Change has been the only constant for the Wolfpack through the first sixteen games under Jerome Singleton
Jeff Longo -- Nevada Sports Net College Football Writer

Less than a year after making Brad Cornelsen his first ever hire as a college football head coach, Jerome Singleton fired Cornelsen and went in a different direction after just one season. Senior linebacker Samuel Hopper led the team in tackles last year and played nearly every snap in the season opener against Boise State. Displeased with Hopper's performance, he has since been benched and has played a marginal role in the Wolfpack's last two games, both wins. Afa Keur, the redshirt sophomore corner, won the starting job in camp and started against Boise State. He's played a grand total of nineteen snaps since.

"You have to trust the process but you also have to be decisive," Singleton said when asked about balancing being rash and being urgent, "If it's not working, it's not working. You typically know as a coach, whether it's a play, a scheme or a particular player, when it's not working. You can examine it and try to contextualize it all you want but at the end of the day, you have to be able to make the call and for me, I don't want the season to over and for me to be looking back thinking back to whether or not we should have made a change."

The change of coordinators, and offensive scheme, has been effective through three games. Senior quarterback Darian Molinaro's completion percentage is up, as is his yards per attempt through the air and as a rusher, he's been even more effective in Josh Zimmerman's pro style offense which doesn't have any designed quarterback runs and instead relies on Molinaro to decide on when to turn it into sandlot football.

The senior has been great at it, rushing for 132 yards per game with six touchdowns on the year already, matching his total last year. Unlike last year, the Wolfpack have an identity as a power running football team with two running backs in Gerald Whittaker, the four-star true freshman, and BYU transfer Dennis Linnenkohl. The MWC's leading rushers are Molinaro, Whittaker and Linnenkohl.

They'll need to rely on that running game to pull off the upset when they travel to Eugene this weekend before opening MWC play right after that.

yeah i thought we were going to lose to CSU for sure. they're not highly rated which had me concerned but the San Diego State game was a nice confident booster.

IDK about Oregon, they might be sweet. They're very good across the board with every starter rated 88-92 but they don't have any crazy players with 99 speed etc.

Nevada zeroing in on four-star quarterback Sam McCurdy following string of four-star commitments
Logan Finau -- Nevada247 Football Writer

The University of Nevada holds commitments from three four-star offensive line, a four-star receiver and a four star tight end. With the scaffolding set up, the Wolfpack are now an attractive landing spot for quarterbacks still looking for a home and that appears to be the case for four-star quarterback Sam McCurdy, who is the 25th ranked quarterback this cycle.

Oklahoma State and SMU have been the leaders in his recruitment for a while but Nevada is now emerging as the favorite to land the Mesquite, Texas quarterback's signature on Signing Day. McCurdy would be the highest ranked quarterback that the Wolfpack have signed under head coach Jerome Singleton, who already has four seven stars committed to the Wolfpack in his second year with the team.

Singleton, who is from Los Angeles, landed a big time commitment already from Los Angeles' Tony McClease who has the potential to be a day one impact player, similar to true freshman Gerald Whittaker. The Wolfpack also have four-star tight end Elijah Lindsey committed, who would be the highest ranked player (55th nationally) to sign with the Wolfpacks in the 247 Sports era.

Your quarterback throwing the most passes in a single game yet in a game that ended in a 7-6 loss is peak hilarity.

I almost benched him in that game, he just couldn't hit open receivers and when he did, the guys were dropping passes. tried to get him going with a bunch of screens, hence the higher than usual pass attempt numbers

Nevada adds four-star quarterback Sam McCurdy to be potential trigger man for Josh Zimmerman's offense
Logan Finau -- Nevada247 Football Writer

Four-star quarterback Sam McCurdy has committed to the Nevada Wolfpack, becoming the highest ranked quarterback to sign with the Wolfpack in the early stages of the Jerome Singleton era.

McCurdy, who is a top 25 arm this cycle, is from Texas and picked the Wolfpack over Oklahoma State and SMU. A rising prospect, McCurdy has a live enough arm to make most throws at the college level and is at his best in the short to intermediate area. While he does not pose the big play ability of current starter Darian Molinaro, McCurdy is a more natural fit for offensive coordinator Josh Zimmerman's pro style offense with his ability to distribute the ball at a high level and has experience playing under center.

The expectations wouldn't be for McCurdy to come in and start right away although that is on the table given that Molinaro is a starter and the team's current backup, Ramon Stoneburner, doesn't have much experience either.

McCurdy is the eight four-star in Nevada's top twenty ranked recruiting class, which grew its lead over UNLV for the highest ranked class in the MWC. No other MWC team has a four-star committed and the Wolfpack could potentially add another in running back Moses Denson out of Rialto, California.

Denson, who is originally from Los Angeles, is one of the top players in the state of California and a top 150 prospect in the country. USC and UCLA are considered the favorites so if Singleton is able to pull off the heist and land two top running backs in back to back cycles away from top programs, this would be a huge win for him and his staff.
