San Antonio's Dejounte Murray wins 2020-21 Most Improved Player

SUNDAY | May 2, 2021-- The NBA announced today that San Antonio Spurs guard Dejounte Murray was named the Most Improved Player of the Year for the 2020-21 season. Murray is in his fourth season after missing the entirety of the 2018-19 season with a torn right ACL. The former Washington Husky averaged 16.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.3 steals in 75 games this season, setting career highs in points, rebounds, and steals. In 27 games played after the All-Star Break, Murray averaged 17.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists helping San Antonio to not miss a postseason since 1997. Murray is also in consideration for First Team All-Defense, a recognition he received last season in addition to being on the 2018 Second Team All-Defense. Prior to the 2019-20 season, Murray signed a 4-year, $64 million contract with San Antonio as his rookie extension.

Murray and San Antonio will look to advance to the Western Conference Semifinals for the sixth time in the last ten seasons as they can eliminate the second-seed Los Angeles Clippers in Game 6 Tuesday in San Antonio.

The other finalists for the Most Improved Player award included Brandon Ingram of the New Orleans Pelicans, Marvin Bagley III of the Sacramento Kings, Jalen Brunson of the Dallas Mavericks, and Georges Niang of the Utah Jazz.

Agreed, wasn't expecting some series to go the way they went. Philadelphia at least has a solid team but I didn't think San Antonio was going to be trouble for the Clippers. Seeing Brooklyn go down 2-0 was wild too, but that's what makes the playoffs fun. Just wish I could get more injuries to occur during gameplay, it happens just fine in the sim.

Unexpected upsets in the First Round. I bet the Clippers are wishing they hadn't lost on the last day of the regular season otherwise they would've been the 1-seed. Didn't expect the Spurs to keep up with them either, but Murray played a great series along with DeRozan.

Portland blowing a 3-1 lead is not a good look, especially after missing the playoffs entirely last year. They had 6 games before Zion was healthy enough to play but were completely flat in Games 5 & 6.

Appreciate the comments, Game 1s on the next page
