I want it to be known: I was fully prepared to lose. Arch Manning had them boys buzzing. They were barring down on our endzone. They were absolutely going to score, and we were going to have no time to put a drive together. That fumble came out and I knew the Football Gods made a choice :blessed:

I’m personally shocked we somehow rattled this off. Truly a Cinderella run

Late comeback attempt comes up short, Cinderella story ends in heartbreak

For a second, in the fourth quarter, it felt as though Coach James Xavier and his Cinderella story Virginia Cavaliers had one more rabbit to pull out of the hat. They had somehow scored two quick touchdowns and gotten the ball back from the dominant Oregon Ducks. However, Ducks cornerback Daylen Austin made the play of his career; breaking in front of star Cavaliers wide receiver Jaden Gibson and intercepting the ball, calling midnight on the Cavaliers.

The Oregon Ducks have won the 2027 National Championship, with quarterback Austin Novosad leading them to a 42-35, high-scoring victory despite five passing touchdowns from quarterback Anthony Colandrea.

The game started out horrifically for the Cavaliers, with kick returner Zachary Card running 102 yards to the house on the opening kickoff, gaining resemblance to Hall of Fame kick returner Devin Hester during the Super Bowl. The Ducks would utterly dominate in the first half, leading 21-7 at half-time with a Triston Ward-walkoff touchdown being the only score for Virginia.

"We came out soft as hell," said offensive coordinator Slade Nagle. "As soon as that Ducks' front seven shut down our running game - which had really become our identity - we shriveled up. I thought we were dead at half-time."

The resilience of the Cavaliers showed up in the second half, however. Despite the Ducks claiming another rushing touchdown - one of three from running back Jayden Limar - the Cavaliers would capitalize thanks to a Kameron Courtney swing pass going 25 yards into the end zone.

The Cavs and the Ducks would trade touchdowns, with the Ducks striking early before a forced fumble from defensive end Jewett Hayes woke the opportunistic Cavaliers' offense up. Triston Ward took over for Gibson as the Cavaliers' number one offensive threat, scoring two long touchdowns to make it three on the day.

However, the interception by Austin would swallow up any momentum, leaving no time for the Cavaliers' defense to reclaim the ball.

"I couldn't be prouder of these guys," said an emotional James Xavier at the post-game press conference. "They took it on the chin all season long, with so many people thinking we couldn't be here. We overcame so much. This is such a young, promising team. We will be back, under different circumstances. I promise you that."

tough tough loss bro. From that opening kickoff TD to being down 21, to throwing 5 touchdowns and almost leading the comeback. Amazing game man, tough to be on the losing end of those ones. Nonetheless, a great cinderella run. Are you running it back? Or moving on to 26?
