Don’t fall for it. He’s brought his gaslighting to other stories.

Malik might be taking Rasheed's advice, or maybe he's still contemplating what he's going to do with this new-found information

Season III | Chapter XIV - On The Road Again
The charter bus idled in the Upper St. Clair parking lot, its engine humming steadily as the Panthers gathered around it in clusters of shoulder pads, backpacks, and duffel bags.
The air had that crisp fall bite to it now.
Players formed a loose line behind the luggage compartment, tossing their equipment bags down into the storage belly of the bus before climbing aboard for the long ride north.
Zane shifted his duffel higher onto his shoulder and stepped forward in line.
Behind him, Cam bounced on the balls of his feet like a kid who had just been told school was canceled.
"Man,: Cam said, shaking his head with a grin. "This weekend is about to be legendary."
Zane smirked faintly, without turning aroundf.
"For the game, right?"
Cam scoffed. "Obviously the game - we're going to go fucking nuclear," he said. "But I'm, talking about after the game. Hell, even before the game tonight if we can get something poppin'."
Zane finally glanced back at him. "What are you talking about?"
"Come on, bro," Cam said, lowering his voice conspiratorially. "You think we're going all the way to Detroit and not getting into something?"
Zane chuckled under his breath.
"Man, I'm just excited to get all this traveling over with," he said. "And to see Bianca."
Cam groaned dramatically. "Man, you sound so fucking pussy-whipped."
Zane shrugged. "I have not seen said pussy since this summer, so forgive me for being excited."
Cam leaned forward a little.
"Okay fair, but still," he said. "Detroit. Either tonight or tomorrow night. It's our last out-of-state game. We gotta celebrate."
Zane raised an eyebrow. "How much partying do you really think we're doing in a place as dilapidated as Detroit?"
Cam blinked at him. "Brother," he said slowly. "We live in Pittsburgh."
Zane paused. "Fair."
Ahead of them, Raekwon dropped his equipment bag into the compartment with a heavy thud. Without turning around, he said, "Whatever y'all muhfuckas got planned, I expect an invite expeditiously."
Zane laughed. "Cam's boosting the whole situation," he said. "There's no plans. My girl and some of her friends are coming down from Ann Arbor for the game. Making a weekend out of it, I think."
Raekwon froze. Slowly, he turned around.
"Hold the fuck on," he said, pointing a finger at Zane. "Run that shit by me one more time."
Zane gave him a look.
"What?"
"I seen last year's yearbook, negro. Your girl is fine as fuck - respectfully," Raekwon said carefully. "And you mean to tell me her fine-as-fuck friends ... are pulling up on us in Detroit?"
Zane blinked. "i mean...". Cam stood next to him, nodding aggressively.
Raekwon's eyes lit up like someone had just flipped a switch.
He clapped his hands loudly. “Oh we going out tonight.” He turned immediately, slapping both hands down on Malik’s shoulders just as the quarterback finished sliding his bag into the compartment.
“We going out tonight, my boy!” Raekwon announced. Malik stiffened slightly under the sudden contact. For a brief moment, his eyes lifted and met Zane’s across the narrow space between them.
It was an awkward look. The kind neither of them knew what to do with. Then Malik shrugged Raekwon’s hands off lightly. “We’ll see,” he muttered, grabbing his backpack and heading up the bus steps.
Zane watched him go. Cam climbed aboard right after him, still chuckling.
Raekwon followed, already launching into some half-baked speech about Detroit nightlife like he had been going there for years.
Zane stayed behind a second longer. Things had been weird with Malik. Since the things that had been said. They had avoided each other almost completely off the field. No conversations. No small talk. No lingering near the same lockers. Like two magnets forced to repel.
But on the field? It had been the best stretch of football they had played all year. The hesitation was gone. The looking him off was gone.
Malik was finding him early, trusting him in tight windows, throwing balls before Zane even finished his break.
It had been easy. Some would even say natural. Like the offense had finally unlocked something.
Zane climbed the bus steps slowly, grabbing the rail as he went.
He slid into a seat near the middle of the bus, looking out the window as the rest of the team boarded.
He couldn’t help the thought that kept creeping into his mind. What changed?
***
Bianca zipped up the last pocket of her travel bag and stepped back, hands on her hips as she surveyed the small disaster she had created across her dorm room. Clothes holded, unfolded, and refolded sat in small piles across the bed. Shoes were lined up near the wall they were waiting to be inspected.
She couldn’t remember the last time she had been this excited about a weekend.
Since moving to Ann Arbor, life had become a routine - classes, training, study sessions, sleep, repeat. She liked it, even thrived in it, but it had also kept her mind constantly moving forward.
Detroit felt different. Detroit meant Zane. She hadn’t seen him in person since the summer.
Just has she was sliding her phone charger into the bag, a knock came at the door.
“Come in,” Bianca called. The door pushed open and Katie stepped inside, dragging a suitcase behind her that looked like it belonged to someone going abroad for two weeks instead of a two-night trip.
Bianca stared at it. “Please tell me that’s not all clothes.”
Katie shrugged casually, rolling the suitcase upright. “A girl can never have too many options.”
Bianca raised an eyebrow. “For two nights?”
Katie grinned. “You need options when you’re spending the weekend around athletes, Bianca. Have I taught you nothing?”
Bianca laughed, shaking her head.
“Why would you even care about high school guys?” she asked. “You literally go to the University of Michigan. You’ve got your pick of athletes here.”
Katie leaned against the desk. “You never know where you might find your husband,” she said dramatically.
Bianca snorted. “You’re unbelievable.”
They both laughed, the kind of easy laughter that had become natural between them. Katie studied Bianca for a moment, arms crossed.
“You know,” she said. “I haven’t seen you this excited since we met.”
Bianca tried to shrug it off, but the smile tugging at her lips gave her away. “I mean, yeah,” she admitted. “I can’t help it, I’m excited to see him.”
Katie wiggled her eyebrows. “More like excited for your dick appointment, am I right?”
“Oh my god, stop.”
Katie laughed, stumbling a step. “I know you’re banking on a fun weekend trip, boo. You ain’t gotta hide from ya’ girl.”
Bianca shook her head, still smiling. “Oh god, nothing like that is happening,” she said. “He’s there with his team. They’ve got a game, it’s a big deal. I’ll be thrilled if he can even slip out for a few hours.”
Katie tilted her head. “Okay, but-”
“Katie” Bianca said quickly, already laughing again.
Katie held her hands up in fake surrender. “Alright, alright. I’m just saying, he’s still a red-blooded man. He has needs.”
Bianca rolled her eyes. “Yes, I’m very aware of these ‘needs’.”
Katie grabbed the handle of her suitcase again. “Fine. We’ll focus on the road trip and the football game.”
“Wouldn’t that be great?” Bianca said with mock seriousness. She grabbed her own bag and slung it over her shoulder.
“Come on,” she said. “Everyone’s probably waiting.” The two of them stepped out into the hallway and made their way down the dorm stairs, bags bumping lightly against each step.
When they reached the main floor, a small group had already gathered near the entrance - Darius and two other track teammates leaning against the wall, chatting while they waited.
Chloe fiddled with her crimson-red hair, trying to wrangle her long locks into a high pony-tail she could manipulate somehow into a messy bun, a black claw-clip waiting to be used in her mouth. Next to her, Amanda sat on her Michigan duffel bag, her thumb gliding through images on Instagram absentmindedly.
Darius spotted them first. “There they are,” he said, pushing himself off the wall. “Took you two long enough.”
Katie rolled her suitcase toward the door. “Greatness takes time,” she replied.
Bianca stepped outside behind them, the cool Michigan air brushing against her face. Detroit was only about a 45 minute drive away. And somewhere in that city, Zane and the Upper St. Clair Panthers were already on their way.
***
The charter bus rolled slowly through downtown Detroit as night settled over the city.
Streetlights reflected off glass buildings and the glow of storefronts spilled out onto the sidewalks. The area buzzed with life - cars humming through intersections, music drifting faintly from restaurants, people moving in clusters along the sidewalks.
In the distance, just beyond the buildings, the harborfront shimmered faintly under the night sky.
The bus hissed as it came to a stop outside the hotel. The doors folded open and Zane stepped down onto the pavement and immediately stretched his back, rolling his shoulders as the tension from the bus ride loosened.
“Man,” he muttered under his breath. A few hours crammed into a charter seat had done a number on his legs. Around him, teammates piled off the bus, the low chatter of teenage boys instantly filling the space. Players moved toward the luggage compartment as it opened, grabbing backpacks and travel bags while leaving their equipment stored underneath for the morning.
Zane took a second longer than most, looking out at the city.
Detroit looked alive. Lights bouncing off windows. Cars sliding through the streets. A faint breeze carrying the distant sound of music and laughter.
Not exactly the wasteland they had been joking about earlier.
“Alright, let’s go, let’s go!,” Coach Shazier called from near the entrance of the hotel, ushering the players around like cattle. “Grab your bags and head inside.”
A few assistant coaches were already standing by the doors, clipboards in hand, calling out room assignments. “Groups of four!” one coach shouted. “Stay with your group like we discussed on the bus.”
Zane slung his bag over his shoulder and toward the entrance. “Zane Jones, Malik Richards, Brock Fowler, Luke Russell.” He stopped mid-step. Coach Shazier stood a few feet away, motioning the four of them over.
They gathered in a loose circle beside the bus. Malik stood quiet as usual, hands tucked into the pockets of his hoodie. Brock, the massive left tackle, towered slightly over everyone, while Russell rested his bag against his leg. Coach Shazier crossed his arms.
“Quick captains meeting,” he said. The four exchanged quick glances.
“I’ve got all the confidence in the world that you boys are going to behave yourselves tonight,” Coach Shazier continued. Zane nodded.
“Ofd course, Coach.”
Luke chimed in quickly. “We’ll keep it tame.”
Coach Shazier gave a small hum of acknowledgement. “Now I know,” he continued, “whether we’re back home or on the road, expectations stay the game.”
He paused.
“But, I was once your age and I know what happens when you get a group of guys together in a city like this.”
Luke raised an eyebrow, Zane shared a sideways glance with Brock. Malik simply shrugged slightly. Coach Shazier sighed.
“You four are seniors. Leaders of this team. I expect you to govern yourselves responsibly and be ready to go tomorrow night. And if I get a call from the Detroit Police Department tonight,” he added casually. “I’m not coming to pick you up.”
Zane frowned. “Coach, what are you talking about?” Coach just gave him a long, knowing look. Then he turned on his heel and walked toward the hotel entrance without another word.
The four stood there for a moment, Brock being the first to break the silence. “What the hell is he talking about?” he asked as they started walking toward the doors.
They spotted the rest of the guys gathered near the entrance - Cam, Abdul, Raekwon, and a few others waiting around before heading inside.
Malik answered casually as they approached. “He thinks we’re sneaking out to party.”
Brock stopped, as if still computing what Malik was saying. “What? No fucking way.” He looked genuinely offended.
Raekwon, leaving against the railing, looked profoundly at Brock. “We are sneaking out to party, my nigga.”
Brock stared at him. “You’re joking.” Raekwon shook his head.
“Hoes are on their way, in desperate search for some Kwon.” Brock looked around the group in disbelief before finally turning to Zane like he expected him to be the voice of reason.
He shrugged. “May as well have some fun, fuck it.”
