Riley Patterson denies Titans comeback victory with walk-off field goal as Cardinals escape
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Darian Mensah rushed for nine yards and threw for 23 yards in less than twenty seconds as the Cardinals held off the Tennessee Titans' comeback efforts, setting up Riley Patterson's game winning 57-yard field goal as time expired to win 40-38 on Friday.

The Titans had rallied from a 21-0 deficit after a slow start from both their offense and defense, including a fumble from Ja'Kobi Lane and an interception from Cam Ward that resulted in a touchdown. Ward was able to engineer a touchdown drive on his final drive, aided by a 51-yard completion to Xavier Restrepo who caught a two-yard touchdown on the very next play to make it 21-7 and begin the Titans' comeback efforts.

Ward finished the game 7 of 14 for 135 yards with a touchdown and interception apiece. Murray threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns with the aforementioned interceptions.

The comeback, which peaked with Alonzo Barnett's touchdown run in the fourth with twenty seconds left to take the lead, was aided by a few splash plays like Roger McCreary and Jermaine Matthews each intercepting Kyler Murray in the second quarter and a 52-yard touchdown from undrafted rookie Jaivian Thomas, who would later fumble the football which was returned for a touchdown.



A mixed bag for the rookies
Zach Rice got some run with the first team offensive line, coming in on the third drive of the game before leaving with an upper body injury. In his snaps, Rice was solid, especially in the running game where there was a noticeable improvement in his ability to move defenders compared to the smaller Garrett Bradbury.

Injuries also played a factor for undrafted free agent Jayden Gibson who, when Justin Jefferson left with an apparent chest injury, it was Gibson who replaced him with the first team offense. Gibson practically played the whole game, leading the way with 59 snaps. While Jefferson's injury was minor, the fact that Gibson got in so early and was kept in is a good sign for his chances to make the roster. Gibson had three catches for 51 yards and continues to impress.

An injury to Josh Conerly Jr, which is also not expected to keep him sidelined, also saw Malik Agbo play a lot of snaps at left tackle although to varying success. It's clear that the 285-pound rookie is not ready to be an every down player currently and will benefit from a redshirt year.

Someone that might not have that luxury is Rasheem Biles who continues to struggle as he makes the transition to safety. Biles played more snaps at linebacker in the second half, especially when Whit Weeks exited the game with an ankle injury and he had two pass breakups, a tackle for loss and a sack so ideally, that might be where he should play but he also struggled against taking on blocks when asked to play in the second level so the experiment at safety is likely to continue.

Injury report could mean a dud of a finale
Titans head coach Steve Jackson seemed confident that the slate of injuries picked up against Cardinals were of the minor variety with Jefferson, Weeks and Conerly all remaining in pads and being back on the sideline. Still, several players were dinged up and with the regular season opener rounding the corner, we could see a more conservative approach to Thursday's preseason finale against New Orleans.

A few players that might be slated for some R&R this week include running back Jam Miller (chest) who had a nice showing, leading the team in rushing as Mark Fletcher had the night off. Receiver/return specialist Deion Burks left the game with an apparent ankle injury which for roster purposes could be one to watch. Burks, along with Restrepo and Gibson, are fighting for that sixth receiver spot and while Gibson and Restrepo lead the team in receiving, Burks has yet to catch a pass. If he misses the finale, while Gibson and/or Restrepo shines, it's yet another case for them to make the roster over him.

With starters not expected to play in the preseason finale, six players to watch against New Orleans
Tennessee Titans head coach Steve Jackson said that quarterback Cam Ward will see an increased work load during joint practices with the New Orleans Saints, hinting that Ward, and other established starters, are likely looking a rest day on Thursday when they host the Saints in the preseason finale.

With that being said, the game will still be meaningful for plenty of players as they look to solidify their roster spot and in some cases, perhaps earn a greater role as the Sunday night season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers nears.

S Lonnie Johnson Jr.
A late free agent addition, Johnson's low cap hit number ($3 million) made him a borderline roster guy to begin with and that was before they drafted safeties Rasheem Biles and Joenel Aguero.

It seems that the plan was for Biles, the converted linebacker, to take over that other safety spot next to Kevin Winston Jr, vacated by Xavier Woods but it hasn't gone according to plan with Biles' struggles in coverage.

Johnson, on the other hand, has been pretty steady and actually leads the team in tackles. A solid end to the preseason could not only mean a roster spot for Johnson but potentially being a rotational player at the start of the season and having a path to being a starter.

HB Kalel Mullings
The third-year running back out of Michigan averaged 4.4 yards per carry last season, a full yard of improvement from his rookie season and was RB2 behind Mark Fletcher Jr. when Jam Miller went down with an injury.

So far this preseason, we haven't seen much of Mullins with just three carries for 15 yards. Even Fletcher, whose been rested, has more carries.

Could Mullings, similar to Fletcher, be on a load management plan as a bigger back that, if he makes the roster, will be used in short yardage and so maybe the coaching staff is saving him? Possibly but the other possibility is that he could have fallen behind the likes of Jaivian Thomas, the undrafted rookie whose had some splash splays -- and also a costly fumble -- or even a Damien Martinez who also hasn't played much but on average, was more efficient than Mullings last season.

WR Deion Burks
Many would have penciled Burks in as a roster lock due to his special teams value where he returned 33 kicks last year, including one for a touchdown, and was also a gunner on punt.

While Burks likely still makes the roster, it's no longer a lock. He's been ineffective as a receiver, zero catches on fifty-one snaps, and the addition of Marcus Jones gives the team another option in the return game.

If the starters don't play, which is expected, Burks should have plenty of chances to make an impact, both on offense and special teams and he's the type of explosive player that might only need one big play to solidify his spot.

RT Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
This isn't going to be a sexy watch but it might be an important one as he might be one snap away from protecting Ward, who is slated to be a $300 million quarterback in the upcoming year.

Dawand Jones is expected to make his preseason debut at left tackle, getting the start over Malik Agbo at left tackle whose been the primary backup to Josh Conerly Jr. We know that Agbo probably makes the roster due to being a rookie and Jones is the backup left tackle.

Crenshaw-Dickson is going to need to show and make the case that the Titans need to carry five offensive tackles which is a tall order, especially since he hasn't been that much better than Agbo.

CB Brice Pollock
The fourth round pick has played a whopping two snaps all preseason in what is a very crowded cornerback room and could be looking at a redshirt year on the practice squad.

The Titans could choose to carry five corners but even then, Pollock is likely on the outside looking in. Jermaine Matthews Jr. and Roger McCreary are the starters with Marcus Jones being the top nickel option. Behind them is Joshua Williams and Elijah Jones, the latter which signed an extension and the former was a free agent signing so they are likely going to make the roster.

Pollock is going to put on a hell of a finale to make the roster as leaping those five players aren't likely and he'll need to make the case for carrying six corners.

QB Alonza Barnett III
The undrafted free agent is actually the highest rated passer on the team with a passer rating of 130.5.

He's been pretty good, completing 61 percent of his passes for 175 yards and has two rushing touchdowns as well. Like many on this list, he has a uphill climb to make the roster behind starter Cam Ward, veteran Marcus Mariota and then a similar young quarterback in Jalen Milroe.

The Titans gave up draft assets to get Milroe and Mariota was brought in to be that veteran in the quarterback room so Barnett is not really fighting for a roster spot as much as showcasing to other teams that might be interested if and when he hits waivers.

Titans deal running back Kalel Mullings, cornerback Joshua Williams for draft picks
The cutdown to the 53-man roster has already begun and the Tennessee Titans haven't even played their final game of the preseason yet. The Titans have traded cornerback Joshua Williams to the Green Bay Packers for a third round pick and running back Kalel Mullings to the Cincinnati Bengals for a conditional fourth round pick.

Williams had signed a three-year, $15 million contract with the Titans this offseason but heads to Green Bay without playing in a regular season game for Tennessee. The Titans had tried Williams at safety throughout OTAs before returning him to corner, where he was firmly behind top corners Jermaine Matthews Jr. and Roger McCreary as the top outside corners with Marcus Jones and Elijah Jones being the top options in the slot.

It's the second consecutive season that the Titans are shipping a running back to Cincinnati after trading Tony Pollard to the Bengals last season. The Bengals did make it to the Super Bowl but Pollard averaged 43 yards per game, this lowest since his second season in the league and the draft pick acquired in the trade was used to land Justin Jefferson.

Pollard is expected to miss some time with a thumb injury, opening the door for Mullings to establish a role in Cincinnati's offense after averaging 4.4 yards per carry last season with six total touchdowns.
