Four-star defensive tackle Nick DeLuca picks Cardinal over Sooners as Early Signing Period nears
Chris Wallace -- 247Sports Stanford Football Insider
Stanford has received a commitment from one of the top defensive tackles in the country as Indiana's Nick DeLuca picked the Cardinal over the University of Oklahoma following his visit to the Sooner State.
DeLuca is a top 175 prospect with prototypical size for the position at six-foot-three and 303 pounds. He fits Stanford's scheme perfectly, both in their base 3-4 scheme as a five technique or even potentially at nose and as a three-technique defensive tackle in their sub packages. The pass rushing will need to improve for DeLuca in order to develop into an every down lineman but the physical tools are impressive and the upside is definitely there for him.
While Stanford was successful in their foray into the Midwest with DeLuca, they didn't find success one state over in Kentucky as five-star offensive tackle Arkemus Owens committed to Ohio State last week. Owens is the top ranked player in the state and a top 25 player in the country so pulling him from the Buckeyes was always going to be a tall order.
