Frank Bennett Week 1 Press Conference
ESPN Reporter Georgia Derby: "Coach Bennett, it's your head coaching debut, and the Jets debut of starting quarterback Justin Fields. What are you expecting to see from your QB1?"
New York Jets Head Coach Frank Bennett: "Thank you for your question. I mean, we all are in this league to win. However, I understand that it takes a while to get to grips with a new system, and with me taking over mid-spring, Justin will no doubt be learning some on the fly. However, he's got guys he can lean on. Him and Tyrod (Taylor) have been working non-stop on memorizing play-calls and pre-snap adjustments, and they seem confident heading into this game. As for me, I just want to see clean, turnover-free football. We need to give our defense long breaks on the bench to help them against this Steelers offense."
The Athletic Reporter John Wilson: "Welcome to New York coach, we're all excited to see the new rookies on the field tomorrow against the Cowboys. Mason Taylor excited fans in pre-season with his performances, what kind of a role will he see in Week 1?"
FB: "Mason is a great player, you know. Him and Justin have a great rapport already throughout camp and pre-season, and Justin loves to get his Tight Ends involved. However, he's a rookie, and we can't expect All-Pro performances in his pro debut."
JW: "No doubt, coach."
FB: "I'll take one more."
Jets Tribune Reporter Craig Trainor: "Coach I've been working as a beat writer for the Jets for nearly 2 decades now. We've all heard coaches promise that they're the ones to turn things around. Why should we have hope that you're the man to reverse our fortunes?"
FB: "I won't promise a Super Bowl like some coaches. Hell, I'm not going to promise anything. But I know the fans here in New York have been through the most of any fanbase in the NFL recently. I can assure you that we'll put forward a more respectable product, and become a more professional organization. You won't see players here that don't want to be here. We're going to put together a team of 53 guys that will buy in, and represent the New York Jets with professionalism and humility. Finally, the fans are the lifeline of every professional sports team. Without them, we can't function, and without them, we won't be going anywhere. This is my message to every New York Jets fan out there, new and old. I know it's been hard supporting this team. But just know, better times are ahead. Thank you."
