What's the exact league format here? 36 games, home and away twice? Or, 27 with a championship round of sorts?

Still flying high at the top of the league. Promotion looks in hand if you can keep the same pace over Cork.

Definitely goal 2 on that one.
Thanks Caesar. Both of us are continuing to win. Can't avoid any slip ups it seems

Yeah 36, home and away twice.

Then no 1 is auto promoted. 2-5 have playoffs, the winner of that plays 2 legs vs 9th place in premier division then. Long format if you don't finish 1st

Wow, that IS a long run. Funny to hear about these different formats. I'm from Denmark myself, where the league has just been divided in top and bottom six, completing the season with a championship and relegation endgame. The winner of the relegation round will then play 3rd or 4th place in the Championship Round for a European spot, effectively making the 7th place more attractive than 5th and 6th. One could argue that countries and FA's could do better and make more straight forward structures. This really shouldn't be rocket science.

Winning the playoff is not enough, you need to beat the 9th Prem team to advance? That is extreme difficult.

I honestly like the American MLS format where you mostly play your own conference, but also play six (?) of the other.

There was discussion not long ago of doing something similar in Netherlands / Belgium, so to combine the leagues of both countries in a way and have some stronger opposition overall. The idea was to play national conferences between 12 teams each (22 games) after which the top 4 of both would hammer it out in an international championship: 8 teams, 7 opponents, that's 14 games.

Under current circumstance it would create a league that would challenge the French Ligue 1 - they currently have 7 seedings. The idea was to qualify for Champions League or Europa League via this championship round, while the cup tournaments remain national and grant access to Conference League: in most extreme division, one country would get 5 tickets, the other 2. But all teams would play for a collective Beneleague coefficient, so success of one won't go at the detriment of the other - so, mostly fair, higher level of competition, better chance against the big teams from bigger leagues.

Yeah very rare 2 teams go up. Really set up to protect premier division clubs. Big drop off in quality in first division talent and money wise.

Do you know thats a little like the URC rugby championship idea. Merged Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Italy and now South Africa. Produces a better product. I did not know this idea is being floated. Glad to see you have joined the board here because clearly your knowledge base is needed!
