42nd-ranked class isn't bad when you have to recruit all these smart kids. How will going independent impact recruiting?
we'll have to rely on player development. im not sure, i wonder what conference prestige is based on. should still be decent since notre dame is there

Earl Nienhuis, D.J. Baas highlight solid transfer portal class for Stanford after brutal start to NSD
Chris Wallace -- 247Sports Stanford Football Insider
National Signing Day couldn't have started worse for the Stanford Cardinal. Five-star running back Malik Marshall picked Notre Dame, ending a nearly year-long saga for his signature. Their top transfer portal targets in the secondary -- Jalen Fuller, Eric Head, Erik Hook -- all picked other schools.
And then D.J. Bass, the top ranked left tackle in the portal, surprised many when he picked Stanford, following in the footstep of Neil Pryor who did the same thing two years ago. He'd be joined by four-star quarterback Earl Nienhuis and seven other transfers as the Cardinal salvaged their way to a top 23 transfer portal class and a top-40 high school class.
Baas is a major get for the Cardinal who add a talented body to the offensive line room which has always been a priority for Stanford. While some can quibble about Baas' high ranking given that he was unable to win the starting job at Penn State, he's still a quality add to give Stanford some flexibility as they look to replace Pryor.
Such is the case with Nienhuis, who was a backup last season at Wake. Internally, they are treating him almost as an extended high school pickup with the expectation that he'll compete for the backup job behind incumbent starter Alex Rowe. The Cardinal really wanted to upgrade the backup quarterback spot after Rowe suffered an injury in the playoff game against Ohio State.
Stanford did get some experienced players in the portal in Kennesaw State defensive tackle Athya Shade, Stanford coach Bubba Mack's old stomping grounds and quite ironic given the previous tampering allegations that led to a one-year transfer portal ban. Shade had nine tackles for loss last season for an Owls defense that was among the best in G6 and projects to be a potential starter for the Cardinal as they look to replace Cory Jones who had four sacks.
Shaquille Duke is another Group of 6 signing that has some experienced with four pass breakups and nearly seventy tackles for Central Michigan as he looks to make the jump into P4-adjacent football. He's only listed at six-foot-two and 187 pounds but plays much bigger than his size which is something Stanford was looking to add to their safety room after losing Alec Dalton to graduation.
Another interesting name that could be a potential starter in guard Wayne Hoffmann out of Memphis. There are some physical limitations, which is why he was at a school like Memphis and a three-star in the portal, but he played over a 1,000 snaps last year and didn't give up a sack for the Tigers.

what it lacks in star power it looks like it makes it up in depth. Going to be interesting to see who can replace Trumaine and how Rowe progresses in the offseason program
