Bruno Fernandes Out for Two Months with Dislocated Shoulder

Fernandes suffered an injury to his shoulder early in the season opener and had to come off.

July 2025 - Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes suffered a dislocated shoulder in the season opener against West Ham, sidelining the usually ever-present playmaker for the next two months. The injury forced Marcus Rashford to come on as his replacement, with the club indicating that either Rashford or Mason Mount will likely cover the LAM role in the coming weeks while Fernandes recovers.

Despite the setback, manager Rúben Amorim remains confident in the squad’s depth, with Rashford’s pace and Mount’s versatility providing viable options in the left attacking midfield position for United’s high-tempo, vertical style.

I like the moves. Baleba is a great signing and I was never a fan of Martinez, give the little angry man to Chelsea. He fits in there.

Someone has to step up now with Bruno gone.

Yeah really like Baleba and wanted to sign him irl. Martinez is not good as an outside CB in this game cause he's kinda slow for that role.

Transfer Deadline Wrap-Up: United Announce 2025-26 Squad

Image
United are taking a small squad of just 22 players into 2025-26, with plenty of opportunity available for youth players to join the first team.

September 2025 - With the transfer window closed, Manchester United have finalized their 25-man squad for the upcoming season with just 22 players. There are concerns that they may not have the requisite depth to compete in the Champions League this year, however there will be ample opportunity for young players to step up and earn permanent spots in the first team. United's window featured the signings of Takefusa Kubo for £65M from Real Sociedad, Carlos Baleba for £35M from Brighton & Hove Albion, and Reo Hatate from Celtic for £9M as part of an initiative to bring in more Asian and African talent. Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Ethan Wheatley, and Dan Gore all left the club on permanent deals, while Harry Amass accepted a loan move to Luton Town for the season as Gabriel Davey is now ahead of him in the pecking order behind Antony at left wingback.

Elsewhere, the transfer window featured some massive deals headlined by Liverpool's British transfer record deal for Sporting's Viktor Gyökeres at £118.9M. For a full summary of the top 10 non-Manchester United deals, see the list below:
  • Sporting CP sold ST Viktor Gyökeres to Liverpool for £118.9M
  • Paris St. Germain sold CM Vitinha to Bayer Leverkusen for £110.3M
  • Arsenal sold William CB Saliba to Paris St. Germain for £106.8M
  • Real Madrid sold CB Eder Militao to Manchester City for £100.1M
  • Chelsea sold CDM Moises Caicedo to Inter Milan for £93.9M
  • Inter Milan sold ST Marcus Thuram to Bournemouth for £72.6M
  • Bayern sold CB Dayot Upamecano to AC Milan for £70.7M
  • RB Leipzig sold ST Lois Openda to Barcelona for £70.7M
  • Barcelona sold LB Alejandro Balde to Borussia Dortmund for £65.6M
  • Liverpool sold CB Ibrahima Konate to Arsenal for £60.0M

UEFA Format Shake-Up Pushes Manchester United Out of Champions League, Sparks Club Outrage

Owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the rest of the club hierarchy is furious at an administrative decision that will cost them millions.

September 2025 - Manchester United have been removed from the 2025–26 Champions League following a sudden UEFA format change that has stunned the club’s hierarchy and ignited fury throughout Old Trafford.

United finished 3rd in the Premier League last season, securing what had always been understood as a guaranteed Champions League place. But an unprecedented situation unfolded when Aston Villa won the Champions League and Tottenham won the Europa League—results that, under the original new format, would have added extra English clubs to the expanded competition.

Instead, in a controversial late decision, UEFA ruled that no nation may send more than four clubs to the Champions League, regardless of coefficient or titleholder pathways. The ruling means that Manchester City (1st), Arsenal (2nd), Champions League winners Aston Villa, and Europa League winners Spurs claim the four available English slots—leaving United displaced despite meeting the league qualification standard.

Sources inside the club describe Sir Jim Ratcliffe, CEO Omar Berrada, and manager Rúben Amorim as “furious,” calling the change “anti-competitive,” “arbitrary,” and “a disgraceful moving of the goalposts.” United are preparing formal complaints and are exploring legal options, though UEFA is expected to stand firm.

As a result, United will return to the Europa League, a competition they bitterly believed they had left behind. For a club building toward elite European contention, the decision is seen as nothing short of a gut punch.
