Sooners Continue Adding Defensive Talent With Pair Of Five-Stars
Boone Tillman // Sooner BornPublished: November 5th, 2029

The Oklahoma Sooners may have missed out on the two quarterbacks atop their Big Board, with Klay Abraham officially announcing his decision to attend the University of Alabama while Tonges announced his enrollment at Ohio State last month. Instead, they've ensured that any quarterback who lines up against them next season is going to be in for a world of hurt after securing the verbal commitments for both five stars Lorenzo Rozebloom and Paul Hixon.

"We're incredibly excited about the recent additions," gushed Leon when the commitments were announced by the respective players, "We pride ourselves on defense. To add a pair of top-flight prospects with the already phenomenal underclassmen we have on the roster for next season? The rest of the SEC should be terrified of the defense we're about to run out there next year."

With the additions of Hixon and Rozebloom the Sooner's class has grown to eight total recruits, with ive of them falling on the defensive side with a number of other notable prospects still deciding.

Since the news of both Abraham and Tonges choosing to go elsewhere, the Sooners have quickly pivoted to a trio of new prospects including the 241st-ranked prospect in Abbeville, South Carolina, native Markelle Nickey.

"I had Markelle rated very high at the beginning of the recruiting process," revealed offensive coordinator Jerry Mack, "He's got all the tools. I know the perception is that he is of a lesser-caliber than the other guys, but I think he's right up there with the best of them."

The Sooners have a number of visits scheduled for next week's home clash against the Tulsa Hurricanes, including ATH Joe Homer (No. 110), WR Dexter Olson (No. 285), and DT Teddy Smith (No. 289).

2029 Week Eleven Preview - Tulsa (4-3) @ #7 Oklahoma (8-1)
Boone Tillman // Sooner BornPublished: November 9th, 2029

The Oklahoma Sooners are not only coming off a well-deserved bye week, but get the benefit of another tune-up game as they host another team from the great state of Oklahoma in the Tulsa Hurricanes.

We'll see how the Sooners stack up in what is expected to be a lopsided matchup against the Hurricanes before we get to the next "Schooner Scoop" with Leon as he talks about the benefit of a late bye week, the final stretch of games, and his thoughts on a Heisman finish for Oscar Robledo.

Schooner Scoop

BT: "Coach, does it get any better than a late-season bye week combined with a warm-up game directly after to get the team in the groove for the final push of the season?"

AL: "The extra rest is always nice, but we can't pretend it doesn't come without a cost. We were in a groove, really rolling after that narrow loss in The Swamp, so you hope that while we're rested, it doesn't show on the field. We've seen it happen to the best of teams, both in college and the pros, that the rest sometimes comes with a price. That's been the message all week getting ready. We can't overlook Tulsa just because they're from the American, and we can't act like the reputation we'd earned over the first nine weeks carried over. We've got to prove it each and every week, starting tomorrow."

BT: "With South Carolina's loss last week, the Sooners are firmly in second place in the SEC behind Georgia, putting y'all in a 'win and you're in' situation. How does that change the gravity of hosting LSU on Senior Night and finishing the season in College Station?"

AL: "For other teams, that changes the preparation for the week. Not us. We could be 0-11 or 11-0, we're preparing the same way; to win. We know the circumstances that will follow the result on the field and trust me, the boys will be ready."

BT: "Last question, Oscar is firmly in the lead for the Nissan Heisman Memorial Trophy, even with last week's bye. How do you balance the decision to leave him in the game to pile up more stats, and rest him for a hopeful conference championship game and playoff run?"

AL: "That's always the hard choice, do we preserve the tread for a longer run, or try and capture greatness when it's present. But, I think him staying atop the odds-on-favorite for the Heisman even after a bye week shows how highly valued he is, so I don't think there will be extra pressure to pad stats, he'll do that all on his own in meaningful time."

There isn't much to say about this one folks, it's going to be a massacre. I'm just curious to see how Leon handles the second half and how many rushing yards Robledo can churn out before he finally earns an early shower.

Tulsa 7, Oklahoma 56.

I see you also got neither five-star quarterback that you targeted. It's a cruel world out here.

That's one of Armando's long lost lovers reaching out to him. Gonna shoot him in the other hand.
