Earl Nienhuis tosses four touchdowns in Stanford's 45-21 win over Tennessee
Stanford won its sixth football game of the season on Saturday, a mere formality in the Bubba Mack era as the Cardinal trounced Tennessee in rainy Palo Alto 45-21 to reach bowl eligibility.
It was ugly weather and an ugly game early on for Stanford, trailing 14-7 after two long touchdown runs by Tennessee and an interception from quarterback Earl Nienhuis. Nienhuis would respond with four touchdowns, including three in the second half.
It wasn't without hiccups as Nienhuis twice fumbled in the redzone, one that was recovered by his own teammate for a touchdown and another that Tennessee defender Fabian Brown returned 83 yards for the score to make it a ten point game. Stanford would quickly extend the lead with Colt Mixon's second touchdown of the afternoon to make it a three possession game once more in what would be Nienhuis' final play of the game.
He was replaced by Logan Everett who led a touchdown drive of his own, finished off with Rashawn Crouse's seven yard run.
