NICKNAME 'LUCKY AJAX' APPLICABLE AGAIN

For a long time it would seem that finally an Eredivisie-team would chip away some points from dominant Ajax. In fact, the bloodless 0-0 was about to turn into a lead for home team Go Ahead Eagles, but Jakob Breum failed from the penalty spot sending the ball wide. Still, Ajax was nowhere to claim a goal or three points..., until seconds before the end of regular time when (who else) Kasper Dolberg found the net. Flabbergasted by the fact that Ajax ONCE AGAIN settled the outcome in the final five to ten minutes of the game, the paralyzed Eagles had to submit yet another Ajax-goal in injury time. On the score board, it seemed like a regular 0-2 win by Ajax, in reality the Eagles were very close to an upset.

Statement win at the Diego Maradona stadium. Napoli are great on their day, but Italian football isn't what it used to be, so these games are probably where you should get your points. Well done.

Domestically you've really found your form. 12 games, 12 wins and just 6 goals conceded. Wow. It held hard against Go Ahead Eagles though, before two late goals made the difference. They beat you on xG though, so I suppose the "lucky" term is warranted.

I did a playaround with Ajax a few months ago, something that never molded into a story or 'chise' or anything. But Mokio was (for me) definitely the talent to build the team around, and reports of him not wanting to extent his contract is very bad news. Ajax have a history of freezing players out, if they won't commit to the club long term (something we've discussed earlier, I believe, with Nicolai Boilesen as the example).

I'll never forget the day that FC Barcelona subbed on Martin Montoya for Dani Alves and had 11 homegrown players on the pitch at the same time. Sure, Piqué had been at United and Fábregas at Arsenal. But they were still La Masia players, and there was something true and honest about this benchmark. Playing with United, I also look at former academy players to see if I can reintegrate them. Teden Mengi, for instance, when Luton Town were in the Premier League. But now, playing in League One, I suppose there is a fine line between nostalgia and creating this dream of a home made axis.
