DENVER (AP) It’s still early in the season, but the Denver Nuggets are fighting to get back into the thick of the Western Conference standings. The last time these team met up, New York came away with a narrow 136-129 victory in Madison Square Garden. Tonight’s matchup marked Julian Strawther’s return to Ball Arena since signing with the Knicks this offseason and he looked to have a better performance against his former team tonight than he did last month. Cade Cunningham was back in the lineup for the Knicks. The Knicks were still without their starting center Chet Holmgren and that was enough for Denver to push them to the brink.

It was a push and pull matchup from start to finish, despite the Knicks building up double digit leads multiple times, with Derrick Norman knocking down clutch shots throughout the night to keep the Nuggets in it. With a narrow lead in the third quarter, Julian Strawther hit a three-pointer to push the lead up to eight points. Denver ran out of gas late falling just short of taking the win at home.

Stephen Silas on struggles against Denver: We were shorthanded tonight. They planned for that, and it almost worked. Our guys stepped up and we were able to get the win. Hats off to Denver though. I think Noah even had six or seven boards tonight.

Derrick Norman on 33 point performance: You always want to have a good night, but it would have been better to come away with the win.
