Cleveland, OH - The Cleveland Browns released Quinshon Judkins as part of their roster cutdown at the end of the preseason. On Sunday, the former Ohio State Buckeye made his former team pay dearly.

Judkins rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns, fueling a 52-14 Steelers blowout that sent Pittsburgh into its bye week with a perfect 6-0 record and sole possession of first place in the AFC North.

The game didn't start ideally for Pittsburgh. DK Metcalf fumbled on the opening drive, giving Cleveland prime field position and a chance to seize early momentum. But from that point forward, the Steelers were in complete control.

Pittsburgh posted 28 first-half points, including Judkins' first touchdown against his former team — a 7-yard bruising run that showcased the physical style that made him a fan favorite in Cleveland before the Browns inexplicably cut him loose.

Despite the offensive onslaught, the Steelers led by just 14 points at halftime after Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders connected on a pair of touchdown passes, including a spectacular 50-yard bomb at the end of the second quarter that gave Cleveland a glimmer of hope heading into the locker room.

The Browns received the second-half kickoff, primed for the coveted double-dip opportunity to surge back into the contest and make it a game. Instead, Pittsburgh's defense delivered a statement.

Two of the Steelers' six second-half sacks ended Cleveland's opening drive of the third quarter, and from there, the rout was on. The Browns never threatened again.

Two kickoff fumbles and a fourth-quarter fumble by Sanders turned an already lopsided game into a complete disaster for Cleveland. The turnovers gave Pittsburgh short fields repeatedly, and the Steelers' offense took full advantage.

Judkins capped the scoring late in the fourth quarter, breaking free for a long touchdown run while Pittsburgh was ostensibly running out the clock. The score pushed the margin to 38 points and put an exclamation point on his revenge performance.

When asked about the late touchdown, head coach Mike Tomlin indicated it wasn't intentional but wouldn't criticize Judkins for finding the end zone.

"It was an emotional game for him, and while the instructions were to stay in bounds and run the clock, I can't blame him for housing it," Tomlin said with a slight smile.

The Steelers head into their bye week at 6-0 after securing one of their most complete victories of the young season. The defense recorded ten sacks, forced three turnovers, and limited Cleveland to just 14 points. The offense, meanwhile, put up 52 points despite the early fumble and multiple opportunities to take their foot off the gas.

For Judkins, the performance validated Pittsburgh's decision to claim him off waivers after Cleveland's puzzling decision to release him. His three-touchdown outburst was the perfect response to the team that deemed him expendable, and his emergence as a red-zone weapon has taken pressure off Kaleb Johnson, who continues to struggle with ball security amid another fumble in the blowout.

Pittsburgh returns from the bye in Week 8 to face the Baltimore Ravens, looking to extend their perfect record and continue their march toward another AFC North title.

Anthony Richardson Inks Six Year, $370 Million Dollar Extension To Remain In Pittsburgh

Image

Pittsburgh, PA. - The Anthony Richardson extension saga is over.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and their reigning MVP quarterback reached agreement on a six-year, $370 million contract extension during the bye week, the team announced Monday. The deal keeps Richardson in the Steel City through the 2032 season and makes him one of the highest-paid players in NFL history.

Both sides had affirmed earlier this season that they had mutual interest in extending Richardson's time in Pittsburgh, making the deal not a matter of if, but when. After weeks of negotiations that intensified following similar extensions around the league, the two sides found common ground.

The extension comes on the heels of a flurry of massive quarterback deals that reset the market. CJ Stroud signed a six-year, $352 million extension with Houston several weeks ago, establishing a new baseline for elite young quarterbacks. Then, just last week, Lamar Jackson shattered records with a stunning $455 million deal with Baltimore.

While Richardson's contract didn't reach Jackson's unprecedented heights, it easily surpassed Stroud's figure and Drake Maye's five-year, $260 million extension with New England. The deal solidifies Richardson as one of the NFL's premier signal-callers and rewards him for his transformative impact in his first season with the Steelers.

"Happy to stay in this great city!" Richardson posted on his Instagram story after the announcement, captioning a photo of himself and head coach Mike Tomlin hoisting the Lombardi Trophy following last season's Super Bowl victory.

GM Omar Khan emphasized that the deal was structured with both short-term flexibility and long-term planning in mind. The contract compensates Richardson for his immediate value while also positioning him to cash in again when he's still in his prime.

"This deal compensates Anthony for his ability, allows us to have some flexibility around him, but also sets him up for one more prime payday in his career," Khan said during Monday's press conference.

The six-year term means Richardson will be 31 when the contract expires — still young enough to command another massive deal if he continues performing at an elite level. The structure also gives Pittsburgh the cap flexibility to retain key pieces like center Zach Frazier and linebacker Payton Wilson, both of whom are seeking extensions of their own.

While specific contract details haven't been released, league sources indicate the deal includes significant guaranteed money in the early years with cap hits that escalate gradually, allowing the Steelers to remain competitive in free agency over the next several seasons.

When reached for comment after practice Tuesday, Richardson expressed relief that the negotiations were resolved during the bye week, preventing the extension from becoming a lingering distraction during Pittsburgh's Super Bowl defense.

"Now that it's done, time to get back to ballin'," the 25-year-old said with a smirk.

The timing couldn't be better. The Steelers return from their bye in Week 8 to face the Baltimore Ravens in what looms as an early-season defining clash. Both teams enter the matchup undefeated, and with Jackson fresh off his record-setting extension and Richardson now locked in long-term, the quarterback duel carries added significance.

Richardson's journey to this moment has been anything but conventional. After a tumultuous stint in Indianapolis that saw him benched and eventually traded, many questioned whether he could ever realize his immense physical potential. The Steelers gave him that second chance, and Richardson responded with an MVP season that culminated in a Super Bowl championship.

Now, he's rewarded with generational wealth and the opportunity to cement his legacy in Pittsburgh. For a franchise that struggled to find stability at quarterback following Ben Roethlisberger's retirement, Richardson's extension represents far more than just a contract — it's a declaration that the position is finally settled for the foreseeable future.

The perfect season continues. The quarterback is locked in. And the championship window remains wide open.

Pittsburgh and Baltimore kick off Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET at Acrisure Stadium in a game that could provide an early preview of the AFC Championship Game.
