Greatest recruiting week ever? Hurricanes nab five commitments to drown out recruiting losses to Oklahoma and Georgia
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider
It was quite the week for the University of Miami, highlighted by their win over No. 10 Pittsburgh but the Hurricanes were even more successful on the recruiting trail, earning commitments from six players, led by the second ranked player in the country in Bobby Haslam.
Haslam was joined by five-star running back Javier Torrez, four-star center Terrence Branham, four-star linebacker Carl Rabe and four-star defensive tackle Javonte Dye who all committed to the Hurricanes throughout the week and the weekend, with Haslam's commitment coming in Sunday morning.
Miami beat out Georgia for the top ranked player in the state, who is playing his senior season at IMG Academy. Georgia did manage to keep the second ranked player in the state, Ronald Abiamiri, home with him committing to Georgia over Miami and Nebraska. Haslam is teammates with Kalon Devey, the five-star defensive end that Miami was hoping to get on campus later this year but Devey committed to his hometown Sooners instead.
Haslam has good size at six-foot-one and 184 pounds with the ability to play multiple positions in the secondary having played safety in his earlier years. With Haslam's background as a safety, there isn't a ton of tape on him playing man-to-man coverage and that's something that IMG hasn't asked him to do a whole lot of this year, sometimes deploying him in the slot as more of a robber type so that would be one area to keep an eye on in his development as the Hurricanes play a lot of man coverage in Skylor Magee's defense. The Hurricanes would love to pair Haslam with a more pure cover corner in Alex Tercero, the number one ranked player in the country who is set to visit Miami in a few weeks.
While there might be some concern on how Haslam fits into Miami's scheme, Torrez is the perfect running back for Chris Weinke's offense or really any modern offense that asks for versatility in its running backs. He lines up everywhere for Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach, Fl.) from running back to the slot to even some wildcat quarterback where he's liable to take a simple dive play to the house. Clemson and Florida State were the other contenders in his recruitment.
The Hurricanes have recruited at a high level at the position for some time, both in high school and the transfer portal, but this might be their strongest running back class yet with Torrez and Seth Doss with perhaps another five-star on the way in Kyree Smalls who is the top ranked running back in the country. Smalls, who is from Arizona, has visits scheduled to UCLA and Oregon but if the Hurricanes are able to convince him to leave the West Coast, they could land one of the greatest recruiting classes at the position of all time.

Vero Beach standout Tyler Boozer emerging as Miami's top target at quarterback
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider
It wasn't clear if Miami was going to take a quarterback this cycle with them signing three quarterbacks in 2027 and adding Jeff Beavers last cycle, who they think is a future superstar. It turns out they will go after at least one quarterback, recently offering Vero Beach High School's Tyler Boozer.
Boozer is an intriguing prospect, starting several games at St. Thomas Aquinas as a sophomore before splitting time with Beavers who eventually became the full-time starter by season's end. He spent his junior year at The Benjamin School where he once again was part of a rotation at quarterback and played some receiver, transferring to Vero Beach this past spring where his recruitment has really started to seen an uptick.
Boozer got a boost over the summer in his recruiting ranking following an impressive showing on the 7-on-7 circuit as the quarterback for Miami Immortals as well as several satellite camps but he has yet to rake in a long list of scholarship offers as many schools are waiting for his senior season to play out.
The Hurricanes appear to be ready to take a gamble on Boozer, who is an impressive athlete and so far this season with Vero Beach, he has refined some of the quirks in his game while at St. Thomas and The Benjamin School. It'll also be an interesting dynamic, if the Hurricanes do land Boozer, to reunite him with Beavers.

Bernie Flowers to start for No. 1 Miami in ranked matchup against Fighting Irish
Adam Fenton, Yahoo Sports Senior CFB Writer
Bernie Flowers will officially get the Week 6 start for No. 1 Miami as they are in South Bend to take on No. 11 Notre Dame.
Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal revealed on Saturday morning on the Joe Rose Show that the redshirt freshman would make his first career start, replacing the injured Keke Hagg who pulled his groin in Miami's 30-6 win over Pittsburgh last week.
Immediately after the game, Cristobal said he was optimistic that Hagg would not be sidelined very long with the junior leaving the game in the third quarter after taking a hit on a completed pass. Flowers would throw an interception on his first drive but would finish the day 5-of-11 for 57 yards and a touchdown. Miami's practices are closed to the public so its unclear if Hagg was an active participant this week or when the decision was made to sideline Hagg.
Flowers played in three games last season, most notable coming in against Tennessee in the Canes loss to the Vols in the CFP Semifinals and helped mount a potential comeback for the Hurricanes before leaving the game with an injury. He's thrown seven touchdowns to two interceptions, averaging an impressive 37 yards per game on the ground in the games he did appear in despite only playing a half at most.
Redshirt senior Judd Anderson will be the backup.
