GET THESE HORNS
Bulls erupt for 789 yards, overwhelm Charlotte in road rout

Saturday October 13, 2029 | 2:30 PM | Jerry Richardson Stadium | Charlotte, North Carolina
Charlotte, North Carolina - South Florida looked every bit like one of the most explosive offenses in the country Saturday afternoon, torching Charlotte for massive chunk plays from the opening drive and rolling to a dominant 56–7 victory at Jerry Richardson Stadium.
The Bulls piled up a staggering 789 total yards and averaged 11.1 yards per play, scoring touchdowns on eight of their first nine possessions while never punting once all afternoon. Quarterback Locklan Hewlett orchestrated the offensive explosion with another dazzling performance, finishing 26-of-37 for 434 yards and five touchdowns.
And when Hewlett wanted to attack vertically, Lyle Dragos was waiting.
The junior receiver torched Charlotte’s secondary for 211 yards and two touchdowns on just seven catches, including scoring strikes of 77 and 76 yards in the opening quarter that immediately put the 49ers on their heels.
USF wasted little time taking control. On the Bulls’ first offensive snap, Hewlett found Dragos streaking down the sideline for a 77-yard touchdown to make it 7–0 midway through the first quarter. Just under four minutes later, the duo connected again, this time on a nearly identical 76-yard bomb, and the rout was underway.
Charlotte never recovered from the early avalanche.
The Bulls continued to pour it on in the second quarter behind a balanced offensive attack that shredded the 49ers both through the air and on the ground. Hewlett connected with Dalton Sahara on a 7-yard touchdown pass before Connor Suggs punched in a 6-yard rushing score to extend the lead to 28–0.
With halftime seconds ticking away, Hewlett delivered another dagger, hitting freshman Dominick Moncrief for a 22-yard touchdown as time expired to send USF into the locker room with a commanding 35–0 lead.
Suggs then put the game completely out of reach early in the third quarter.
The junior running back exploded through the middle of the Charlotte defense for a 74-yard touchdown run, part of a monster afternoon in which he rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 carries. USF finished with 297 rushing yards as a team and averaged an absurd 10.2 yards per carry.
Charlotte finally broke through later in the third quarter when Allen Ramsour capped a short drive with a 10-yard touchdown run, but the brief momentum didn’t last long.
Hewlett answered with his fifth touchdown pass of the day midway through the fourth quarter, finding Sahara for a 6-yard score before George Shembo added a late 2-yard touchdown run to close out the scoring.
The Bulls were dominant on both sides of the ball.
USF held Charlotte to just 245 yards of offense and only 10 first downs while consistently winning at the line of scrimmage. Ralph Livings and Jamerson Harris each recorded sacks, while Armon Chambers led the defense with eight tackles. The Bulls also limited Charlotte to 3-of-13 on third down and forced the 49ers into a frustrating afternoon offensively despite not generating a turnover.
Charlotte quarterback Deandrew Clark completed just 7-of-16 passes for 85 yards, while backup Joey Mercer added 59 passing yards in relief. Garrison Ruggins, who stepped in when Legend Chosen was injured, led the 49ers on the ground with 70 rushing yards, but Charlotte never found any sustained rhythm against the aggressive USF defense.
The victory continued a remarkable offensive stretch for the Bulls, who once again showcased their ability to strike from anywhere on the field. USF produced touchdown plays of 77, 76, and 74 yards while finishing with 434 passing yards and five touchdown passes.
By the end of the afternoon, the only thing slowing down the Bulls offense was the final whistle.

USF RECRUITING REPORT
BULLS LAND PAIR OF IN-STATE FOUR-STARS

USF continued building momentum on the recruiting trail this week, adding two more major in-state commitments with the pledges of Palm Beach Gardens running back Philip Nix and Lakeland linebacker Cornell Winston.
Both prospects give the Bulls additional Top-120 national talent in a class that is beginning to take shape around speed, explosiveness, and defensive versatility.
Nix, a 6’0”, 201-pound running back, committed to the Bulls after emerging as one of the most dynamic offensive players on USF’s board. The four-star prospect is viewed internally as an ideal fit for the Bulls’ spread offense thanks to his elite acceleration, strong lateral agility, and ability to create explosive plays in space.
The Palm Beach Gardens native possesses outstanding change-of-direction ability and burst through the hole, making him a dangerous home-run threat whenever he touches the football. Coaches also believe his receiving ability out of the backfield gives him the versatility to contribute early in multiple offensive packages.
USF beat out several regional programs for Nix’s commitment and secured a prospect who ranked among the top running backs in the country.
The Bulls also added another important piece on defense with the commitment of four-star linebacker Cornell Winston out of Lakeland.
At 6’1”, 239 pounds, Winston brings a physical frame and well-rounded skill set that projects well into Tony White’s defensive system. The standout linebacker combines impressive pursuit ability with above-average acceleration and instincts in coverage, allowing him to impact plays sideline-to-sideline.
Winston’s versatility stood out during the evaluation process. He shows strong tackling ability, plays comfortably in zone coverage, and has the athleticism to remain effective against spread offenses. USF coaches view him as a potential centerpiece of the future front seven because of his ability to stay on the field in multiple situations.
Landing both Nix and Winston gives the Bulls another major recruiting boost inside the state of Florida while continuing a strong stretch on the trail heading deeper into conference play.
