Ward's Interception Doom Titans Against Texans on Monday Night
Cam Ward's third interception would prove to be a fatal one, ending all hopes of a Tennessee Titans comeback victory over their AFC South rivals as the Houston Texans hung on to a 31-28 victory on Monday night.
Tennessee had two chances to force overtime with a field goal late in the fourth quarter, once with the ball on the Texans' 8-yard line with a minute left but they were stopped short on third and one and opted to go for it, which resulted in Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair knocking the ball loose from running back Mark Fletcher.
Armed with all three timeouts, Tennessee was able to get the ball back with 51 seconds left and the ball on the Texans 49-yard line, only needing a first down to get within Brandon Aubrey's field goal range but on the first place, Ward misfired on a dump off pass to Jam Miller which landed in the waiting arms of Al-Shaair for Ward's this interception of the day.
Ward, for the second week in a row, seemed poise to lead another feverish comeback effort after his two turnovers in the first half put the Titans in an early 17-7 hole. Even after a fifteen play drive to make it 24-14 seemed to take the air out of the Titans crowd in the third quarter, Ward led a quick six play drive, including completions of 20 and 26 yards to Darnell Washington and Justin Jefferson, before finding Jefferson for the touchdown to make it a one score game heading into the fourth.
Jefferson had a monster night with the Texans missing top cornerback Derek Stingley, catching thirteen passes for 196 yards and a touchdown.
