The Victory Lap: It's just Baylor, injury update on Chauncey Ankrah and brace yourself for heartbreak

Repeat after me: it's just Baylor, it's just Baylor, it's just Baylor. But, really though, Stanford looked pretty damn good on Saturday.

As impressive as the scoreboard was, covering the spread nearly six times over, the performance and how Stanford looked on the field is what should give Cardinal fans confidence heading into the Florida game. Earl Nienhuis looked even better than advertised and throughout the offseason, if you've been paying attention, it's been clear that the coaching staff really thought that they could have something special in him if they could unlock his potential and talent.

Former five-star nickel Kentrell Marvin looks like a potential superstar and was all over the field and the young guys on offense, especially Trevon Winbush, showed a lot of juice that should hold up well even when the competition stiffens.

Chauncey Ankrah's injury will test the depth of the cornerback room
The only negative from Saturday was Ankrah leaving the game with a leg injury and it looked serious, needing assistance to get off the field. Stanford coach Bubba Mack was vague after the game but based on his comments and more importantly tenor, Stanford's second most experienced cornerback is probably going to be out for a while.

We saw the Cardinal rotate both Benjamin Streeter and Juan Becht following the injury and Streeter is probably the most likely replacement as he would slide into that nickel role, which he's played before, and bump Marvin out to the boundary to replace Ankrah.

Becht is a sneaky option as a true sophomore and more equipped to play on the outside than Streeter is, allowing Stanford to keep Marvin in the slot.

Stanford picks up their first Crystal Ball for George Ogbonnaya
Stop me if you're heard this before: Stanford is trending positively for a five-star prospect.

To be fair to the Cardinal's coaching staff and recruiting department, they ultimately closed on Malik Marshall but after that long journey, it's understandable while fans might be skeptical of the buzz that Stanford has picked up in recent weeks regarding the recruitment the five-star quarterback, with an Alabama 247Sports insider logging a Crystal Ball in Stanford's favor to land Ogbonnaya.

The Tide were the early favorites in his recruitment but over the last six months, it's been mostly in-state Texas, Texas A&M and TCU that have garnered momentum with an outlier in Stanford. At this point, it's clear that if Ogbonnaya is comfortable leaving his home state, Stanford might be the winner but that's a big if.

Ogbonnaya is the number two ranked quarterback in the country and would be the most talented quarterback, by far, that Mack has landed and that Stanford has signed, out of high school, since probably David Mills and potentially Andrew Luck.

Week 2 Preview: vs. #8 Florida Gators
Last Year's Record: 10-3, 5-3 SEC
Record: 1-0
Head Coach: Billy Napier
Offensive Scheme: Power Spread
Defensive Scheme: 3-3-5 Tite

Team Schedule
vs. North Carolina (0-1): W 34-17

Team Leaders
Passing: Terrence Urbik 58 cmp%, 221 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 134 passer rating
Rushing: Melo Townsend 153 yards, 6.1 ypc, 3 TD
Receiving: George Ball 8 receptions, 124 yards, 1 TD
Defense: Barry Beach 8 tackles, TFL, 0.5 sack, INT

Injuries
Image CB Chauncey Ankrah (Senior) Quad Tear (Out)

Players to Watch
Image QB Terrence Urbik (R-Soph) | 6′2″, 205LBS | 85 OVR, 90 SPD, 88 ACC, 91 COD, 72 AWR, 96 THP, 88 SAC, 86 MAC, 84 DAC
The Lafayette native got his Gator career off to a great start against the Tar Heels, avoiding making mistakes and managing the game. The jury is still out on his playmaking abilities but the physical tools are there for Urbik. We saw Baylor's quarterbacks be able to extend plays and find chunk plays across the middle and Urbik is more talented than both of the quarterbacks Stanford saw last week and has more weapons around him.

Image WR Clayton Higgins (R-Soph) | 5′7″, 194LBS | 88 OVR, 94 SPD, 98 ACC, 92 COD, 77 CTH, 85 RLS
A lot of the focus will go towards George Ball and with good reason as the fifth-year senior was nearly a 1,000-yard receiver for the Gators last season and is already off to a great starter after an eight catch, 124-yard performance in the opener with a touchdown. With so much focus on Ball, Higgins could be in for a big day as Stanford is down one of their top corners and Higgins is a speedster that, if given space, could take a play for six.

Image LB J.T. Brazell (R-Sr) | 6′0″, 227LBS | 96 OVR, 90 SPD, 93 ACC, 97 PRC, 90 TKL, 78 BSH, 78 MCV, 86 ZCV
Florida features a pretty light front with two defensive ends that are in the 230-pound range and instead lean on their linebacker to take care of the running game. The Miami transfer is an instinctive playmaker that has a nose for the football and can generate some turnovers with three last season, along with seven tackles for loss. He'll be key in taking away the middle of the field, an area that Stanford loves to attack with Rodney Cookus on those inbreaking routes.

Hard Rock Bet™
Spread: Florida -2.5
Moneyline: Stanford +115
Over: 59.5

Place your bets and I'll keep track of your winnings/loss throughout the season. At the end of the year, I'll either name a recruit after you or give your favorite team a ratings' bump or dealers' choice.

Stanford win, cover and the over. The momentum from that week one win will carry the Earl.

Stanford win and to cover. One would hope you wouldn’t lose to Billy Napier.

Stanford and the Under.

Need that 5star QB. I feel like that’s the one position Stanford has always recruited well.
