The big story here is #15 seed Gonzaga who went 14-16 during the regular season but managed to win the WCC tournament to still secure a spot in the Field of 65. The other big story here is Michigan State. The Spartans finished the season ranked #3 in the Coaches Poll and #4 in the Media Poll but had the #15 RPI knocking them out of a #1 seed and even a #2 seed. Now MSU must face Duke in Round 2 and a potential matchup with Michigan in the Sweet 16.

The Big story here is the A-10 getting 4 teams including Fordham and Dayton yet all 4 of those teams went into the A-10 tournament as the #4/5/6 and #8 seed., with #8 seed Xaiver shocking everyone by winning the auto bid well Regular season Champ Saint Louis (24-13 Overall #72 RPI) is left out and headed to the NIT.

The other big story is #16 seed Hawaii winning the WAC after finishing 8-8 in conference play and coming into the tournament with a sub .500 record (15-16)

UNF will have to face Big East regular season champ Villanova in Round 1.. On paper some actually give the Osprey a chance for the upset. UNF comes in averaging 77.4 vs the Wildcats 74.3 PPG. Villanova also finished the season 22-8 but 4 of those loss' came in late February as well the a loss to Providence in the Big East tournament.

If UNF can some how upset Villanova they would then most likely get a rematch with Arikansas who they played in their very first game of the season.

Yeah this is the 2007-2008 season so it was Billy G's 1st year with the Wildcats. IFL they didn't do well going 18-13 losing in the 1st round of the SEC and 1st round to Marquette but they are playing much better.


As far a beating Villanova I am just getting ready to post the game. I was alot of fun, but at the end of the night their depth and my loss of not having Dominic Root my best 3PT shooter available was just to big of a hurdle to overcome..


Thanks for checking it.. It's fun going back and playing a old game I do own NBA2K25 but I just have never been a huge NBA guy.. However I have thought about going back and starting a dynasty win the 90's roster when I was in high school and did follow and watch alot of NBA.

UNF COMES UP SHORT IN UPSET BID

Defense went out the window as the game turned to a wild west shootout early with both teams playing full court press for most of the 1st half. Tied 54-54 with less then 10 seconds on the clock, JR SF Ronny Garza hits a huge buzzer beat 3PT shot to give North Florida the 57-54 lead at the break.

Villanova's Scottie Reynolds finished the 1st half with 11 pts and 9 assists well Dwayne Anderson led the Wildcats with 16 points hitting 4/7 from 3pt.

For UNF Garza was named Player of the half finishing with a team high 14pts and was perfect going 5/5 FG 2/2 3PT and 2/2 FT. Joe Thomas filling in at SG for the injured Dominic Root had 13 points hitting 2/3 from 3PT and Freshman Zam Graves add 11 pts and a team high 4 assists.

Coach Derozan knew that if his team had any chance of winning this game they would have to find away to slow down the Villanova Offense, so they Osprey stopped with their press in the 2nd half hoping to force the Wildcats into a half court offense but it didn't work. as Anderson continued to be lights out from deep hitting 3/5 to finish the night with a season/career high 29 pts on 7/12 from 3PT.

Anderson wasn't the only Wildcat scoring over 20 points. Scottie Reynolds picked up 3 assists in the 2nd half and scored 9 more points to finish with 20 pts and 12 assists well Freshman Cory Fisher had 23 points and 7 assists.

The Wildcats took a 10 point lead with 4 minutes to play and never gave it up matching UNF bucket for bucket.. UNF managed to finish 11/15 from 3PT despite not having their best 3PT shooter (Root) well Villanova finished 10/21 .

A key stat and something for R2 and UNF to work on next season is their FT% as they finished just 9/18 from the stripe.

KEY OSPREY

Sophomore Joe Thomas finished the game with a team/season/career high 25 points filling in for Root. He finished 5/7 from 3PT.

Garza finished with 19 pts well Zam Graves finished with 17 points.

Senior Center Rayshawn Sidlbe (16 pts) and C. Thiero (10 pts 3/3 3PT) joined them in double digits.

HANSBROUGH LEADS TAR HEALS TO #5!!!

JR PF Tyler Hansbrough was named MVP as he leads UNC to their 5th National Championship.. Hansbrough started out the tournament leading UNC to a (117-92) win over#16 seed Florida A&M scoring 27 points.. Then in Round 2 he went off scoring 42 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in UNC's (93-71) win over #8 Utah.

UNC met Villanova in the Sweet 16. Tied 38-38 at the half UNC scored 60 points in the 2nd half which lead to a (98-76) win.. Hansbrough had 28 points in the win, well Scottie Reynolds finished with 20 pts 7 reb and 5 assists in the loss.

UNC cruised in the Elite 8 ending #11 Rhode Island's Cinderella dreams with a (112-70) victory, with Hansbrough scoring 31 pts in the win.

UNC would meet #3 seed Kansas in the Final 4 but the Jayhawks struggled scoring just 57 points as UNC cruised to a (86-57) victory led by Hansbrough's 28 points 11 rebounds and 3 steals.

Waiting for them in the Finals was #5 Seed Marquette.

The Golden Eagles managed to upset #1 seed Memphis in the Sweet 16 with a (85-78) win, then took out #7 seed Michigan (91-86) in the Elite 8 and then beat #4 Louisville (100-85) in the Final 4.

Marquette actually led at the half (41-37) but UNC managed to pull away in the 2nd half outscoring them by 10 points for the (86-80) victory.

Hansbrough led the way with 30 points and 10 rebounds well well Sophomore Raymond Felton added 23 points on 5/7 3PT shooting.

END OF THE YEAR REPORT

HISTORY

R2 (Ryne Dezaron II) made school history leading North Florida to the schools first ever NCAA tournament appearance after guiding UNF to 22 wins including the A-Sun tournament championship.. With a 22 win season under his belt many wonder just how long R2 will be at UNF before other schools come calling.

SAYING GOODBYE

R2 will have to replace 3 key players from last season. Center Rayshawn Sidlbe was the Osprey's leading scorer and rebounder at 14.0 PPG and 8.6 RGP. Backup Center Cedrick Louh also was a key member off the bench averaging 8.5 PPG and 4.7 RPG .. Their departure leaves 6'7 Zam Graves as the tallest player on the roster.

R2 will also need to find a replacement at PG Kelyn Doss wasn't a huge scoring threat at 8.3 PPG but he did lead the team in assists 5.5 APG and steals 1.6 SPG. He also was a solid 3PT shooter connecting on 31/75 (41%).

INJURY PRONE

Freshman SG Dominic Root had some huge games for the Osprey last season and other games he just disappeared.. Literally as he missed 10 games with injuries including the A-Sun tournament and North Florida's 1st Round game vs Villanova.

Root showed he is capable of lighting up the scoreboard at times making 45/91 form 3PT (50%) finishing the season averaging 8.9 PPG

OTHER KEY CONTRIBUTERS
Root wasn't the only Freshman to play a huge role in the success of UNF last season. Zam Graves started 28/33 games and finished 2nd in scoring at 10.4 PPG well also averaging 4.6 RPG. Dramane Carter was the 6th man making 5 starters and playing in all 33 games, Carter averaged 9.0 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 0.8 SPG and led the team with 1.1 BPG.

JR SF Ronny Garza started all 33 games last year averaging 7.9 PPG 2.9 RPG, 1..3 APG and led the team with 3PT attempts (43/119 36%)

SO SF Joe Thomas started 5/33 games including the final 4 games of the season. He finished averaging 6.0 PPG, 1.7 RPG, and 1.0 SPG well shooting 32/81 (39%) from deep.

JG PG Carson Thiero appeared in all 33 games and made 3 starts. As of now he is the favorite to take over for Doss at the teams starting PG.. He averaged 5.5 PPG, 1.6 RPG 1.0 APG well making 33/74 (45%) from 3PT.

NCCA END OF SEASON REPORT

HANSBROUGH WINS NCAA POY

Tyler Hansbrough finished the year averaging 26.6 PPG, 7.3 RPG and 1.0 SPG per game. He was also named the NCAA Big Man of the Year. and was a 1st Team All-American as well as a 1st Team ACC.. It appears that he will forgo his Senior season and join the NBA draft.

RIDER'S THOMPSON NAMED MID-MAJOR POY

Senior Jason Thompson was named the Mid-Major POY.. Thompson averaged 22.4 PPG, 12.0 RPG, and 1.7 BPG for the Rider Broncos... He was also named Defensive POY

ROY WILLIAMS NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR

UNC's Roy Williams was named Coach of the Year after leading the Tar Heels to their 5th National Championship. It was his 2nd title since coming over from Kansas leading UNC to the promise land in 2005 as well.

UCLA KEVIN LOVE NAMED FOY

6'10 Kevin Love from Beaverton Oregon was named the NCAA Freshman of the Year. Love averaged 19.9 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.0 SPG for the Bruins.

Love was named NCAA 2nd Team All-American, Freshman All-American, Pac-10 1st Team All-American and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year.

A-SUN AWARDS

Not sure how or why the Belmont HC beat out R2 for A-Sun Coach of the Year but he did.

Campbell's SO SF Johnathan Rodriquez won the A-Sun POY he averaged 17.4 PPG, 12.3 RPG 2.2 SPG for the Fighting Camels.

UNF's Dramane Carter was named the A-Sun FOY

R. Sidlbe was named to the 1st Team A-Sun, K. Doss as named to the 2nd team, well Root Carter and Graves were named to the Freshman team.

COACHING CHANGES

Arizona's Lute Olson retired and they hired the Nevada's Chris Ault.

UConn's Jim Calhoun retires and they hire VCU's Anthony Grant

Texas Tech Bob Knight retires and they hire Steve Hawkins from Western Michigan

Wake Forest fires Dino Gauido after just 1 season Western Kentucky's Darin Horn.

Yeah honestly on paper I thought we might have a chance but at the end of the day they go 10 players deep that are above a 71 Overall and my best player is a 69 Overall. However just making the NCAA tournament, winning the A-Sun Conference tournament and getting 20+ wins is a huge achievement for Year 1. I maxed out my 5 attribute points to improve Coach Dezaron and the points you don't use carry over so I should have 5 more to use next year, so I could be looking at a move to a Mid-Major after Year 2 or I can hold out stay another year and try for a better Mid-Major or even a low tier Power Conference job in Year 3 or 4.. I have 6 scholarships to give out this season and my only 3 Seniors on the roster and only 1 in my starting lineup the others are my backup PG Thiero and the walkon SG I keep around as my 10th man. So my roster has a chance to add some talent if I can find some gems in this year's class.

I feel like my roster is pretty flexible. I would like to add a couple more shooters and a natural PG as well as maybe another backup Center but honestly with only 3 outgoing players I might limit myself to 4 scholarships and save the other 2 for next season.

NEW ADDITIONS

Coming off a 22 win season and the schools first ever NCAA tournament appearance, Coach Ryne Dezaron landed a solid recruiting class for his first season.

3* PF/C Manny Dupree (#414 Overall/#38 C) headlines the class and appears to be a instant starter.

3* C Christiano Ngounou comes to UNF via Cameroon following in the footsteps of last year's backup center Cedrick Louh. Ngounou listed at 6'10 is the tallest player on the roster and could very well push himself into the starting lineup against teams with taller centers, with Dupree moving to PF.

3* SG/SF Torris Dye is a JC transfer who will have 2 seasons left to play.. Originally from Compton California, Dye listed at 6'5 213lbs has the ability to multiple positions and could even spend some time at PG as he comes in as the highest rated passer on the team.

UNF also added 2* SF Nic Blankson (#759 Overall/#175 SF) as a Walkon.

THE ROTATION

After 2 weeks of closed practice, R2 (Ryne Dezaron II) has announced his starting rotation at least for first game against Miami.

JC transfer Torris Dye will get the start at PG with Dominic Root joining him in the backcourt at SG. Senior Ronny Garza will return to his role at SF where he started all 33 games last season. Freshman Manny Dupree will replace Zam Graves at PF to start the year with fellow Freshman Christano Ngoundo getting the start at Center. All 5 players are projected to play around 25 minutes a game.

Zam Graves, Dramane Carte, Carson Thiero and Joe Thomas will come off the bench all 4 players are expected to play 18-20 minutes with SR SG Edmund Bowen expected to return as the team's 10th man and likely earn 3-5 minutes per game giving R2 another 3PT option off the bench.

"We have a great group of guy's returning from last year's squad and honestly I feel like our bench has the talent to start for alot of teams in our conference Dramane Carter was the A-Sun Freshman of the year and Graves averaged over 10 PPG last season and by playing Torris Dye at PG we are able to continue to have both Thiero and Thomas off the bench giving us that spark and outside deep threat should Root continue to struggle to stay healthy.

THE SCHEDULE

UNF like last season will continue to play the bulk of their games against instate opponents limiting their # of games outside the state of Florida to reduce travel cost to start the year.

UNF will kickoff their season with a familiar opponent as they take on Miami FL on November 8th on the road. UNF will then return home the following week on 11/15 to play their season home opener vs Florida Atlantic and Bethune-Cookman on the 18th. UNF will then head back on the road for a pair of road games @ Florida INT (11/22) and @ Florida State (11/26) before returning home for their final non-conference home game vs South Florida.

UNF will then hit the road for a cross country trip as Coach Dezaron returns home to Boise Idaho as UNF takes on the Boise State Broncos on 12/6 and a return trip back to the East coast as they take on Top-25 ranked #23 Syracuse.on 12/13.

UNF will then close out Non-Conference play with a pair of tournaments first heading to Hawaii to play in the Hawaiian Island Classic and a 1st round matchup with #21 LSU on 12/17 and then they will defend their title in the UCF Holiday Classic on 12/28 before starting A-Sun play.
