Huskies added 23 players to roster as they break for camp, looking to make final push for Super Bowl

The Toronto Huskies signed 23 players to bring their roster total up to 75 as they head into training camp, including former all-pro pass rusher Justin Houston.

The signings also included running backs Melvin Gordon III, Bryce Love, Cade Carney and Devonta Freeman, wide receivers Aaron Fuller, Nelson Agholor, Chase Claypool and Garry Jennings, tight ends Harrison Bryant and Kennt Yeboah, offensive tackle Garrett Bolles, defensive tackles Leki Fotu and Deadrin Senat, defensive end Olivier Vernon, outside linebackers Anthony Barr and Cam Keyes, cornerbacks Patrick Peterson, Darnay Holmes and Josiah Scott, safeties Jonathan Abraham, Rayshawn Jenkins and Jaquan Johnson

Top Storylines
Muti moves back to center as Lawrence gets premier protection
With the drafting of Collin Nortman and Edwin Rankin in the first round, Toronto will likely have an offensive line that consists of only first round picks in Dominique Vernon, Rankin, Netane Muti, Drew Mackey and Nortman with Muti and Vernon being pro-bowlers.

Muti returns to center where he struggled in 2022 before moving back to guard, allowing just one-sack last season in his pro bowl season. The hope is that with another year under his belt, the six-foot-three pro bowler will fare better this time around.

Toronto is big up front with everyone outside of Muti being over six-foot-six and 320 pounds.

Put up or shut up time for Leonard
Richard Leonard had a lot of praise coming out of camp last season but failed to be productive due to injuries. His hurdles and burst of speed showed flashes in the regular season but not enough for Toronto to stay away from bringing in a few more outside receivers in Chase Claypool and Garry Jennings.

The former third round pick was panned as a selection coming out of Charleston Southern and he needs to start producing this preseason if he wants to prove doubters wrong.

Can Cooper make the roster?
With his Southern twang and prolific college career, it didn't take long for 23-year old rookie quarterback Eric Cooper to become a fan favorite. Cooper's two ACL injuries has limited his athleticism and his shoulder injuries have taken a hit on his arm strength but the "can-do" quarterback will get plenty of opportunities this preseason to force Toronto to carry three quarterbacks.

Huskies trade for All-Pro S Adams ahead of training camp

Just 48 hours before the start of training camp, the Toronto Huskies traded a 2025 first and third round pick along with outside linebacker Montez Sweat to the New York Jets for safety Jamal Adams.

It remains to be seen if Adams' trade means the end for safety Keanu Neal, who has a $12.5 million cap hit this season and $13.3 million next year. If both are kept, they are able to both play in the box and could both be featured on the field at the same time alongside safety Jalen Thompson.

Simply put, the Huskies acquired arguably the top safety in the game and one of the NFL's top defensive players. He's also under contract through 2027 on a reasonable cap hit of $5.83 million this season which escalates to $7.82 million in 2027. That number is comparable to the cap hit of Sweat and linebacker Cole Holcomb who aren't nearly as productive as the 28-year old Adams.
