USF RECRUITING REPORT

BULLS ADD BRADENTON WR BARR

-Three star WR Josh Barr of Bradenton has signed on with the Bulls. Barr, who is ranked as the 274th best WR in the nation, stands 6'1” and is adept at winning jump balls and making the difficult catch.
-USF's class is now at 12 players, all three stars. The class is ranked 18th in the nation with a score of 142.80. Navy's 119.60 score is second in the American, ranked 34th in the nation.

Coach Porter's Notes
Their front seven is solid, not outstanding. RE Norman (#9) is their best pass rusher and h is quick.
They lack speed at linebacker but MLB Farrow (#52) gets after the ball. We should be able to handle them.
CBs all have some speed, White (#3) is a ball hawk, look for him. Safeties are both good in coverage.
Coach White's Notes
QB Semonza (#3) is one of the better ones we will face this season, not a big runner but he will get away when he needs to.
They have a very good trio of RBs. Davidson (#28) has big play speed, he has missed most of the season but he is back healthy now. Bowens (#27) leads the team with almost 1,000 yards and 17 touchdowns, he's nearly as fast as Davidson. Williams (#35) is not a downgrade. All three can be dangerous out of the backfield. We must set the edge and contain them.
The WRs are not as big of a threat as the runningbacks but they can still do damage. Mitchell (#80) is their #1, not a burner but crisp routes and very good hands.
OL is solid but not outstanding.

USF's Hewlett leads game winning drive to claim American Championship

Saturday December 11, 2027 | 4:00PM | Raymond James Stadium | Tampa, Florida

Tampa, Florida - On a night where momentum swung like a pendulum and stars were forced to shine under pressure, the No. 22 USF Bulls delivered one of the most dramatic victories in program history by outlasting No. 25 Tulane 27–24 to capture the 2027 American Athletic Conference Championship.

Behind an electric performance from junior quarterback Locklan Hewlett, who completed 33 of 43 passes for 355 yards, the Bulls mounted a late-game response to Tulane’s furious fourth-quarter comeback. Hewlett was poised, efficient, and unshaken, including 14 completions to standout wide receiver Tyler Williams, who himself posted a championship-record 14 catches for 177 yards.

But for most of the night, the Bulls were forced to absorb and answer blows.

Tulane’s offense, led by senior quarterback Kadin Semonza, was relentless, explosive, and brutally efficient. Semonza carved up the USF secondary for 381 yards and two touchdowns, including a 78-yard strike to Oliver Mitchell Jr. that stunned the Raymond James crowd and flipped the momentum with just over two minutes to play.

USF had controlled much of the game, but Tulane’s back-to-back fourth quarter touchdowns erased a 10-point deficit and left the Bulls trailing 24–20 with the season on the line.

And that’s when Hewlett stepped onto the field and authored the defining drive of his career.

Hewlett marched the Bulls 70 yards in 11 plays, completing 9 of 10 pass attempts and hitting Jeremiah Stoneburner on a perfectly timed out route in the endzone with 13 seconds left on fourth and goal.

Stoneburner’s 2-yard touchdown catch with :13 remaining not only capped the rally, it put USF ahead for good and ignited a full-stadium eruption from Bulls fans who had spent the previous five minutes holding their breath.

Defensively, USF linebacker Eric Rance led the team with 11 tackles while Jermaine Dalias recorded seven tackles with two for loss. Izaiah Guy picked off a Semonza pass early in the fourth quarter.

Special teams also played a crucial role. Nico Gramatica was perfect on the night, drilling both of his field goal attempts and all three extra points, while Dorian McSurdy flipped the field twice with high-hang punts.

For Tulane, the loss was heartbreaking but showcased the talent that powered their nine win regular season. Semonza was spectacular, Oliver Mitchell Jr. was explosive, and running back Gideon Davidson totaled 89 yards from scrimmage in an all-purpose role. Defensively, linebacker Jack Tchienchou’s 13 tackles kept the Green Wave in it until the final whistle.

In the end, however, USF’s balance, and Hewlett’s brilliance, proved too much.

With the win, USF secures its first American Athletic Conference title since realignment and positions itself for a marquee bowl appearance. For head coach DJ Porter, it marks the signature victory of his Bulls tenure, and one that will be remembered long after the confetti settles on the Raymond James turf.

USF POSTGAME REPORT

#22 USF 27 – #25 Tulane 24

Offense
–In the biggest moment of the season, USF’s offense delivered when it mattered most. Quarterback Locklan Hewlett turned in one of the finest performances of his career, completing 33-of-43 passes for 355 yards and a touchdown while keeping the Bulls turnover-free for the third straight game. Hewlett was poised in every pressure situation, consistently solving Tulane’s zone rotations and blitz disguises.

–With Tulane selling out to limit the perimeter run game, Hewlett leaned on quick-game concepts and intermediate windows to sustain drives. The ground attack found tough yards when needed: Steven Snead (6 carries, 39 yards), George Shembo (13 carries, 26 yards, 2 TD), and Nicholas Daniel (7 carries, 25 yards) helped keep the playbook balanced.

–But the passing game was the centerpiece, powered by an extraordinary outing from Tyler Williams, who posted 14 receptions for 177 yards, repeatedly bailing out the offense on second- and third-and-long. Jordyn Bridgewater, Daidren Zipperer, Dawann Troup, and Kyrie Michaels all contributed meaningful chain-moving catches.

–The defining moment came on the game-winning drive engineered by Hewlett in the final minutes. Hewlett marched the Bulls 70 yards in 11 plays, completing 9 of 10 pass attempts.

–Hewlett capped the march with a 2-yard strike to Jeremiah Stoneburner with 13 seconds remaining, sealing USF’s first outright American Championship of the Porter era.

Defense
–Tulane attacked vertically all afternoon, but USF’s defense responded with timely stops and a drive-killing interception.

–Izaiah Guy picked off a Semonza pass in the fourth quarter.

–Eric Rance led the team with 11 tackles, while Nate Jones, Jermaine Dalias, and David Igbinoghene each posted seven stops, helping limit Tulane’s run game to just 26 total yards.

–Despite giving up a pair of explosive fourth-quarter touchdowns through the air, the defense held firm when it absolutely needed to, forcing Tulane to punt before Hewlett’s game-winning drive.

Coach Porter praised the unit afterward:
“We bent a few times, but we never broke. Those takeaways and those stops kept us alive. Couldn’t be prouder of how they responded.”

Special Teams
–Kicker Nico Gramatica remained as steady as ever, going 2-for-2 on field goals (long 37) and 3-for-3 on PATs. Every point was essential in a game decided by a single possession.

–Punter Dorian McSurdy was excellent once again, averaging 43.5 yards on two punts and consistently pinning Tulane deep.

–Return specialist Elton York recorded a 14-yard punt return, while David Igbinoghene added 65 kickoff return yards to help tilt field position in USF’s favor.
