MEMPHIS, Tenn - Luka Doncic had 36 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in his return to the Lakers lineup after missing the last three games and the Lakers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 112-107 on Friday night in the opening game of the NBA Cup for each team.
Austin Reaves continued his hot start to the season, scoring 23 points and dishing out six assists. Marcus Smart finished with 14 points and seven assists and Jake LaRavia, returning to play the team that drafted him had 12 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 26 points each to lead Memphis and Jock Landale added 16 points and 12 rebounds. Morant also had a team high eight assists.
The Lakers continued to play without LeBron James, who is dealing with a right sciatica.
Both teams had significant runs before it settled into a closely played game. Memphis put up 37 points in the second quarter enroute to taking the lead at halftime, 62-58. The Lakers, down by five heading into the fourth quarter, scored 33 points and held the Grizzlies to 22, in order to take home the victory.
The Lakers remain undefeated on the road this season by winning their third straight.
