Steelers Introduce Brian Daboll As New Offensive Coordinator

Pittsburgh, PA. - The Pittsburgh Steelers announced today that Brian Daboll has been named the team’s new offensive coordinator.
Daboll, 50, most recently served as head coach of the New York Giants from 2022–2025. While his tenure in New York concluded after back-to-back losing seasons, Daboll is widely respected across the league for his offensive creativity and ability to develop quarterbacks.
Before joining the Giants, Daboll spent four seasons as offensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills, where he played a pivotal role in the development of Josh Allen into one of the NFL’s premier quarterbacks. Daboll’s offenses in Buffalo consistently ranked among the league’s most explosive, blending an aggressive passing game with a modern spread approach.
General Manager Omar Khan praised the hire:
“Brian is a proven offensive mind who has shown the ability to maximize talent and elevate quarterback play. With the transition we’re entering at the quarterback position, we believe his experience and leadership are exactly what our team needs.”
The Steelers enter the 2026 offseason facing significant changes following the retirements of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and defensive captain Cameron Heyward. Daboll’s arrival signals a new direction for Pittsburgh’s offense, with the organization expected to invest in a young quarterback through the draft or other avenues.
Head coach Mike Tomlin added:
“Brian has seen what it takes to build and sustain a modern NFL offense. His work with Josh Allen in Buffalo speaks for itself, and we’re excited to see him bring that same energy, creativity, and teaching ability to Pittsburgh.”
The Steelers will formally introduce Daboll in a press conference later this week at Acrisure Stadium.

Steelers Announce Re-Signings Of Veteran Defenders - G Isaac Seumalo To Test FA

Pittsburgh, PA. - The Pittsburgh Steelers moved quickly to keep key pieces of their defense intact, announcing multi-year deals with linebacker Cole Holcomb and safety Juan Thornhill just days before the official start of free agency. Both veterans will remain in Pittsburgh for the 2026 season and beyond.
Holcomb is coming off a breakout campaign in his second year as the off-ball linebacker in Pittsburgh’s aggressive 3-4 front. He finished with 76 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks, emerging as one of the defense’s most disruptive second-level playmakers. Thornhill, meanwhile, proved to be a steady hand in the secondary, ranking third on the team in tackles while stepping into the role vacated by Minkah Fitzpatrick. His veteran presence and ability to cover multiple roles drew high marks from the staff.
Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin praised Thornhill’s impact but stopped short of guaranteeing him the starting job in 2026:
“Juan brought a lot of stability and versatility to the back end. Whether he’s starting or rotating, he’s a valuable piece of what we do.”
Not all negotiations ended as smoothly. Guard Isaac Seumalo and the Steelers were unable to reach an agreement before the market opened. Seumalo, who anchored the interior of Pittsburgh’s offensive line the past two years, confirmed he will test free agency.
“Pittsburgh is a place I loved to play for, but the money has to make sense too,” Seumalo said in a statement. “The door isn’t closed, but I wanted to weigh my options evenly.”
With the recent retirements of Cameron Heyward and Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh enters the offseason with significant financial flexibility — potentially upwards of $100 million in cap space. The moves signal the Steelers’ intent to lock down proven veterans while keeping the door open for major roster reshaping in free agency and the draft.

Re-signed Calvin Austin - 2 Years // $12M (In-Season)
Re-signed FS Juan Thornhill - 2 Years // $10M

Where Do Steelers Find Their Next QB?
Pittsburgh, PA. - It’s been four years since Ben Roethlisberger retired, and in that span the Pittsburgh Steelers have struggled to find stability under center. The carousel has included Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, and a trio of veteran “bridge” options — Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and most recently Aaron Rodgers. None provided long-term answers, and Rodgers’ retirement this offseason puts the organization back at square one.
“They have to find someone to re-anchor that position,” one AFC executive told The Athletic. “They can’t keep pushing the ball down the line with a journeyman QB.”
The challenge, of course, is supply. The 2026 free-agent quarterback market is bleak, with names like Russell Wilson, Daniel Jones, and Zach Wilson topping the available list. None inspire confidence as true franchise passers.
The draft isn’t much kinder to Pittsburgh. Sitting at 23rd overall, the Steelers are again outside striking distance for this year’s top signal callers: Garrett Nussmeier (LSU), Cade Klubnik (Clemson), and Drew Allar (Penn State). With Arch Manning and LaNorris Sellers both returning to school, this year’s class is already thin at the top. Scouts expect all three to be gone inside the top 10–12 picks.
That leaves Pittsburgh with hard questions: Do they love one of the remaining prospects enough to mortgage their future and trade up? Or do they scour the league for a distressed asset, like Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis or Bryce Young in Carolina — both of whom may be running out of chances with their current teams? The Steelers could also gamble on raw talents like Joe Milton III or Jalen Milroe, hoping a change of scenery sparks growth.
“If I need a quarterback for the future — this is a bad time,” another league executive said. “Next year’s class has way more top-end talent. Potentially five guys with real starter upside, led by Arch.”
The calculus is tricky. Do the Steelers roll the dice now, pairing a young passer with a roster that’s otherwise built to compete? Or do they punt until 2027, gambling that next year’s deeper class aligns with their draft position — even if that means salvaging the rookie contract years of a Richardson, Young, or Milroe?
Quarterback aside, sources insist Pittsburgh is gearing up for an aggressive offseason. With nearly $100 million in projected cap space after the retirements of Rodgers and Cameron Heyward, the Steelers are among the league’s most financially flexible teams.
Topping their shopping list is former Patriots and Texans tackle Trent Brown, a veteran who would immediately solidify the offensive line. On defense, versatile playmakers like Isaiah Simmons, Jaylen Watson, and linebacker Damone Clark have been identified as potential targets to bolster depth and athleticism.
One insider summarized the roster outlook:
“Pittsburgh doesn’t have a ton of pressing needs outside of QB, in all honesty. They’re two-deep at running back, have three serviceable receivers, and if they bring back Isaac Seumalo the offensive line is solid. The secondary is the only other major point that needs addressing, but the free agent market is thin — mostly stop-gap vets rather than instant playmakers.”
For the Steelers, 2026 shapes up as a pivotal offseason. Their defense remains among the NFL’s most feared, and their offensive skill talent is playoff-caliber. But without a long-term quarterback plan, the ceiling remains capped.
Whether Pittsburgh chooses to swing big in the draft, buy low on a reclamation project, or tread water until the 2027 class, one thing is certain: the franchise can’t afford another spin on the quarterback carousel.

Steelers Bolster Offensive Line With Trent Brown And Return Of Seumalo

Pittsburgh, PA. - The Pittsburgh Steelers wasted no time reshaping their offensive front as free agency opened, landing one of the market’s biggest names. Within hours of the new league year beginning, Pittsburgh agreed to a two-year, $35 million deal with veteran offensive tackle Trent Brown. Later that afternoon, the team also confirmed the return of guard Isaac Seumalo on a one-year, $16 million contract.
General manager Omar Khan made clear that offensive line stability was a priority this offseason.
“Improving the protection up front was a key goal of ours,” Khan said. “Bringing Isaac back was important for continuity, but we also wanted to strengthen the unit beyond that. Trent gives us a proven veteran presence at tackle and a physical edge in both the run and pass game.”
The addition of Brown gives the Steelers a new look on the outside. At 6-foot-8 and 370 pounds, he’s one of the league’s most imposing linemen and has experience at both tackle spots. Pairing Brown with 2025 first-rounder Troy Fautanu provides Pittsburgh with a set of bookends built to keep their next quarterback upright — whoever that may be.
The move also raises questions about the future of Broderick Jones, Pittsburgh’s 2023 first-round selection. The Steelers exercised his fifth-year option earlier this offseason, seemingly committing to him as their left tackle of the future. But after three years marked by inconsistency and injuries, Jones may now find himself in a swing role — or on the trade block. League insiders believe Pittsburgh will gauge his market value over the coming weeks.
