MEMPHIS, Tenn - Luka Doncic had 36 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in his return to the Lakers lineup after missing the last three games and the Lakers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 112-107 on Friday night in the opening game of the NBA Cup for each team.

Austin Reaves continued his hot start to the season, scoring 23 points and dishing out six assists. Marcus Smart finished with 14 points and seven assists and Jake LaRavia, returning to play the team that drafted him had 12 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 26 points each to lead Memphis and Jock Landale added 16 points and 12 rebounds. Morant also had a team high eight assists.

The Lakers continued to play without LeBron James, who is dealing with a right sciatica.

Both teams had significant runs before it settled into a closely played game. Memphis put up 37 points in the second quarter enroute to taking the lead at halftime, 62-58. The Lakers, down by five heading into the fourth quarter, scored 33 points and held the Grizzlies to 22, in order to take home the victory.

The Lakers remain undefeated on the road this season by winning their third straight.

LOS ANGELES (CA) Luka Doncic had a season-high 59 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists, Austin Reaves scored 26 points, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Miami Heat 139-123 on Sunday night to extend their winning streak to three games.

Bam Adebayo scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Heat and Andrew Wiggins added 19 points.

The Lakers scored a season high 89 points in the first half.

The Lakers won't have much time to enjoy this win. They are right back on the road heading north to take on the Trail Blazers in the second game of a back-to-back.

PORTLAND, Ore. - Nick Smith Jr. scored 27 points, hitting 7-of-14 from the field and go a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line and Daulton Knecht finished with 21 points and nine rebounds and Rui Hachimura scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Lakers to a 97-88 win over the Portland Trail Blazers without Luka Doncic, LeBron James and Austin Reaves.

Deni Avdija led the Blazers with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists, but the Blazers struggled from the field finishing the game at 38% (37-of-97) and 16% from the three-point line (5-of-32).

For the Lakers it was their fourth straight win and they will get ready to face their first real challenge in the early season when they host the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.

LOS ANGELES (CA)Luka Doncic had 40 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and one steal, and the Los Angeles Lakers were able to hold off the Spurs in the final minutes of a close game for their fifth consecutive victory, 106-101.

The Lakers made 11-of-12 free throws in the final minute of the game after the Spurs cut the lead down to a two points, 95-93. Doncic, Smart, Ayton and LaRavia each went to the free throw line with under a minute to go in the game knocked down each free throw, but one.

The Lakers increased their lead to 101-93 after Doncic, Smart and Ayton all knocked two free throws after the Spurs started fouling intentionally. Harrison Barnes hit a three-pointer that cut the Lakers lead to four, 102-98 with 18 seconds left in the game. Jake LaRavia knocked two free throws to give the Lakers a 104-98 lead with seven seconds left. Julian Champagnie hit a three-pointer was time was winding down to cut the lead to three, 104-101, but the Spurs had run out of timeouts and time after fouling Marcus Smart on the inbounds pass. Smart would knock down both free throws with one second left.

Doncic hit 12-of-23 shots from the field and 15-of-23 from the free throw line. Jake LaRavia finished the game with 21 points, four rebounds and six assists. Marcus Smart, Rui Hachimura and Jaxson Hayes each finished the game with 10 points a piece. The Lakers as a team were 31-for-41 from the free throw line.

Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 26 points, hitting 10-of-18 shots, but fouled out in the final minute of the game. Keldon Johnson and Jeremy Sochan each scored 15 points off the bench and Stephon Castle had 13 points along with six assists and a career high seven steals. This was the Spurs second consecutive loss after opening up their season winning their first five games.

The Lakers are set to begin a five game road that begins on Saturday in Atlanta with stops in Charlotte, Oklahoma City, New Orleans and Milwaukee.

Hawks soar past Lakers

ATLANTA (GA) - Asa Newell scored a career-high 22 points, Dyson Daniels missed a near triple-double, 17 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and the banged-up Atlanta Hawks beat the Los Angeles Lakers 117-88 on Saturday to even their record at 5-5.

The Hawks by 32 points despite playing without three of their five starters. All-Star Trae Young was sidelined with an MCL sprain. Nickeil-Alexander Walker, Nikola Durisic, Jalen Johnson and Kristaps Porzingis were also inactive.

Yet the Hawks led 37-22 after one quarter behind 11 points from Okongwu, who also had nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

The Lakers made a comeback in the second quarter, cutting the Hawks lead to six at halftime, 60-54.

By the end of the third quarter, the Hawks were up 20 points - having held the Lakers to just six third quarter points.

Atlanta held Lakers star Luka Doncic, averaging 39 points this season, to 24 points. He also had six rebounds, four assists and was 13 for 13 from the free throw line. Doncic was done for the night halfway through the third quarter.

Zaccharie Risacher, Onyeka Okongwu, Keaton Wallace, Daniels and Gueye started for the Hawks. Risacher led the Hawks with 25 points.

LeBron James, Christian Koloko, Chris Manon, Austin Reaves and Gabe Vincent were out for the Lakers.
