Diamondbacks lock up several core players for the forseeable future

The Arizona Diamondbacks didn't waste any time when it came to being able to lock up and sign potential free agents this off season and players who would be eligible for arbitration. Arizona re-signed 7 players yesterday. That list of players is below as well as their new contract that will begin in 2030.

Re-signed SP Paul Skenes to a 5 year/$239.6M contract, avoiding arbitration.
Since coming over from Pittsburgh, Skenes has started in four games with a 1-0 record in 30.0 innings with an ERA of 2.10 and 35 strikeouts.

Re-signed SS Geraldo Perdomo to a 5 year/$74.8M contract.
Perdomo has bounced back this season following the last two seasons including the 2027 season where he missed the first 3 months of the season due to injury. He's is fifth on the team with 16 home runs and second in hits with 119.

Re-signed 3B Nolan Arenado to a 1 year/$9.0M contract.
Since coming over from the Cardinals in 2026, Arenado has been a stable horse at third base. At age 37 he is on his way to play in over 100 games for the ninth straight season. He expressed his desire to return for one more season in 2030.

Re-signed SP Blake Walston to a 5 year/$45.8M contract.
Walston was a first-round pick in 2019 and was called up to the majors in the 2024 and 2026 season. When he was called up last season he started 14 games and finished with a 6-3 record. Beginning the season as a long reliever, Walston was promoted into the starting rotation, replacing Ryne Nelson and has started 12 games this season, with a 6-5 record.

Re-signed SS Jordan Lawler to a 3 year/$29.8M contract, avoiding arbitration.
In 2027 Jordan Lawler was the opening day shortstop, filling in for Geraldo Perdomo, who would miss the first three months of the season due to injury. Lawler remained on the roster and played in 95 games that year, hitting .274 with nine home runs and 42 runs batted in along with 43 stolen bases. This year Lawler has been up and down between the main roster and triple a, but his ability to play multiple positions in the infield is what the Diamondbacks wanted to keep on hand.

Re-signed CF Jorge Barrosa to a 3 year/$22.1M contract, avoiding arbitration.
Barrosa has spent his entire six year career with the D-Backs and like Lawler, his ability to play multiple spots in the outfield is what makes his value to the team so big. He stepped in when Steven Kwan went down with an injury earlier in the season.

Re-signed RP Anthony Bender to a 3 year/$23.6M contract.
Arizona signed Bender as a free agent this past off season to a one-year deal and he has been such a vital part of the bullpen, they decided to lock him up. He's appeared in 34 games this season and has pitched in 35.1 innings with 27 strikeouts.
