Given the talent we have and the lack of talent on the other teams in the conference I don't feel like the results are overly unrealistic, we see what happens when we play good teams like FSU and ND. That being said I would like more of a challenge but I don't have a plan yet.Bubba's Cruise wrote: ↑27 Apr 2026, 09:47Do you plan on moving conferences or difficulty ? CAN'T STOP THE STAMPEDE
USF jumps all over Rice early, coasts to big win

Saturday October 6, 2029 | 7:00 PM | Raymond James Stadium | Tampa, Florida
Tampa, Florida - It didn’t take long for No. 15 USF to turn Saturday night into a rout.
Behind a blistering start, a near-flawless offensive performance, and a defense that feasted on mistakes, the Bulls overwhelmed Rice 58–9 at Raymond James Stadium. By the time the first quarter ended, the outcome already felt decided. By halftime, it was.
And by the final whistle, it was a statement.
USF scored touchdowns on three of its first four drives, jumping out to a 21–0 lead before Rice could settle in. Quarterback Locklan Hewlett set the tone early, finding Steven Snead and Gerald Camarda for quick-strike touchdowns while Connor Suggs punched in another on the ground. The Bulls didn’t just move the ball, they dictated every inch of the game.
“We came out with great energy,” Hewlett said after the game. “When we’re clicking like that early, it’s tough for anybody to keep up.”
That early avalanche only intensified in the second quarter.
USF added 24 more points before halftime, with Hewlett tossing three additional touchdown passes, two to Camarda and one to Lyle Dragos, while Suggs added another score through the air. By the break, the Bulls held a commanding 45–6 lead, having piled up explosive plays and capitalized on every Rice miscue.
Hewlett finished 27-of-39 for 350 yards and five touchdowns without an interception, continuing his emergence as one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the country. He spread the ball to five different receivers, with Camarda leading the way with 10 catches for 118 yards and two scores.
On the ground, Suggs delivered the knockout blows.
The dynamic back carried 19 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns, including a back-breaking 50-yard run in the fourth quarter that served as the exclamation point on an already lopsided night. He also added seven receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his versatility as a centerpiece of the offense.
“Connor’s just different,” USF head coach DJ Porter said. “He can hurt you in so many ways, and tonight you saw the full package.”
While the offense hummed, the defense turned the game into a nightmare for Rice quarterbacks.
The Owls cycled between Reggie Corbin and Kevin Adongo, but neither could find rhythm against an aggressive USF unit. Corbin threw three interceptions, and the Bulls’ defense consistently forced hurried decisions and negative plays. Junior Devin Nowell led the takeaway effort with two interceptions, while Nick Jones added another.
Up front, USF’s pass rush applied constant pressure. Keon Brents recorded two sacks and two tackles for loss, while Jahzir Sowells and Jamerson Harris each added a sack of their own. The result was a suffocating performance that held Rice to just 203 yards of total offense and nine first downs.
“We wanted to be disruptive,” Porter said. “Win the line, create turnovers, and make them uncomfortable. I thought we did that from the first snap.”
Rice’s lone highlight came midway through the second quarter, when Alex Wells hauled in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Corbin. But even that moment felt fleeting, quickly overshadowed by another USF scoring surge before halftime.
Statistically, the gap between the two teams told the entire story.
USF outgained Rice 544 to 203 in total offense, averaged 7.5 yards per play, and converted 50 percent of its third downs. The Bulls were also perfect on fourth down (3-for-3) and flawless in the red zone, scoring on all eight trips (six touchdowns, two field goals). Rice, meanwhile, failed to score a touchdown inside the red zone and managed just 2.2 yards per rush.
Special teams only added to the dominance. Kicker Dom Bragg was perfect, hitting all three field goals and all seven extra points, while the return game provided steady field position throughout the night.
Perhaps most telling: USF didn’t commit a single turnover.
Rice committed three.
That imbalance, paired with USF’s explosive offense, made this less of a contest and more of a showcase.
By the fourth quarter, the only question left was the final margin.
Suggs answered that with his 50-yard sprint to the end zone, pushing the lead past 50 and sending the Raymond James crowd into a celebratory rhythm that never faded.
For USF, the win reinforces its status as one of the most dangerous teams in the country, a group capable of overwhelming opponents with speed, precision, and balance on both sides of the ball.
For Rice, it’s a night to forget and one that exposed just how steep the climb can be against elite competition.
“We’ve got to clean up a lot,” Rice head coach Fran Brown said. “You can’t turn the ball over and expect to compete with a team like that.”
With the Owls now dropping to 1-5 on the season Brown may have one of the hottest seats in the conference.
"Just going to keep my head down and keep working." Brown replied when asked about his future.
USF, meanwhile, walks away with something more valuable than just another win.
Momentum.
And a reminder to the rest of the country that when the Bulls start fast, there may not be a team that can slow them down.
