A Class for the Ages? SMU’s 2030 Recruiting Haul Has the Look of Something Special
By Cheryl Smith

DALLAS -- Great programs win games. Elite programs win championships. Generational programs win on the recruiting trail before Saturdays ever arrive.

SMU may be crossing that final threshold.

With the commitment of five-star MIKE linebacker Eli Nall out of Oxford, Missouri, the Mustangs' 2030 recruiting class has officially entered rare air - the kind of territory typically reserved for college football's blue-blood royalty such as Alabama and USC. Nall joined an already loaded class featuring three other five-stars in wide receivers Kenyon Natson and free safeties Taylor Stick and Alex Longoria.

Four five-stars. And counting.

"This class is starting to define what SMU wants to be for the next decade," former legendary head coach Nick Saban said on ESPN Gameday. "It's not just talent - it's roster balance, leadership, and fit."

At 6-feet, 238 pounds, Nall is a smidge smaller than the prototype MIKE linebacker, but his traits are still superb - instinctive, physical, and vocal. Never found a player he didn't want to hit. He plays downhill with violence, diagnoses plays instantly, and thrives in traffic. Recruiting services rave about his football IQ as much as his athleticism, projecting him as a future defensive quarterback at the college level able to replace incumbent superstar SMU MIKE linebacker Kevin Lockridge.

For a program that already prides itself on defensive structure and physicality, Nall feels like a foundational piece.

"Linebackers like Eli don't come around often," said defensive coordinator Kerry Abraham. "He makes everyone else better."

Nall's commitment only strengthens a class already bursting with star power. Beyond the five-stars, the Mustangs have stacked critical depth with high-upside four-star prospects.

Kordell Reddick, an edge rusher from Virginia Beach, VA, adds burst and length to SMU's pass rush rotation. At 6-foot-5, 229 pounds, his incredible length and incredible foot speed is going to provide SMU with a solid Josh Mingo-replacement when the stud defensive edge rusher graduates.

Dwayne Sowells is a four-star running back home run hitter with incredible north/south speed that will immediately compliment the incumbent Brian Volson/Justice Spielman connection. "Going to SMU was immediately where I knew I was going to end up. The class they building over there in Dallas, I knew I wanted to be a part of it."

Stephen Barmore, a four-star offensive guard, bolsters an already-young and talented offensive line group that has offensive tackle Ethan Whitehead already anchoring their talented line. Also coming in is JUCO sophomore Bryce Lewis, a three-star guard out of Cypress, Texas, making the jump to D1, who figures to add depth to SMU's impressive pass protection.

The geography matters almost as much as the talent.

SMU isn't just dominating Texas pipelines anymore - they're reaching into the Midwest, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Northeast, evidence of a program growing national appeal. Recruits aren't choosing SMU just by proximity. They're choosing it by belief.

The scariest part?

This class might not be finished.

SMU remains firmly entrenched in contention for five-star running back Avery Knowles and five-star cornerback Henry Malik - two prospects who could push this haul from elite to downright absurd. If both commit, the Mustangs would be staring at one of the most talent-rich classes of the modern recruiting era.

Knowles is teetering between SMU and Ohio State, and is actually in Dallas on his official visit this weekend as SMU hosts Georgia Tech. Malik is still weighing options between Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and SMU, with a visit to SMU scheduled next week in their season finale where they host Michigan State.

"This could be the class people point to years from now," one recruiting insider said. "The moment SMU stopped knocking on the door and kicked it in."

In the span of just a few seasons, SMU has gone from rising contender to national power - winning on the field, commanding respect off it, and now assembling a recruiting class that looks capable of sustaining success well into the next decade.

The 2030 class isn't just highly ranked.

It feels generational.

More shocking than anything. Our usual plays just wasn't going. They eventually broke though.

The future belongs to SMU. Great recruiting class to mix in with the talent you already have. This is a dynasty in the making.

SN - I hate the mouthguards that look like pacifiers like what in the breastfed bitch shit is that

I understand the concept of protecting more of their lips etc, but they couldn't have made them without making them look like giant babies? :katt:

The pacifier specific ones (like the one DK Metcalf used to wear) are certainly goofy, but I loved the mouthguards with lip covers, respectfully.
