Bubba Mack offers first public comment on transfer portal ban as Stanford falls to fifteenth on Early NSD

For the first time since Stanford announced plans to self-impose a one-year transfer portal ban, head coach Bubba Mack addressed the decision publicly — and he didn’t hold back.

Speaking Wednesday during the Cardinal’s Early National Signing Day press conference, Mack said he “understands” the university’s position but does not support the self-imposed punishment that effectively sidelines Stanford from adding transfers through next year.

“I understand it, but I don’t support it,” Mack said. “I’m disappointed we’re not continuing to fight. I turned over every piece of information that was relevant. The only thing I didn’t do — and won’t do — is hand over my personal phone, because that’s a dangerous precedent to set.”

The comments mark Mack’s first public acknowledgment of the self-imposed ban to resolve the matter. Mack made clear that his stance hasn’t changed.

“The investigation’s been a joke from the start,” he said. “We’ve cooperated every step of the way as a program, and I’ve done everything within reason. But I’m not setting a precedent where every coach in the country has to give up their personal devices just because someone throws out an accusation.”

Despite the controversy, Mack appeared composed as he discussed the 2030 recruiting class — a group that still ranks inside the top 15 nationally despite the shadow of the investigation and a tough final few weeks. Four-star running back Caleb Cone picked Pittsburgh over the Cardinal and four-star defensive tackle Kenyon Watford and three-star quarterback Raymond Dalton chose Oregon over Stanford and Clemson edged out Stanford for offensive tackle Nolan Bull.

They were also not included in five-star cornerback Nate Story's updated top two of Texas A&M and Alabama as he'll be signing in February on National Signing Day, a major blow to Stanford that had invested a lot in Story.

Oklahoma’s Deuce Knight wins Heisman Trophy after leading Sooners to undefeated regular season

Oklahoma quarterback Deuce Knight capped off a historic season on Saturday night by winning the Heisman Trophy, edging out Mississippi State wide receiver Nate Wiegert and Missouri quarterback Matt Zollers.

Knight threw for 3,806 yards and 39 touchdowns while leading the Sooners to an undefeated regular season and a berth in the SEC Championship Game, where they fell to LSU. Knight becomes the eighth Oklahoma player to win the Heisman — and the program’s first since Caleb Williams in 2022 — further cementing the Sooners’ reputation as one of college football’s premier quarterback factories.

Though his raw numbers trailed Zollers, who threw for 4,489 yards and 43 touchdowns for one-loss Missouri, Knight’s poise in big moments carried the Heisman narrative.
