3 vs. 4 November 1, 2025 || PPG Paints Arena, Pittsburgh, PA Penguins return home for clutch victory over Jets, strong effort from Gibson GAME SUMMARY The Pittsburgh Penguins returned back home after a less than stellar road trip in which they last captain and leading scorer Sidney Crosby to injury and got back to their winning ways, slipping past the fuel-depleted Winnipeg Jets in a 4-3 decision. The Penguins had to dig deep to gather enough offense, getting two clutch goals in the third period to comeback and win the game. The Penguins gathered a lot of success last season when they paired then-rookie winger Rutger McGroarty on the first line with assistant captain Evgeni Malkin. The two landed on the same line this game after a reshuffling after McGroarty started the season on the fourth line as the center, and immediately clicked up for a goal to give the Pens an early 2-0 lead after Anthony Mantha opened the scoring in the previous period. Two quick goals from the Jets after the Penguins landed themselves in hot water due to undisciplined hockey (which has thrown them into the basement of the league with a horrible 67% penalty kill rating) knotted up the game before Kyle Connor picked up his fifth goal of the season to give them the lead. The Penguins dug deep with enough time left on the clock to get back in the game and dominated, with Rickard Rakell tipping an Erik Karlsson-slapshot from the point past Jets goaltender Connor Hellebucyk and, moments later, Erik Brannstrom found a way to get the puck from the point through a littany of bodies to give the Pens a lead they would not reliquish. The Penguins will head to Washington, D.C. for a matchup with Alex Ovechkin the Washington Capitals next, with hopes that Crosby will be in the lineup. He was a game-time decision for tonight's game, but the team held him out as a precaution. Penguins acquire goalie Marc-Andre Fleury for pair of picks from Columbus

The first trade of the young 2025-26 season has officially been announced as the Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury from the Columbus Blue Jackets. In exchange, the Blue Jackets will acquire two third-round draft picks in the 2026 and 2027 NHL Drafts. The 2027 draft pick was originally owned by the New Jersey Devils.

40-year-old Fleury originally started his career after being selected first overall by the Penguins back in the 2003 NHL Draft, ushering in a new era that saved the Penguins from having to move from the city. Evgeni Malkin (2004), Sidney Crosby, and Kris Letang (2005) followed in consecutive years and were foundational pieces of the team becoming one of the pillars of the NHL's resurgence after the 2005 NHL lockout that nearly crippled the league.

Fleury backstopped the Penguins to the 2009 Stanley Cup championship, making a diving save on Detroit Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom in the dying moments to clinch the championship. Fleury, in a more minor role as inconsistency hurt his star power, won two more Stanley Cups with the Penguins when they went back-to-back in 2016 and 2017.

He was left unprotected in the 2018 expansion draft and was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights, where he would win his first and only Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender. He would end up making stints with the Chicago Blackhawks and the Minnesota Wild afterwards, signing a one-year contract this summer with the Columbus Blue Jackets for his final season, which he announced during training camp.

Fleury had yet to suit up for the Blue Jackets when the Penguins landed him, trying to shore up their goaltending situation after a less than stellar start to the season from young goaltender Joel Blomqvist. He is expected to get some more seasoning down in the AHL while Fleury backs up starter John Gibson.

"We're ecstatic to get him back in Pittsburgh," said General Manager Kyle Dubas. "People often refer to [Crosby, Malkin, and Letang] as a big three and rightfully so. It's nice to be able to remind the masses that Pittsburgh is what it is because of the Big Four, and that includes Flower."

Fleury is expected to be on the bench for the Penguins matchup against the Washington Capitals. Head Coach Mike Sullivan has not commented on when Fleury will reserve his first start of the season. Captain Sidney Crosby is also expected to return to the lineup after missing the last few games due to injury."

Thompson stands on head as Capitals spoil Fleury's debut GAME SUMMARY Newly acquired goalie Marc-Andre Fleury returned to the Pittsburgh Penguins after a few years in Las Vegas, Chicago, Minnesota, and Columbus and played amicably, but was unable to pull the team over the hump, losing to the Washington Capitals 3-1 in Washington, D.C. in the two rivals' first matchup of the season. Captain Sidney Crosby returned to the Penguins after missing the past few games with injury and made his presence felt, providing a secondary assist on Rickard Rakell's second period marker to tie things up after Capitals forward Matt Duchene opened the scoring midway through the first period. "They outmuscled us, that's for sure," said third-line center Boone Jenner. "We backed down and let them dictate the flow and the pace of the game. As soon as we let them do that, we were playing on our heels. We can't win games like that." Capitals gritty forward Tom Wilson stole the puck from Penguins defenseman Kris Letang in a messy slot littered with bodies, eventually snapping the puck past a floundering Fleury, who had no real shot to stop such an up-close shot. "That's a tough one to give up," said Fleury. "You never want to give away the puck there, but I need to be able to grab saves like that. That's the difference between points in the standings." Veteran defenseman John Carlson would push the Capitals too far in the lead for the Penguins to start up a comeback attempt. They will go back to the drawing board, looking to get some consistency in their game sooner rather than later as the lead for the Metropolitan Division falls further and further out of their grasp. The team will travel to Carolina to take on Andrei Svechnikov and their Metro Division rival Hurricanes. 6 vs. 3 November 5, 2025 || Lenovo Center, Raleigh, NC Crosby's four-point night buoys Pens past Hurricanes in Metro affair GAME SUMMARY If there's anything Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has developed a rich penchant for doing, its taking games over when his team desperately needs it. Crosby scored his fifth marker of the season early in the third period and added a trio of assists as the Penguins' offense finally exploded on the way to a 6-3 rout of their division rivals - the Carolina Hurricanes. The team got two key goals from winger Trevor Zegras and two points from Brock Boeser after the first line from their Stanley Cup-winning roster was finally reunited for the first time in this young season. The Penguins lost forwards Anthony Mantha and Rickard Rakell to injuries in their tough loss to the Washington Capitals two days, inserting Samuel Poulin and Blake Lizotte into the lineup to replace them. Though neither managed to get on the scoresheet, both played key roles in terms of physicality that helped the Pens swing momentum in their favour. Lizotte skated hard to numerous loose pucks, maintaining possession for the Penguins while Poulin dropped the gloves after a hard hit on a teammate, keeping momentum for the team. Bryan Rust scored his first of the season on a tipped shot from defenseman Jack St. Ivany while Kris Letang continued his hot start to the season with his third goal. John Gibson struggled a smidge, but still managed to stop 18 pucks on the way to a victory.
