MVP favorite Anthony Richardson should be an untypable sentence.

we've also been sharing the load (AYO) at HB this season. Judkins has emerged as the starter, but both Kaleb Johnson and Keaton Mitchell have 300 or more yards too

As Texans' Chase History, Steelers Opt For Rest

Image

Pittsburgh, PA. - Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced on Friday that the team would sit a number of their starters for the season finale against the Buffalo Bills, including quarterback Anthony Richardson, while several other key contributors will see significantly reduced playing time. Will Howard is expected to get the start for the Steelers, although he will be without DK Metcalf in his first career start. Metcalf will be joining TJ Watt, Patrick Queen, and Alex Highsmith on the bench, while both Jalen Ramsey and Marlon Humphrey will see limited snaps.

"We're already locked into the No. 2 seed, win or loss, but with the new playoff seeding we won't be getting a first-round bye for our efforts. So we're essentially turning Week 18 into a scheduled bye for key players," Tomlin said about the decision. When asked how he views the Texans' taking the opposite approach, Tomlin acknowledged the differences.

"Houston is chasing history. They're 16-0 and looking to be the first team since expanded schedules to go 17-0 in the regular season. So while a win or a loss doesn't affect the standings, they're playing to make history."

The Houston Texans will travel to Nashville, Tennessee and face the 4-12 Titans, hoping to become the first team to go 17-0 in the regular season.

For his part, Richardson downplayed the impact of sitting out the season finale amid a potential MVP campaign as the current front runner.

"My resume for this season speaks for itself, so if they want to hold one game against me?" Richardson said with a shrug.

"Ultimately, we're chasing trophies."

After the up-and-down performance against the Cincinnati Bengals last week, and Tomlin's post-game comments about Richardson dealing with nagging injuries, many speculated if the team would risk playing Richardson in a "nothing" game simply to bolster a potential second MVP.

Now, the answer is clear. While the Texans chase perfection, the Steelers are playing the long game: their eighth Super Bowl championship

Pittsburgh, PA. - The Pittsburgh Steelers were down to their third-string quarterback and missing multiple starters, yet they found a way to stun the Buffalo Bills 29-23 in overtime, securing their 15th win of the season on a walk-off defensive touchdown.

When Joey Bosa sacked Will Howard midway through the fourth quarter, then scooped up the fumble and returned it for a touchdown, it felt like the Bills were finally going to take advantage of the shorthanded Steelers. That sentiment intensified when Howard came up clutching his right shoulder after the sack, knocking him out for the remainder of the game.

Alonza Barnett III, getting his first career playing time as a rookie, was sacked on third down, forcing the Steelers to punt to Josh Allen with the game tied at 20. It took just two throws for the momentum to swing back. Marlon Humphrey stepped in front of an errant Allen pass and hauled in the interception, setting Pittsburgh up in prime field position.
Quinshon Judkins and Keaton Mitchell combined for 25 yards on the ground, but a pair of offensive line injuries kept the Steelers from completely draining the clock. Still, Brandon Aubrey drilled a 36-yard field goal to give Pittsburgh a 23-20 lead with just over a minute remaining.

Josh Allen wasn't ready to go home. He atoned for the interception by going 3-for-5 on the final drive for 58 yards, setting up Ka'imi Fairbairn's third field goal to force overtime.

Allen and the Bills won the toss and went back to work, with Allen finding Nyck Harbor for 10 yards and Khalil Shakir for 12 more. But on second-and-8, Joshua Palmer took an out route and tried to gain extra yardage by turning the corner. Joey Porter Jr. made the initial tackle and stood Palmer up long enough for Humphrey to come from behind with the "peanut punch," dislodging the ball. Porter Jr. scooped it up and raced to the end zone with Allen in pursuit, celebrating as he crossed the goal line.

"It shows you how resilient this team is," Mike Tomlin said after the gutsy victory. "We were down, but never out. When you have All-Pro players like Ant, TJ, and Alex sitting out and still find a way to win? It speaks to the culture you've built."

Ironically, the loss keeps Buffalo firmly planted as the seventh seed—meaning the Bills will return to Acrisure Stadium next week to face the second-seeded Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card Round as the Steelers look to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

Texans going 17-0 and Anthony Richardson throwing 48 TDs is a sign of the end times
