That was my thought too. A horrible all around performance by me but a vital point. We have a few really hard matches upcoming but all focus is on Europe this week.

I knew this might happen. This is going back in the vault a bit to our EA days but I believe one of us or Danimal had this happen with losing a league cup that we were never favorites to win and getting sacked because of it.

I learned from that and made this career about the manager, not the club. Either I will get renewed and have a chance to really build. Or they sack me and I have a revenge story to build.

Fiorentina Rise Again: Moretti’s Men March On in Europe

Florence, Italy - Florence is beginning to believe again.

Not long ago, ACF Fiorentina were staring at the trapdoor of Serie A, a season unraveling amid instability, grief, and managerial change. Now, under Matteo Moretti, the Viola are writing a very different story. A story of survival, competitiveness, and never giving in.

Thursday night’s triumph over 1. FSV Mainz 05 confirmed Fiorentina’s place in the UEFA Conference League quarterfinals. It was not dominance, nor was it a fortunate escape. It was a game of controlling moments. Fighting back after an early setback and playing controlled, when the match could have descended into chaos.

Despite seeing less of the ball across the two legs, Fiorentina managed the moments that mattered. Compact through the middle, decisive in transition, and increasingly clinical up front, Moretti’s side showed maturity that seemed impossible just weeks ago.
At the heart of it once again was Moise Kean, a man fans wrote off only a month ago. His goals have not only kept Fiorentina afloat domestically but also propelled them deeper into Europe.

Next up in Europe is Strasbourg, in France. The French side survived their own last round scare against Club Brugge, winning 5-4 on aggregate to advance.

The first leg will be played in Florence on April 9, with the return fixture in France on April 16. Strasbourg represents a different challenge; tactically disciplined, physically strong, and dangerous in wide areas. They are unlikely to offer the same transitional openness Mainz occasionally did.

For Moretti, the idea remains the same: compact defense, controlling the pace, and feeding the front of Kean and Kouamé to make plays happen.

Until that April match, Fiorentina must focus on survival in Italy, facing the league leaders next in Inter. This will be the toughest test for Moretti and one he might see as a "free hit", trying to earn any point possible when none are expected.

Fiorentina are unbeaten in eight matches under his leadership. The 4-4-2 has brought balance. Kean and Kouamé have rediscovered rhythm. Gudmundsson has returned at the perfect time. Even in games with limited possession, the Viola now look organised rather than overwhelmed.

The end of the season story for Viola is changing, but it is nowhere close to finished. The nightmare mind ends in relegation and defeat in Europe, or the story might end in survival and a legendary European night.

Fiorentina fans let their boos be heard at the end of the Inter defeat for Matteo Moretti

Florence, Italy - Only one week ago, this very news source was saying Florence is believing again. Nine straight games without defeat for the new manager, moving out of the relegation zone and advancing in the European Conference League.

That is how fast things can change at the club known as La Viola. Chairman Giuseppe Commisso is an impatient man, demanding results and demanding fast turnarounds. Surviving Serie A is not enough for him; staying in Europe is the demand. After the last round's narrow escape against Mainz 05, the chairman demanded a change in tactics for Moretti.

Sources within the club said this was met with swift resistance. The Italian manager refuses to change his style, given the circumstances of the club continuing to win and continuing to earn the results needed. The attackers were starting to mesh, and the defense is improving weekly.

The same sources have confirmed the 3-1 defeat to Inter, has Commisso fuming around the offices. The change in tactics did not come, and the chairman believes his side has been humiliated and now faces sure elimination in Europe after the fans left the stadium, booing loud enough for the city of Florence to hear.

The question is not whether Moretti will leave Fiorentina; the question is when he will. Rumours have been swirling that the Italian put his name in the hat for a few positions but was denied an interview. The clubs deemed him too inexperienced, with only ten matches under his belt in the top flight. Manchester City, Lyon, OM, Club Brugge, Feyenoord, Sporting, and Hertha are rumoured to be in that mix of clubs rejecting the Italian.

There are clubs interested in his leadership, but at a lower level than Moretti might have expected. Hull City and Charlton from England, Ceuta and Almería from the second division of Spain, as well as four clubs from Serie B.

The offers all have their own pulls and drags, but the main question for Moretti is, should he leave on his terms or should he put his future in the hands of Commisso to decide his fate?
