Preseason camp was hella tough. But got to say I really needed it. As did the other guys. Got some nice chemistry going on with the guys after some good team bonding all week long. Eddy Curry still has some game. Now that he’s working on getting back in shape, I think he’s gonna play very strong for us this year. Demetris Nihcols and Mickael Gelabale are having one major battle for the starting 3 spot. Both were really lighting up on the court all camp long. We really have 2 star players right there.
At point guard we have Patrick Beverley and Jared Jordan. Although Jordan is the more experienced of the two, I just think Patrick impressed more this camp. His better shooting stroke seems to be giving him the edge. Their quickness and court vision seems pretty even otherwise.
At shooting guard, Allan Ray looks to have the starting spot sown down. His shooting and floor spacing is incredible. He played a little in Europe last year and his fundamentals have really improved. Alex Acker and Julius Hodge bring some more experience, but not the all-around ability Allan possesses.
At small forward I mentioned the intense battle earlier. Both men are over 6’7”, can shoot, defend and drive to the cup. I think I need to toss a coin to see who starts!! Whoever loses this battle is sure to be 6th man though.
At power forward, it’s between myself and Marcus Landry. I have a height and weight advantage, and also an experience advantage over Marcus. Nevertheless, I will be delighted to get the coaches nod here. We were pretty even all week, Marcus rebounded slightly better than me, but I really scored heavily all week. I’d be disappointed not to be starting tomorrow.
At center we’ve got Eddy Curry and the rook, Pete Morrison. Curry has his spot nailed down, but big Pete certainly pushed him hard all week. Pete will give us valuable minutes off the bench, until Eddy gets in better shape. Both these guys are great to work with in the post. Had some strong games with Curry, he really is a beast on the block!
Time to get some sleep now, game no 1 vs. the Austin Toros tomorrow at home. Wonder if the Portland Expo building will be full………..
