good win doe. doesn't bode well for the playoffs that they kept it so close tho
i won't count it as a win or a loss

and yeah, no portal definitely hurting our depth when guys are down for a drive or two

I would have lost with you not covering the spread anyways.

Giving the ball to your best player should always be the plan but coaches like to overthink things.
that backdoor cover was brutal lmao

The Victory Lap: What's the panic level after the last two games, ACC implications and Manu Toomer is a really good football player

You know the standard has been raised at Stanford when the Cardinal are 9-1, one win away from making the ACC Championship Game and yet, the folks in Palo Alto are feeling a little bit queasy about their football team after two narrow wins over ACC cellar dwellers.

Since the Miami game, the Cardinal have narrowly escaped defeat and have shown some cracks in their foundation. The defense struggled against Wake Forest and couldn't get off the field and then against North Carolina State, it was the offense's turn to stumble and struggle to get it going.

We haven't seen a complete game since Miami and perhaps the late bye is a function of that. They've also been in bad weather the last two weeks, playing teams that have nothing to lose that have outplayed their talent.

What's the upside? They play a rival in California that despite their 3-8 record, Stanford should be plenty juiced to play them after getting upset last year at home and then they end the season hosting Oklahoma with a chance to knock out Bubba Mack's alma mater from the playoff race. No more sleepy starts, no more sleepy games.

The ACC Championship Game is within grasp
Clemson and Miami stayed alive in the ACC race with their wins this past weekend, putting Stanford right within the crosshairs, once more, for a late season collapse like last year when they lost to Cal which kept them out of the playoffs as they lost the tiebreaker to Pittsburgh and SMU which had the same conference record.

Clemson has already wrapped up their conference schedule for the year so unless Stanford losses to Cal, they are out. Should Stanford lose, even with the head to head, Clemson would beat out Miami and Stanford.

The simple math for Stanford to make it to the ACC Championship Game would be to beat Cal.

Manu Toomer is making himself a lot of money
Toomer took home the ACC Defensive Player of the Week after his seven tackles for loss performance against North Carolina State, one of the best games of his career.

On the season, Toomer had ninety-six tackles with twenty-six tackles and five sacks with three interceptions. He's a semi-finalist for Bednarik Award, Nagurski Trophy and Butkus Award and if it was an honest award, he should honestly be considered for the Heisman.

Toomer has been a great player for the Cardinal and the heart and soul of a defense that responded from the debacle against Wake Forest in a major way.

Stanford lands four commitments over the weekend as class jumps into top sixty
Chris Wallace -- 247Sports Stanford Football Insider

It's been a slow and quiet cycle for the Stanford Cardinal on the recruiting trail but things heated up last weekend as Stanford added four new commits to their recruiting class in four-star offensive tackle Carl Shakir, four star running back Trevon Winbush, four-star center Jeffrey Redman and three-star cornerback Trevante Punga.

The most intriguing might be Winbush whose commitment could be seen as perhaps an indication that the Cardinal's hunt for five-star running back Malik Marshall might result in a familiar loss to Notre Dame, who Marshall visited last weekend. Winbush is a talented player in his own right with good vision and contact balance despite being on the smaller side at 180 pounds with good top end speed. They edged out Penn State for his commitment.

The highest ranked of the four is Shakir, who was also being recruited by Penn State and Clemson. Shakir is a top sixty prospect and a punishing blocker at six-foot-seven and 313 pounds who projects to be a right tackle. He fits right into what Stanford wants in their offensive tackles in a long, athletic frame with plenty of power.

Redman is on the other spectrum, a bit undersized at 286 pounds but is a great technician and while he currently plays left tackle at the high school level, he projects to playing center at the college level where his physical limitations are less of a hindrance although with his athleticism, if he can put on some weight, guard might also be an option for him. They beat out Penn State for the Indiana native, another great win for the staff.

Miami finalizes deal to join Big Ten as ACC faces potential collapse
Michael Harrell

The University of Miami has finalized an agreement to join the Big Ten Conference, positioning itself to depart the Atlantic Coast Conference as the league braces for a wave of exits that could effectively end its modern era. Miami’s move comes amid expectations that the SEC will extend formal invitations to Florida State and Clemson in the coming days, accelerating a realignment shift that has loomed over the ACC for the past six years.

The Hurricanes are set to officially join the Big Ten prior to the start of the 2031 academic year, aligning the program with one of the sport’s most financially powerful leagues as the ACC’s long-standing grant of rights nears expiration. While the ACC’s media deal technically runs through 2036, the grant of rights restrictions begin to loosen significantly after 2030 — a structural flaw that member schools have increasingly viewed as an exit ramp.

Miami becomes the latest program to maneuver toward stability as the ACC’s future grows more uncertain by the week. With Florida State and Clemson all but gone and the SEC preparing to finalize their additions, other members have already begun exploring options. California has held early discussions with the Pac-12, sources told the AP, eyeing a return to a rebuilt western conference. SMU, added to the ACC just years ago, has engaged in conversations with the Big 12 about a potential landing spot should the league dissolve.

The ACC, meanwhile, appears poised for an existential inflection point. If Florida State and Clemson finalize their SEC jump as expected, and if schools like Miami, California, and SMU secure new conference homes, the league could soon be left with only a fraction of its membership — and little leverage to survive in its current form.

Image LB David Kasa (Junior) Torn Rotator Cuff (Out)
Image C Carlos Crozier (Senior) Broken Tailbone (Season)

Players to Watch
Image QB Marco Crook (R-Sr) | 6′1", 200LBS | 79 OVR, 71 SPD, 86 ACC, 80 AWR, 81 THP, 81 SAC, 78 MAC, 80 DAC
Crook has had some bright spots with four touchdowns against Georgia Tech and had back-to-back 300-yards against Florida State and Virginia but turnovers have been the issue with three multi interception games, including four against FIU and three against SMU. His limited physical tools will be tested against a Stanford defense that loves to bring pressure but will be without their top nickel option in Kentrell Marvin.

Image WR Joey Lobato (R-Jr) | 6′3", 218LBS | 91 OVR, 93 SPD, 96 ACC, 90 COD, 91 CTH, 99 RLS
Lobato had a 75-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter last season to help upset Cal. He's a big body receiver that can take off the top of a defense, evident in last year's game. Lobato has been an uber productive receiver with back-to-back 900-yard seasons heading into this year where he's had some big games against Georgia Tech, Florida International and Virginia Tech.

Image LB Maurice Mamula (R-Jr) | 6′3", 219LBS | 90 OVR, 88 SPD, 93 ACC, 88 PRC, 87 TKL, 87 BSH, 71 MCV, 91 ZCV
Trumaine Lasike is expected to a full participant in this game, so is Anthony Masifilo so stopping the run game will be a top priority for the Bears if they're going to upset the Cardinal. They had big games from Brian Garcia and Sam Mahelona last year but the star of the defense this season has been Mamula. The North Texas transfer has eighty-two tackles and five pass breakups this season.
