CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK

Coastal Carolina defeated Old Dominion (39-26) to win the CUSA title. CCU finished the season 11-2 Overall

#13 Arkansas State defeated Nevada (27-24) to win their 2nd straight MWC title finishing (12-1) Overall but will it be enough to hear their name come Selection Sunday.

#14 Miami OH did the same defeating Kent State (41-20) to win the Mac and finish (12-1) but they too are on the Bubble.

#15 La Tach defeated UAB (52-27) to win the Sun Belt and also finish (12-1) but like ASU and Miami OH look like they are on the list of First 4 left out.

#23 FIU defeated Miss State to win the American Conference Championship (35-31) finishing their season (11-2) Overall but like Coastal Carolina it's just to enough to make the playoffs.

Boise State makes the most of getting into the Pac-12 Championship coming away with a (41-27) win over Stanford as they secure not only the Championship but a spot in the playoffs. The Cardinals drop to #11 in the rankings and appear to be in but we will wait find out.

#5 Colorado defeated SMU (31-23) to win the Big 12 title but it doesn't appear that it will be enough to secure a Top-4 seed. We will see.

#4 Clemson defeats #2Tennessee (24-23) handing the Vols their first loss of the season.. They swap spots in the rankings as it appears Tennessee will still get a Top-4 seed despite the loss.

#1 Miami holds onto the top spot by beat NC State (24-10) to win the ACC..

#3 Oregon was ranked #22 just 3 weeks ago. Now they are Big Ten Champs after beating Ohio State (21-19) and a Top-4 seed in the playoffs. With the loss the Buckeyes dreams are over as they fall to #18 in the rankings.

2028 SELECTION SHOW

The rankings hold with no big surprises with the completion of Championship Week., as #1 Miami,, #2 Clemson, #3 Oregon and #4 Tennessee all secure Top-4 seeds and 1st Round Byes.

The biggest surprise this year is that (3) teams from the Pac-12 will complete for a shot at the National title after not having any teams in the playoffs last year, as #8 Stanford's loss to BSU doesn't cost them a spot just a chance to host as they drop to #11.

The biggest loser could be considered #5 Colorado who didn't move up a spot despite beating SMU to win the Big 12 title, however I think (12-1) Arkansas State, (12-1) Miami OH and (12-1) La Tech will tell you they are the biggest losers as all 3 Conference Champions are left out as they finish #13/14/15 in the rankings, however some also could say it's Stanford who will have to face Boise State in a rematch game in Boise for a chance to advance.

Here is the matchups.

#12 (10-2) Michigan State vs #5 (11-2) Colorado Winner will advance to take on #4 (12-1) Tennessee in the Cotton Bowl

#9 (10-2) Penn State vs #8 (10-2) Georgia.. Winner will advance to take on #1 (12-1) Miami in the Orange Bowl

#11 (10-3) Stanford vs #6 (12-1) Boise State.. Winner will advance to tak on #3 (11-2) Oregon in the Rose Bowl

#10 (10-2) Washington State vs #7 (10-2) Florida State.. Winner will advance to take on #2 (12-1) Clemson in the Sugar Bowl.

Had I been paying attention I would realized that BSU was the 1 team that beat Stanford and then would have understood that BSU would get the tie breaker despite me beating them.. I think it goes with win% which includes non-conference opponents and BSU had just 1 loss.. Or it might also factor in the ranking, as BSU was #7 vs me at #11. I don't know. I guess if I was really smart I would've made BSU lose to Cal in Week 13 or I should made Stanford lose to Cal back in Week 12 and then I could've had a rematch with BSU.

Oh well I still made the playoffs and I am actually pretty happy with my seed and first round opponent well the committee is making BSU and Stanford play each other again.

COUGARS PULL OFF UPSET OVER NOLES IN ROUND 1

The disappointment of not making it to the Pac-12 Championship game quickly faded away when WSU found themselves as the #10 seed scheduled for a trip to Tallahassee.

Coach Moore "
I think of alot worse places to have have to play a playoff road game then in Florida in the middle of the winter. Our Fans and our boys already feel like they won before they even took the field.. Have you ever been to Pullman in the winter."
Well WSU showed they could do more then just have a mental victory coming away with a victory in their first ever playoff appearance. The Cougars jumped out to a early (14-0) lead on a pair of touchdown pass's including a 80 yd strike to RB Clint Powell back from his 3 week stint on the IR, Powell once a Heisman Top-5 voter showed the nation he should be a #1 favorite next year.. Powell's return couldn't have come at a better time as WSU loses start RB Brevin Doll just 2 plays into the game after a 21 yd run in the opening series.

FSU would cut the lead in half making it (14-7) midway through the 2nd Quarter as SR RB Ousmane Kromah (94 ovr) scores on a 9 yd touchdown run with 5:31 to play in the half but WSU would extend the lead to (17-7) with 3:55 to play as Adlai Lounsbury connects on a 37 yd FG..

FSU had a chance to cut into the lead just before the half after Owens throws a INT but the Seminoles fail to convert the turnover into points as the 1st half comes to a close.

Both teams would struggle out of the gate in the 2nd half as Lounsbury fails to connect on a 52 yd FG to extend the Cougars lead and with 4:33 to play in the 3rd Quarter, FSU would make it (17-14) as SR QB Khalil Wikins (87) finds SR WR BJ Gibson (83) on a 31 yd touchdown strike.

WSU however answers back scoring on 9 plays in just a minute 21 as Owens finds Maxwell Woods out of the backfield on a 25 yd touchdown pass to make it (24-14) but with 35 seconds to play in the 3rd Quarter FSU makes it a 3 point game as Wilkins finds Osumane Kromah on a 25 yd score to make it (24-21) as we head to the 4th.

Coach Moore knew the Cougars would need a touchdown in the 4th if they had any chance to hold onto the lead and with 6:53 to play in the game Owens delivered his 4th touchdown of the game as he finds Cory Izien on a 29 yd score to extend the lead to (31-21).

FSU would settle for a 22 yd FG with 4:49 to play making it a touchdown difference (31-24).. Washington State known for their face pace high scoring offense would pull a 180 and slow things down as they looked limit the Seminoles comeback chances.

Facing a 4th and 2 with under 2 minutes to play, Coach Moore had a choice let Lounsbury try for a 53 yd FG, Punt or go for it knowing a 1st down would likely seal the victory. Moore went with the later but made a huge call to do it inserting backup QB Calvin Loyd to give the Cougars his scrambling abilities and Loyd delivered with a 9 yd run as WSU continues their drive before settling for a 45 yd FG less then a minute later as WSU takes the 10 point lead with 1:09 to play.

FSU out of timeouts had to throw the ball but on his 3rd attempt Wilkins is picked off by JR LB JOvan Clark as WSU takes over and runs out the clock.

OTHER 1ST ROUND RESULTS
#5 Colorado defeated #12 Michigan State (24-20) despite a subpar day from Lewis who throws for 234 yds with 2 TD and 1 INT. Colorado go 115 yds and a 60 yd touchdown from RB King Miller

#9 Penn State pulled off what I guess is a upset defeating #8 Georgia (40-35).. The Nittany Lions scored 20 points in both the 2nd Quarter and 4th Quarter after being shutout in the 1st and 3rd.

#6 Boise State makes it 3 in a row against the Cardinals with a (31-17) victory.. It was close at the half (17-14).. Tavien St Clair threw for 280 yds with 2 TD and Washington transfer Quad Carr had 89 yds on 11 carries and scored twice.. Sire Gaines was limited to just 33 yds on 8 carries.
