2030 BOISE STATE MEDIA GUIDE

THE SCHEDULE

Week 1 at Memphis
Week 2 vs #15 TCU
Week 3 at #13 Auburn
Week 4 vs FIU
Week 5 "Bye"
Week 6 vs Stanford "Pac-12 Opener"
Week 7 "Bye"

Week 9 @ Colorado
Week 10 vs #12 Oregon
Week 11 vs Washington State
Week 12 vs Utah "Senior Night"
Week 13 @ Oregon State
Week 14 @ Washington "Rivalry Week vs Coach D"

BSU and TCU will rematch.. Last season the Horn Frogs beat BSU in Forth Worth handing the Broncos their only loss of the season. BSU gains a tough road matchup @ #19 Arizona State in Week 8 but at least they play Oregon at home this season in back to back years as the schedules go mixed with the departure of San Diego State and BYU.

THE STAFF

Head Coach Matt Miller returns for his 4th year at the helm sporting a new 5 year deal after guiding the Broncos to 3 straight Pac-12 titles and 2 National titles. Miller is 68-7 lifetime at Boise State (25-4 as OC and 43-3 as HC)

Offensive Coordinator Marcus Arroyo returns for his 3rd season.. The former Oregon Duck/Arizona State OC and UNLV HC, Arroyo has helped transform the Broncos offense into the #1 Offense in the nation the past 2 seasons including last year when the team averaged over 60 PPG.

Defensive Coordinator Erik Chinander returns for his 7th season.. The former Nebraska DC has been amazing since coming to Boise State in 2023 and well the Defense has never ranked in the Top-10 nationally the Broncos Defensive success is a huge reason why the Offense is so succesfull

THE ROSTER (Overall)

QB
#9 RS JR Tua Draft (89)
#10 RS SR D'Andre Webb (86)
#7 RS FR Tyrone Waddle (76)
#5 RS FR Rashard Rattay (75)

Draft is coming off a record setting season throwing for 6825 yds with 70 TD and 10 INT after coming from Ohio State as a Transfer. Can he repeat that performance and will he stay for a 3rd year and try and beat Kellen Moore's All-time passing record?

Webb joins the team this season via the portal having played the past 2 seasons at Iowa State before starting his career at Delaware. In 2027 he threw for 2900 yds with 19 TD and 11 IN for the Blue Hens, before throwing for over 3000 yds in each of his 2 season with the the Cyclones. For his career he has 9,860 yds with 64 TD's and 30 INT's. He also has 699 yds rushing with 14 TD's.

Waddle is a former 3* recruit who redshirt last season. Waddle had a great spring game and appears to have been out Rattay for the #3 job. Rattay was on the roster at James Madison last year but redshirted

RB/FB
#26 RS FR Jason Whitted (85)
#20 RS FR Jermarcus Boykins (84)
#21 RS FR Randall Amerson (84)
#33 FR Brian Crum (81)
#23 RS FR Leati Faalele (78)
#28 (R) FR Jabari Neighbors (78)

#29 RS SO Tyler Fry (78)
#44 RS SO Tobias Teague (74)

Whitted and Amerson both had great spring games and appear ready to push True Freshman Brian Crum for carries as RB1.. Boykins will return to his 3rd down role and continue to help as a WR and return specialist after racking up over 1000 All-purpose yards last season.

With Amerson and Faalele both as depth pieces behind Crum and Whitted as well as Boykins, 4* Recruit Jabari Neighbors will redshirt this season well Redshirt Sophomore Tyler Fry moves from RB to FB.. Fry has 40 career carries for 188 yds and 6 TD's. with he bulk of those coming last season. Teague is a converted TE who did see action last year at FB for the Broncos splitting time with Chris Boswell who has since graduated.

WR
#13 RS SO Keshaun Buckner (94)
#1 RS SR Keilan Bettis (92)
#84 RS SR Tyler Crook (92)
#88 RS SO Conner Friesz (90)
#8 RS SR Dennis Moses (88)
#81 RS JR Evan Qualls (88)
#10 RS SR Arthur Wing (85)
#2 RS SO Kyle Harmon (78)
#14 (R) FR Frank Ogbonna (73)

Bettis returns after back to back Biletnikoff Award winning seasons as well as the Camp/Maxwell and Heisman last season, however this year he plays a new role as the team's true #1.. Already a multiple record holder for Boise State and the Pac-12 as well as Nationally, Bettis doesn't really have much left to prove other then going out as maybe the greatest WR ever to have played at the college level.

BSU got a boost in replacing Fogg and Riggins as Transfer Tyler Crook reverses his decision and signs late (originally it said he signed with USC) The Washington Husky transfer follows Rocky Riggins to "The Blue" Crook has just 13 lifetime receptions and 147 yds with 1 TD he past 3 years in Seattle.

Buckner appears ready to be the next great WR recording 21 rec for 318 yds and 4 TD last season late in the year. BSU typically starts 3 WR's so the rest of the guy's are depth pieces with Friesz and Qualls most likely seeing he bulk of the #4/#5 sets as they prepare for starting roles next year, next to Buckner.

TE
#82 RS SO Josh Flaherty (95)
#89 RS JR Roy Carney (81)
#83 FR Larry Ika (74)
#86 (R) FR Max Davis (69)
#80 (R) FR TJ Lanier (61)

Flaherty is a transfer from Oregon who recorded 43 rec for 410 yds and 4 TD last season for the Ducks. With the TE position playing a huge role in the Offense look for Flaherty to push 1000 yds this season and double digit TD's. Carney caught 6 balls for 67 yds last year as the #3. He will see plenty of action as BSU runs multiple sets with 2 TE's. 4* Recruit Larry Ika beat out his classmates for the chance to be active and the #3 well Davis another 4* and Lanier (3*) both will redshirt.

0-LINE

#76 RS JR Vince Westbrook (88)
#70 RS FR Marvin Bulaga (81)
#69 RS SR Shaydon Luck (78)

#78 RS SR Tiquan Coxie (88)
#75 RS SO Quinn Winston (84)
#74 RS JR Brock Devoe (81)

#56 RS SR Branden Chancey (93)
#52 RS SR Keegan Gofen (81)
#54 RS FR Moses Eagles (80)
#68 (R) FR Reggie Uzomah (78)

#51 RS JR Tyler Koppen (93)
#59 RS FR Kevin Goodley (80)
#62 RS FR Dashawn Moffett (79)

#73 RS FR Johnathan Daniels (87)
#67 RS SR Jamie Ahlers (85)
#71 (R) FR David Battles (76)

Wesbrook, Coxie, Chancey, Koppen and Ahlers all have experience starting, well Daniels had a huge spring and will push for the RT job The line saw plenty of injuries last season as Coxie and Chancey both struggle to stay on the field so Eagles and Winston both should be see plenty of action as the main backups.

D-LINE
#94 RS SR Jason Sweet (85)
#90 RS SR Matthias Pack (79)
#99 RS SO Rashawn Dimke (71)

#93 RS SR Vince Devries (85)
#77 RS JR Ed Laborn (83)
#96 RS JR Jimmy Komar (76)

#98 RS SR Matt Littlejohn (87)
#95 RS SO Callum Johnson (86)
#97 RS JR Manu Angel (78)
#73 RS FR George Bradford (71)
#92 RS FR Buck Boyett (70)

Littlejohn and Sweet return as starters and will be joined by Devries who transfers in from Arizona State where he appeared in 34 games the past 4 years, coming off his best season with 38 Tackles including 11 TFL. Johnson and Labron are the key backups and Johnson will see the field when BSU uses a 4 man front.

LB
RS SR TJ Bryant (88)
RS SO R. Capps (80)

RS JR Lorenzo Tiffin (88)
RS SO Elias Incognito (88)

RS SR Joseph Keenoy (89)
RS SO Reshard Braham (78)

Keenoy returns for his 3rd season as a starter after talking to several teams trying to get him to join the portal. Bryant has been a key backup the past 3 years playing in 43 games recording 75 Tackles with 18 TFL and 8.5 sacks including 6 sacks last year. Incognito was a transfer from Utah last season and led the team in sacks with 11.5 well also recording 15 TFL on 53 Tackles.

**BSU has been playing a 4-2-5 Defense the past 5 years but will mix in some 3-4 this season as Tiffin looks to join the starting lineup at times well Braham and Capps are the future.

CB/FS/SS
#19 SR Larry Halapio (85)
#1 RS JR Kyrie Darnold (81)
#5 RS FR Tremaine Simms (73)
#6 RS FR Mike Dishman (70)
#25 (R) FR Marquise Darnold (68)
#15 (R) FR Montrell Cheatham (66)

#10 RS SR Joey Wayne (82)
#0 RS JR Tremaine Crick (80)
#7 RS JR Evan Cookus (77)

#11 RS SR Isaiah Meadows (84)
#24 RS JR Deontae Clayborn (83)
#16 RS SO Nate Kohou (77)

All 5 starters and the Top-3 reserves are graduated from last season. Wayne a Texas Tech transfer appeared in 5 games before getting hurt.. He had 66 tackles for TTU in 2028. Meadows recorded 52 tackles in 2028 but regressed last year recording 26 tackles with Clayborn jumping him on the depth chart recording 33 tackles

Halapio takes over as CB1.. Halapio started his career playing 2 seasons at James Madison before playing at Texas Tech last year.. He has 154 career tackles but just 4 career INT's. Darnold a former 4* was buried on the depth chart last year but now gets a chance to start. Crick and Cookus are both listed as backup FS but will likely also fill the roles as #3/#4 CB's well Clayborn will be the main backup at Safety and play when BSU runs 5 DB's.

Georgia and Florida in the ACC, Southern Miss and Arkansas State in the SEC :hmm:

Have a feeling life is going to come at Ark State and Southern Miss quick.

Clemson should have an easy enough time with the ACC North, but the South is brutal. Florida, FSU, Georgia, and Miami :rip:
Yeah its a change for sure.. Georgia and Florida have dominated the SEC so far in my Dynasty, so I am curious to see if Alabama/Auburn/LSU can maybe start a comeback. Tennessee has been pretty good so I have a feeling they are going to dominate their division but we will see.. Arkansas State and Southern Miss are actually higher rated then Kentucky and Miss State and are pretty much equal to Tulane who the past 3 years has managed to go 6-6 most years and make a bowl game. I felt like Southern Miss deserves a shot at the big boys so we will see what happens. My plan is to run these for 5 seasons till 2035 then switch things up.. . The schools I moved down to G5 like Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, USF, UCF are all like mid 60's Overall.

With Memphis, Southern Miss, Arkansas State moving up , that leaves Army (77) Toledo (77) UConn (74) BYU (74) as the highest rated G5 programs.

I don't have the link to the video, if Caesar pops in and sees this he might link it. But a guy did some research and played with the XP sliders a bit so that way a lot of the lower tier programs woudn't get tanked into the 60s and lower in future seasons. I know Caesar implemented it, soap did, I did, not sure who else, but its definitely helped raise the overalls of some of the lower ranked schools. It also suggested lowering transfers so that the CPU teams didn't lose all of their impact players each season.

Roster looks stacked though. Will be interesting to see if Crum can take the reigns as the true frosh, but you've got plenty of depth around him in case he falters.

Auburn and TCU early are some showcase games to see how you stack up, but outside of AZ State and Oregon the Pac-12 looks like yours for the taking

BRONCOS MAKE A STATEMENT IN WEEK 1 VICORY!!!
GAME RECAP

The Memphis Defense came to play in the 1st Quarter forcing 2 turnovers with a INT of Draft on the opening play to lead to a 33 yd FG to give the home team the early (3-0) lead but the Tigers would fail to capitalize on a Boise State fumble and quickly gave the ball back as JR QB Kyle Hawkins (72) throws the first of 2 INT’s in the half..

Boise State then dominated the rest of the half as the Broncos scored 63 unanswered points (yes 63 in the first half).

Draft bounces back from his earlier INT by connecting on a pair of screen pass’s to RB Jermarcus Boykins (12 yd and 24 yd) for the Broncos first 2 scores. Redshirt Freshman RB Jason Whitted scored his first career TD with a 2 yd score to close out the 1st Quarter as BSU led (21-3).

The Broncos opened up the 2nd Quarter with another INT by Hawkins leading to True Freshman Brian Crum scores his first career touchdown..

It would be a big half for the Crum as he scores 4 times well leading the team with 13 carries for 44 yds.. Despite Crum’s 4 scores, Tua Draft still managed to make plenty of big plays in the 2nd Quarter with scoring strikes to Keshaun Buckner (49 yds) and TE Josh Flaherty (30 yds).

The Oregon transfer was huge in the 1st half finishing the half with 6 rec for 130 yds.. Despite not scoring it was still another big day for WR Keilan Bettis who posted 107 yards on a team high 8 receptions as Draft finished the half 23/29 for 400 yds with the 4 TD and 1 INT.

For Memphis it was a 1st half they would like to soon forget about. The Tigers did manage to bookend the 63 points with a 42 yd FG to close out the half making it (63-6) but as a team Memphis managed just (5) 1st Downs with 87 yds of Total Offense finishing the half with -2 yds rushing.

As amazing as the BSU Offense was, the Defense played pretty dang good as the team sacks Hawkins 5 times including 2 sacks by Incogntio and recorded 2 INT’s (Keenroy and Darnold).

When you're leading (63-6) at the half it’s pretty hard to keep the team focused on anything other than setting records.. Since the arrival of Offensive Coordinator Marcus Arroyo, the Boise State Broncos have scored over 70 points 4 times so scoring 63 in the 1st half it was safe to say tonight would end with a historical night.

Freshman RB Brian Crum already had 4 touchdowns in the 1st half but that didn’t stop him from adding to his total on the opening drive of the 2nd half as he scores TD #5 with a 30 yard run to extend the lead to (70-6).

Memphis would make a change at QB as JR Shamir Worthy (68 Ovr) takes over for Hawkins.. However it took Worthy some time to warm up as Memphis failed to find the endzone in the 3rd Quarter.. Boise State however didn’t fail as Draft hits Bettis with a Jet Sweep pass for 3 yds to make it (77-6). For Draft his day was done as Bronco fans get a to see Iowa State transfer D’Andrew Webb for the first time.

It was a rough start for Webb as he throws an INT on his first pass attempt but Memphis fails to capitalize.. Webb wouldn't make the same mistake twice though as he closed out the 3rd Quarter scoring with a 7 yd TD pass to Flaherty to make it (84-6) going into the 4th.

Webb showed off his big arm on the Broncos opening drive in the 4th quarter as he connects on a 67 yd bomb to Keshaun Buckner. Then after the Tigers 3rd FG of the day, Webb gets credited with his 3rd TD of the day as he hits Bettis on another Jet Sweep pass that Bettis takes 59 yds to the house to exend the lead to (98-9) with 6 minutes still to play in the game.

Worthy would finally make a big play and put the Tigers in the endzone as he connects with David Hart on a 50 yd pass with 4:35 to play making it (98-16) but Boise State wasn’t done as the Tiger Defense get’s a healthy dose of Brian Crum who goes over 200 yds on the day but with 3 minutes to play it was backup RB Jermarcus Boykins showing he is more then just a receiver as he rumbles in from 3 yds out as Boise State makes it (105-16)

Worthy not giving up leads the Tigers on a 11 play drive ending with a 6 yd TD pass to Jimmy Lemons but they left 1:48 on the clock. Worthy finished the day 15/34 for 238 yds with 2 TD’s.

Miller could’ve just kneeled out the clock but that’s not his style as BSU continues to run the offense and with 38 seconds to play Webb and Bettis hookup for one final score (4 yds) as Boise State sets a new school record.
FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-112 MEMPHIS-26

KEY PLAYERS
For Bettis it was touchdown #3 as last year’s Heisman winner has his 15th game of 3 or more touchdowns in the game finishing with a team high 13 rec for 196 yds.

For Webb it was a huge coming out party.. The Senior transfer showed he is more than capable of leading the Broncos Offense as he finishes the game 12/15 for 234 yds with 4 TD and the 1 INT, combine that with Draft (480 yds 5 TD 1 INT) and the team finishes with 714 yds and 9 TD's through the air.

With 30 carries for 229 yds and 5 TD’s Brian Crum takes POG honors but that doesn’t mean BSU didn’t have other players deserving.

Backup RB/WR Jermarcus Boykins finished with 12 carries for 43 yds and 1 TD on the ground and also had 4 rec for 50 yds and 2 TD as well as 3 KR for 92 yds finishing the day with 185 All-Purpose yards and 3 scores.

Oregon Transfer Josh Flaherty is well on his way to a 1000 yd season as he finishes with 10 rec for 190 yds and 2 scores and RS SO Keshaun Buckner showed he is more than ready to take over for Bettis as he leads the team with a 27.2 Avg taking 7 receptions for 191 yds and 2 TD.

BOISE GETS IT'S REVENGE!!!

GAME RECAP
Since their Week 2 loss at Forth Worth last season, Coach Miller and the Broncos have had their Week 2 rematch with the Horn Frogs circled on the calendar. Adding fuel to the fire was the fact both teams were coming in ranked in the Top-15 and TCU was looking to make a statement that they could beat the Broncos on the Blue.

TCU opened up their season with a (41-27) win over BYU but then had a Week 1 "Bye" so they came into the game with a extra week to prepare and it showed for 3 Quarters.

TCU forced back to back punts on the Broncos first 2 series of the game and then forced a INT by Draft on the 3rd. Still tied (0-0) Brian Crum would finally find the endzone as the 1st Quarter comes to a end as BSU takes a (7-0) lead.

The Bronco Defense playing in their new 3-4 Defense played inspired though as they continued to force TCU into 3rd and long series after series.
Despite picking up just 31 yds on 11 carries (2.8 avg) Freshman Brian Crum did manage a 2nd rushing touchdown in the 2nd Quarter to extend the Bronco lead to (14-0) and then after a TCU FG making it (14-3) BSU would drive the field in the final 2 minutes capping a 9 play drive with a 8 yd TD pass to TE Josh Flaherty.

Flaherty would finish the 1st half with 4 rec for 60 yds, well Bettis had 6 rec for 45 yds.

The 1st half POG honors go to Washington transfer WR Tyler Crook.. After finishing with 5 rec for 89 yds in the Broncos Week 1 win over Memphis, Crook broke out with a team high 7 rec for 127 yds giving Draft another big play option in the passing game.

Almost all of TCU’s offensive struggles in the 1st half can be attributed to QB George Gooch (84). The RS Freshman completed just 5/17 pass attempts for 37 yds and threw his first career INT to CB Larry Halapio.

TCU opened up the 2nd half with the ball and found he endzone finally as JR RB Spencer Shaver (89 ovr) breaks his longest run of the day for a 34 yd touchdown. TCU would leave the offense on the field trying for the 2pt play but comes up short making it (21-9). Then it was the TCU Defense coming up big as JR CB Salesi Uhatafe picks off Draft and takes it 52 yds before Bettis makes a touchdown saving tackle. TCU was forced to settle for a 22 yd FG making it (21-12).. With the ground game still struggling and Draft now with 2 INT's on the day, the Bronco Offense continued to struggle as BSU sends out Lauderdale for his 6 punt of the game after recording just 1 in Week 1.

The Bronco D however continue to put pressure Gooch, as the Redshirt Freshman is sacked for a 4th time as TCU settles for yet another FG making it (21-15) going into the 4th Quarter.

Despite the ground game struggling, Coach Miller stuck with it as Brian Crum scores his 2nd TD of the game to extend Boise State's lead to (28-15). Then it was Texas Tech transfer CB Larry Halapio coming up big with his 2nd INT off Gooch setting up a the Broncos inside the redzone. After several attempts to punch it with Crum, Miller dialed up a FB dive by former RB Tyler Fry who scores for his first touchdown of the season after recording 6 last season as the Broncos short yardage back... Miller would leave the Offense on the field as Draft connects with Crook on the 2pt play to make it a 3 score lead (36-15) with just 6 minutes to play in the game.

Another big stop by the Broncos Defense gives BSU the ball back and by now the TCU Defense was out of gas as Draft connects on a 44 yd bomb to Crook to set up another Bronco touchdown as Jermarcus Boykins takes it in from 4 yds out extending the lead to (43-15).

For George Gooch today is a day he will likely remember for awhile and not in a good way, but the RS FR would finally manage to break through with a big play as he finds his TE Cam Haslam (77 Ovr) for a 8 yd touchdown to cut the lead to (43-22) but a failed onside kick gives BSU the ball back with 2:18 to play.

With the Bronco ground game still under 100 yds on the day, Miller would make a switch at RB, as Crum heads to the sideline.. After a explosive day in his debut going for over 200 yds and 5 scores the True Freshman didn't look the same in Week 2 as he manages just 65 yds on 22 carries (3.0 avg) and we would find out why as heads to the locker room to be looked at by the Medical staff.

Redshirt Freshman Jason Whitted took over on the final drive carrying the ball 6 times for 35 yds (5.8 avg) including a 8 yd touchdown run as BSU puts the final nail in the revenge coffin.
FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-50 TCU-22
KEY PLAYERS
QB T. Draft-38/65 (58%) 480 yds 1 TD 2 INT
RB B. Crum-22 carries 65 yds (2.9 avg) 3 TD, 2 rec 14 yds

With the win Boise State jumps to #5 in the rankings as they prepare for a Week 3 matchup against #18 Auburn.

CRUM'S SEASON COMES TO A END
In Week 1, 5* Recruit Brian Crum showed Bronco Nation and the entire nation that he could very well be the best RB to put on a Bronco Uniform and that's high praise coming from a program that has produced the likes of Ashton Jeanty, Sire Gaines, George Holani, Jeremy McNichols, Alexander Mattison, Jay Ajayi, Doug Martin who have all gone on to play in the NFL.

However after struggling in Week 2, the staff and fans could tell something was up and they found out why as the Medical Staff finds a Partial Torn PCL effectively ending Crum's season as he is expected to miss the next 7-8 weeks.

Brian has a huge career ahead of him here in Boise and I know we are all excited to see just how good he will be, but we are not going to take any chances. Brian will redshirt for the remainder of the season. Losing Brian is a huge blow to the Offense and our RB room but we got a great group of guy's who I believe will step up and help carry the load.. Jason showed it in the 4th Quarter and we still got alot of depth who havn't even seen the field yet that have looked really good in practice.. We also believe that J.B. (Jermarcus Boykins) is ready for a bigger role in the run game as well and we will continue to give him as many touches as we can.

BRONCOS MOVE TO 3-0

GAME RECAP

No Brian Crum.. No problem.. Despite losing their top rusher in Week 2, the Boise State Bronco run game looked solid in Week 3 producing 163 yds on the ground and 3 touchdowns in the Broncos win over Auburn as they pick up their 2nd win on the road against SEC programs.

Auburn would actually lead at the end of the 1st Quarter (14-7) and at the end of the half (24-21) but Boise State played a inspired 2nd half as they opend the 2nd half with a 25 yd touchdown run by Jason Whitted to take the lead (28-24). Auburn answered back though as SR QB Philip Okudah (89 ovr) throws his 3rd touchdown of the game to make it (31-28) but BSU answers back with another rushing touchdown as QB Tua Draft dives in from 4 yds out to make it (35-31) going into the 4th.

Okudah opened up the 4th quarter throwing a INT as Outside LB Joseph Keenoy comes up with his 2nd pick of the season setting up another Whitted touchdown as BSU extends the lead to (42-31). Okudah would bounce back though as the Senior goes over 400 yds on the day setting up a 6 yd TD by SO RB Ian Bowanko (84 ovr) to make it (42-38) but that is as close as the Tigers would get.

Draft already with 3 touchdowns on the day including 2 to Bettis would find his Bettis for the "Hat Trick" as Bettis hauls in a 60 yd bomb to make it (49-38) with under 4 minutes to play in the game. A huge 4th down stop by the Broncos Defense gives BSU the ball back with under a minute to play and with 13 seconds on the clock Miler sends out the kicking team as SR PK Diego Gutierrez nails a 48 yd FG for the final points of the game
