Tennessee shut out in the second half amidst offensive woes in loss to Jets
The Tennessee Titans had multiple chances to take the lead in the second half against the New York Jets, twice getting the ball in the redzone but were unable to finish the job as the Jets held on for the 26-17 win to improve to an AFC best 8-1.
The Titans turned it over on downs four times against the Jets, going 0-for-4 on their fourth down attempts, including Mark Fletcher Jr. being stopped four yards behind the line of scrimmage on fourth and one from the Jets 40-yard line when the Titans could have cut the lead to three pionts.
They would get another crack at it on their next drive after an eight yard scramble by Cam Ward on third and six kept the drive alive following by a 26-yard completion to Justin Jefferson. Ward would pick up another first down with his legs and get the ball to the Jets 7-yard line where his pass to Jefferson was knocked down at the line of scrimmage on fourth down.
Tennessee would get deep into Jets territory once more early in the fourth quarter with a 32-yard completion to Jefferson but on third and six from the Jets 12-yard line, Caleb Downs would jar the ball loose from Chimere Dike and on fourth down, the completion to Elic Ayomanor would be a yard short.
Arch Manning and the Jets finally led a scoring drive of their own with five minutes left as Jake Elliott's field goal made it a nine point game and the game seemed over after the Titans felt to convert a desperate fourth and twenty two but Manning would be intercepted by Whit Weeks on the ensuing drive.
The renewed hope would be short lived as Ward was intercepted by Will McDonald IV on an attempted throw away.
