How many times Ace gonna drop 50 in this playoff run? Odds are set at 9.5 games.

Kyrie Irving didn't have the most efficient night, but with the game in the balance the veteran exploded for 10 points in the final 3 minutes to propel the Mavericks to the game one win.

Dallas, TX. - For three quarters, the Ace Bailey show appeared destined to lead the Utah Jazz to another playoff victory.

The third-year pro racked up 55 points as Utah clung to a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. But without Anthony Black's defensive presence anchoring the team, the inexperience of the young Jazz roster came into sharp focus.

Kyrie Irving took over, scoring 15 of his 31 points in the pivotal fourth quarter—including 10 in the final three minutes alone. The Dallas Mavericks exploded for 38 total points in the final quarter, pulling away decisively from a Jazz team that had no answer defensively down the stretch.

Black's injury had consequences that extended far beyond his individual defensive impact. With Keyonte George inserted into the starting lineup to replace Black, the Jazz lost their most reliable bench spark plug—a role he had filled perfectly all season.

"Keyonte George is the sparkplug off the bench for Utah," noted analyst Grant Hill during the broadcast. "Without Anthony Black on the floor, they need someone to provide that scoring punch off the bench. Tonight, they simply didn't have it. Beyond Black's elite defense, the loss of George's bench scoring proved to be a massive factor."

Utah's bench produced just 9 points—a woefully inadequate total that forced the starters to shoulder an unsustainable offensive load. Even with PJ Washington sliding to the bench in an attempt to offset the scoring void, the Jazz couldn't generate the secondary offense they needed.

The one bright spot for Utah was Marcus Smart's debut in the playoffs. The veteran made his first postseason appearance in a Jazz uniform, playing 23 impactful minutes featuring solid defense and timely playmaking—exactly what the team needs in the absence of Black.

Still, Smart's contributions weren't enough to overcome the fundamental issue: the absence of a true defensive anchor in crunch time.

Utah remains hopeful that Anthony Black will be available for Game 2, with his return potentially signaling a seismic shift in both teams' gameplans. His presence would allow the Jazz to restore defensive integrity and reinsert George back into his natural sixth-man role.

For now, the Dallas Mavericks will look to ride Kyrie Irving's veteran experience and playoff poise into Game 2.

Anthony Black is listed as day-to-day and will be a game-time decision for Game 2 in Dallas on Tuesday night.
