At least whenever someone is feeling bad about their season, they can come here to feel better. This team is jinxed.
You say that and I'm still in the hunt for a bowl game.

Passing: Luke Kromenhoek, SO(RS) - 130/214, 1,175 yards, 10 TD, 8 INT
:soapy:
He has played well the last several games. I think it has been like 3 or so games since he threw an interception.

What a game by Tank Hawkins. Great name too. Get him involved more, he seems like a playmaker.

Tank has been a great player for us, we just don't pass the ball as much. When we do he gets touches and makes plays.

Derion Gullette leads Bulldogs named as award finalists
Rob Stock – Bulldog Report

Image
Gullette tracks down a ball carrier against Appalachian State

As the college football season begins to wind down, the finalists for the college football awards have been announced. The Mississippi State Bulldogs have three players nominated for a total of five awards. Linebacker Derion Gullette is a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and the Dick Butkus Award. The Chuck Bednarik and Bronko Nagurski awards are both for the nation's top defensive player, and the Dick Butkus award is for the nation's top linebacker. Running back A'marion Peterson is a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, which is given to the nation's top running back. Lastly, receiver Tank Hawkins is a finalist for the Jet award, given to the nation's top special teams returner.

A redshirt junior from Marlin, Texas, Derion Gullette has found success taking over the role as the starting Mike linebacker for the Bulldogs. Gullette had 62 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and 1 interception last year in his playing time. This year, he has collected 112 tackles, 33 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, and a forced fumble. Gullette is third in the NCAA and second in the SEC, behind teammate Peyton Bowen, for total tackles. His 33 tackles for loss are almost three times as many as the runner-up in that statistic. His 5 sacks are just 1 off the NCAA lead, and he is the top sack getter in the SEC. This just shows the terror that Gullette has caused for opposing offenses this season.

A'marion Peterson took over the starting role this season after transferring in from UTSA. He has seen significant playing time this season compared to last and has collected 1,158 rushing yards on 190 attempts with 7 rushing touchdowns. He has also shown to be a threat out of the backfield, catching 31 passes for 363 yards and 3 touchdowns. Peterson is 10th in national rushing yards and 7th nationally in yards per game. Peterson doesn't lead categories like Gullette does, but that is partly due to not having played as many games as the other running backs due to injury. Peterson has been in the national conversation for the Heisman trophy all season until his ankle injury kept him out, which ended his campaign. Regardless, he has been tough for opposing defenses to handle all season, and the Bulldogs will be enthused if they can get him to return next season.

Tank Hawkins is also a transfer from Florida to the Bulldogs this season and has made his name known in the special teams aspect of the game. He has 330 yards on 29 punt returns and 1 punt return touchdown. He also has 362 yards on 18 kick returns and 1 kick return touchdown as well. His returns have injected energy into the Bulldogs in several different games. In the latest game against Appalachian State, his punt return touchdown put the Bulldogs ahead and served as the catalyst for 28 unanswered points, ultimately leading to a Bulldog rout. He also has 334 yards on 26 catches for 4 touchdowns, tied for the Bulldogs' lead. Needless to say, his impact has been significant on the Bulldogs this season.

All these players are showing the best that the Bulldogs can bring to the national stage. Regardless of who actually wins the awards, this goes to show that the Bulldogs are starting to turn the corner, with some of their players getting national recognition.

Nice article. Gullette doubling his tackles and improving his TFLs by four times as much is a heck of an improvement. Hopefully he stays for next year too.
