NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES RACE RECAP
Truck Series Championship Race | Phoenix Raceway

LOGAN McQUEEN III BESTS HEIM UNDER THE LIGHTS TO WIN THE TRUCK SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP

McQUEEN OUTDUELS HEIM FOR THE TITLE

On the biggest stage of the season, Logan McQueen III delivered the performance of his career. Under the bright lights of Phoenix Raceway, the driver of the No. 51 Horizon Hobby / Peak Motorsports Chevrolet clawed his way to the front from an 11th place start and claimed the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship.

The evening began with McQueen rolling off 11th after a tight qualifying session dominated by Layne Riggs. McQueen qualified the worst out of the championship four with Heim 2nd Chastain 4th and Busch in 6th but the No. 51 wasted no time slicing forward. By Lap 10, McQueen had cracked the top five. By Lap 20, he was one of the fastest trucks on the racetrack and tracking down the top three of Heim, Chastain and Riggs.

By the end of Stage One McQueen was hounding Corey Heim for the lead but settled for a strong second-place finish, scoring nine crucial stage points. It was a preview of the duel that was coming.

Stage Two was all McQueen. The No. 51 blasted past Heim on the restart and never looked back, taking the stage win by several truck lengths. Even more importantly, McQueen established control of the preferred lane and showed the long-run pace that would define the race.

The final stage turned into a heavyweight fight between the championship contenders. Heim and McQueen swapped the lead multiple times as green-flag pit stops cycled through. A late caution brought the field together one last time, with the title hanging in the balance.

On the restart, McQueen launched perfectly, clearing Heim before the exit of Turn 2. From there, it was all clean air and perfect execution. Heim made one last charge with five laps to go, but McQueen answered with a flawless defensive line and drove away to secure his 10th win of the season, the most in a single year in Truck Series history.

When the checkered flag waved, McQueen crossed the finish line with a half-second advantage over Heim and clinched the championship.

As he climbed out of the truck, Phoenix erupted.

“I can’t thank my crew enough,” McQueen said in the championship celebration. “This trophy means a lot to all of us at Peak Motorsports. I want to thank our team in the garage, our office staff, and definitely our partners at Horizon Hobby for helping make this a moment a reality!”

It was a night of speed, execution, and pressure management, and Logan “Lightning” McQueen met the moment in every possible way.

The Dale Jr. Download
(Theme music fades. Studio chatter fades out as the show begins.)

DALE EARNHARDT JR.:
Hey everybody, it’s the Dale Jr. Download. I’m Dale Earnhardt Jr., with my guy Mike Davis, and today… man, we’ve got a special one. This fella tore up the Truck Series this season, became a fan favorite overnight, and capped it off with a championship at Phoenix.

Logan McQueen III, Lightning himself, is in the studio. Let’s bring him in.

MIKE DAVIS:
He’s smiling already. Champs smile different, Dale.

DALE JR:
Logan, buddy… first off, congrats. Second... Daytona. Thirty-sixth. Dude, your season started in the basement.

LOGAN McQUEEN:
(laughs)
Yeah, we were buried so deep I thought we’d need a tow truck to get out. That race knocked the breath out of me. But honestly, I needed it. I needed to fail right away to understand how hard this is.

MIKE DAVIS:
And then Atlanta, P17. Vegas, P2. Homestead, P4. The climb was fast, man.

McQUEEN:
Once we got to Vegas, the truck felt alive. That run told me, “Okay, you belong here.” Daytona humbled me. Vegas lit the fire.

DALE JR:
And then Bristol, race six, first career win. You didn’t just win, you dominated.

McQUEEN:
That night changed everything. Bristol fits how I like to drive, elbows up, make your own room. After the burnout, I remember thinking: This is what I want for the rest of my life.

MIKE DAVIS:
Rockingham, Charlotte, Nashville, Michigan, Pocono… you went on a tear. That stretch looked like a veteran making a statement.

McQUEEN:
Those wins weren’t because I was some superstar.
It was Alex Ward, my crew chief, and the guys at Peak Motorsports. They kept giving me trucks that made me feel invincible.

DALE JR:
Let’s talk Watkins Glen, Darlington… learning moments.

McQUEEN:
Watkins Glen was me realizing I still had a lot to learn on the road courses, but I knew I could hang. Heim handed me a lesson that day.

Darlington? … Darlington still hurts. Get into the playoffs then boom, big wreck, thirtyth place. That race is like wrestling barbed wire. It checked my ego in a flash.

MIKE DAVIS:
But you bounced back, Bristol win again, third at Loudon, then Talladega, huge win.

McQUEEN:
Talladega was wild. The No. 51 felt glued to the track. Winning that one gave us the cushion we needed for the playoffs.

DALE JR:
Alright, Martinsville. The spin. The controversy. Everyone wants to know, what’d you learn there?

McQUEEN:
I learned two things:

Short tracks don’t care about your feelings.

You can’t win a championship by getting even, you win it by keeping your head.

I was mad in the moment, but looking back… that night taught me composure more than any win ever did.

MIKE DAVIS:
Phoenix. You win the title. You’re doing burnouts. The crowd’s losing their minds. What was the moment like?

McQUEEN:
It was surreal. I remember shutting the engine off and hearing this roar, like the whole track was breathing with me.

All I could think was: We did it. All of us.
My team, my family, everyone at Horizon Hobby… That trophy isn’t just mine. It’s ours.

DALE JR:
Ten wins. Most ever in a Truck season. That’s insane, man.

McQUEEN:
I still don’t fully believe it. It feels like a dream I haven’t woken up from yet.

DALE JR:
Alright champ, what’s the biggest thing you learned this season?

McQUEEN:
That talent isn’t enough. You need people who believe in you on your worst days.
I had that, from my crew chief Alex, to my spotter, to every mechanic at Peak Motorsports.

I learned to listen more, blame less, and take responsibility even when it hurts. That’s how you grow fast in this sport.

MIKE DAVIS:
Alright Logan… you mentioned you had something you wanted to share today. The floor is yours.

McQUEEN:
(smiles wide)
Yeah. This is the part I’ve been waiting for.

So… winning the Truck championship was the goal for this year. And now that we’ve done that...
I’m moving up.

DALE JR:
(to Mike)
He said it. He’s doing it.

McQUEEN:
I’ll be racing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series next season.

And I’m excited to announce that Macc Door Systems is coming on board as my primary sponsor for the start of the season.
We’ve been working on the deal for a while, and they’re giving me a massive opportunity.

MIKE DAVIS:
That’s huge, man. MASSIVE.

DALE JR:
Proud of you, buddy. You earned this shot.

McQUEEN:
Thank you. I’m ready. I’m beyond ready. This season made me who I am as a driver. Now it’s time to take the next step.

[OUTRO]

DALE JR:
Logan McQueen III, Truck Series champion, ten wins, and now the newest face in the Xfinity Series. What a story.

Thank y’all for listening to the Dale Jr. Download. We’ll see you next week.

MIKE DAVIS:
And Logan... go get ‘em next year. We’ll be watching.

McQUEEN:
I won’t let you down.
