was my recruit, one of my first. I made him a promise when I signed him, vouched for him to his PO, and now I was checking on the person who mattered most to him—his mother. Because, that’s who I am.

But those details didn’t matter to the NCAA. There was no grey area, just black and white. And unfortunately, as the University’s lawyers had informed me after the latest leak, we were sitting squarely on the black at the moment.

"At this stage, they don't have sufficient evidence to support a suspension or a Level I violation finding. What we're likely looking at is a Level II finding,” Donna Zane, the University Counsel assigned to oversee our defense in the investigation admitted after the latest report came out. “Potentially a fine for you personally and a recruiting restriction for the program. That's manageable.”

“Unless new information surfaces,” she had added with measured intent.

“So, we just have to sit here and let them slander me, and the work we’ve done here?”

Donna had shrugged her shoulders in defeat, signaling that yes, that was exactly what we were supposed to do.

The line ringing once again sliced through my inner thoughts as I realized, I’d never hung the receiver back up. I quickly pushed the answer button on the keypad and was promptly greeted by Roger Denny’s booming voice.

“Armando. Did you talk to Mr. Specter already this morning?”

“Yes sir, 8 A.M. sharp on the 15th. I was just about to call you to make sure he’d informed the university.”

“I’ve heard about this guy, Armando. He’s by the book, to a fault. One of those who think they’re the last line of defense against the ‘NIL Era’ and how things used to be done. Which is to say, he’s used to conducting witch hunts, Armando. You feel me?”

“I’m picking it up, Rog. I was nothing but cordial with the guy, I swear. He didn’t get the Heupel treatment, scout’s honor.”

“Don’t you go pulling that scout’s honor shit, Armando. Last time you did that, your agent got us in hot water. Just make sure if there is anything, and I mean ANYTHING, else they could have, we’re ahead of it. You got it?”

“Nothing to be ahead of Rog. No skeletons in this closet.”

And I firmly believed that. Until, Sophia walked in with the mail from the weekend, gently placing it on the corner of my desk. Out of the way enough to not be disruptive, but close enough that it would be seen.

And there it was, sticking halfway out from the middle of the pile.

White envelope with white card stock. I didn’t need to pull it out to know what was scrawled across the header of the envelope.

Denny was still on the phone, rambling on about guys like Specter, when curiosity got the better of me and I fished the letter out from between the rest of the mail.

Just as I’d suspected, “Armando Leon-Orozco” was emblazoned across the front in bright red ink.

“Rog, I get it. Specter’s a pro and we got to be ready. But, I also got to start prepping for Georgia, alright?”

“I swear to God, Armando, if they try and break some news story the day before the SEC Championship Game, I’m going to lose it.”

“Nothing we can do about it now, Rog. We good?”

“Alright, I’ll let you back to it. I’m going to call Donna and let her know, just be prepared. You know she’s going to want to have a game plan meeting about it. Don’t blow her off this time?”

“Me?” I said with a fake scoff, “I would never.”

I turned the letter over in my hand again, looking for any kind of tell, like I was a forensic investigator. A few moments later, I shook my head in disbelief.

‘Been watching too many crime shows with Jessica, over here acting like I’m an investigator now,’ I chuckled under my breath, grabbing the letter opener to see what vague threat the writer, most likely my brother, had finally penned after a year of silence.

“Armando,

It’s time to talk. Saturday, December 14th. After the SEC Championship Game.

St. Regis. The room will be under Arturo’s name.

Don’t leave me waiting.”

Suddenly Donna Zane’s voice came floating through my consciousness:

“Unless something else comes out.”

“Nonsense,” I said out loud, startling myself with the sudden noise and rapping my knee against the desk.

“Nonsense,” I reaffirmed, straightening up in my chair. “Nothing suspicious about reuniting with my long lost brother. Surely, the NCAA can’t fine me for that.”

I picked up the can of Ghost on my desk, the condensation ring leaving a perfect circle in its place, and downed the contents in two gulps before sidearming it into the trash can.

“Nonsense,” I whispered to myself as I pried open my MacBook, bringing the two flat-screens on my desk and the projector on the wall awake at the same time.

Within seconds, highlights of our game against Georgia earlier this season began playing.

“The only thing that’s going to happen in Atlanta is us taking a belt to Georgia,” I proclaimed out loud, cracking another energy drink in the process.

I took a long pull from the can as I watched Georgia receiver Tyler Hoppes haul in what would turn into a 90-yard touchdown late in the 49-17 Oklahoma win.

“Now that? That’s nonsense,” I laughed, pulling my legal pad close to begin writing down notes for the film session.

2030 SEC Championship Game Preview - #8 Georgia (10-2) @ #1 Oklahoma (12-0)
Boone Tillman // Sooner BornPublished: December 13th, 2030

It's hard to believe that two years ago the Oklahoma Sooners had only been in a singular SEC Championship Game, one that we lost to the loathsome Texas Longhorns before they hoisted the 2026 National Championship.

Now, we're preparing for our second straight SEC Championship, with our own National Championship trophy in the rearview mirror. The only thing standing between us and repeating as SEC Champions is the last team who won back-to-back Championships, the Georgia Bulldogs who accomplished the feat last in 2024-2025.

Let's take a quick gander at how we stack up against the Bulldogs in this rematch, before diving right into another "Schooner Scoop."

Schooner Scoop

BT: "Coach, how tough is it playing a team twice in one season, especially one as good as the Georgia Bulldogs who now have the extra motivation to try and avenge their 49-17 loss earlier this season?"

AL: "It's always tough, because you've got to get in your bag a bit, Boone. You can't just run out the vanilla concepts you used last time, they've spent two weeks preparing for them. That's what makes the difference in these championship rematches, who can get creative and get the upper hand early. That'll determine who wins this rematch."

BT: "Brad Thorne was the Heisman front-runner for much of the season, but with his recent injury, Georgia's Avery Bigsby has overtaken him as the odds-on favorite to hoist the trophy in New York. Last time you played the Bulldogs, your defense held Bigsby to just four catches, for 69 yards. Since then, he's gone on an absolute tear. At least five receptions, 75 or more yards, and a touchdown, including a 192-yard performance in the Bulldogs 70-0 thrashing over the Yellow Jackets. What does your defense have to do to keep him from having a 'Heisman moment" against you?"

AL: "Bigsby is a handful, period. He's got a unique blend of size and speed and really challenges your technique to make sure you don't commit PI while covering him. But, I've said it before and I'll say it again: we've got the best secondary in the nation, bar none. I fully expect Richard to attach himself to Bigsby's hip tomorrow night and make him earn that Heisman."

BT: "Last time, you said the little things would determine the game. Then you went out there and put such a hurting on the Bulldogs that PETA got some phone calls. But now, you're both coming off huge shutout victories. Is it the same margin of inches that'll determine this game, or are you looking at something completely different?"

AL: "I really think it'll be whoever gets the upper hand first, Boone. Both offenses are extremely talented, but we have the superior defense. If we can get an early lead, I have faith we can keep it. Whoever takes the first two-score lead ends up with the momentum to close it out, I think."

I don't know what more buildup you need folks. It's 8th-ranked Georgia against 1st-ranked Oklahoma in the SEC Championship Game, in a rematch of the regular season.

If I need to add any more sugar to that, you just ain't a fan.

I think Coach Leon is right, getting the momentum and then keeping it will be a big factor. I forgot to ask Coach Leon, but with Brad Thorne out and Dillon Slye returning, expect to see a lot of the shifty former receiver in this contest.

Georgia 24, Oklahoma 35.
