Texas Tech running back Darrelle Stumph wins the Heisman Trophy in breakout season

From a backup at Colorado State to Heisman Trophy winner, Texas Tech running back Darrelle Stumph edged out Georgia's Lester Reiter to become the school's first ever recipient of the illustrious award.

Stumph led the nation with 30 rushing touchdowns and rushed for 1,763 yards this season, including going off for 132 yards in Texas Tech's Big XII Championship win over Colorado.

The redshirt junior is one of the more unlikely Heisman winners in recent history, leaving Colorado State after two seasons where he totaled eight touchdowns as a backup and played in four games last year with the Red Raiders. Stumph emerged as the starter coming out of camp and would score at least two touchdowns in his first seven games of the season.
