After a rocky start to the season, the Los Angeles Angels have notched back-to-back series wins over the Seattle Mariners and Atlanta Braves to edge themselves closer to .500.

Atlanta shot out of the gates in this one with Mauricio Dubon hitting a three-run homer in the second inning that had fans in Angels Park looking to the skies wondering if it was going to be another case of their team finding a new way to lose early in the campaign.

However, that lead wouldn't last for long. Angels talisman Mike Trout would triple to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning before Jo Adell was intentionally walked to bring Josh Lowe to the plate, Lowe would smash a 391 foot shot to left field to tie the game up. It was only an Oswald Peraza pop-up that prevented Reynaldo Lopez from imploding on the mound.

He would do that in the next inning.

Back up to the plate, Trout would hit a homerun to left field to take the lead. Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, Peraza would double to bring in Jorge Soler before Trout added another RBI with a double of his own, leaving him just a single away from hitting for the cycle.

Trout would end up grounding out to first in his final at-bat of the game, but the damage was already done and Kirby Yates was able to come out and get his 100th save of his career to secure the win for the Halos.

"The great thing about closing ball games and reaching milestones is you know that means you were able to get 100 wins for your team" - Los Angeles Angels closing pitcher Kirby Yates

Yankees run Detmers out of the game in less than two innings, cruise to series win

The New York Yankees got their work done early as they ran Los Angeles Angels pitcher Reid Detmers from the game in an inning and two-thirds to win the rubber match and take the series between two ball clubs who are struggling to get going in 2026.

Detmers knew it was going to be a bad day from the first batter he faced as Trent Grisham doubled to left to open the bottom of the first inning. After striking Aaron Judge out, Detmers walked Giancarlo Stanton but bounced back by getting Jazz Chishol, Jr. to fly out. That's when the chaos began.

Austin Wells would double to left to clear the bases before Paul Goldschmidt brought Wells in. Anthony Volpe would get a double of his own to score a fourth run in the first inning before Detmers was able to find his way out of the inning with the damage already being done and Robert Stephenson off the bench and warming up in the bullpen.

Things wouldn't get better for Detmers in the second inning and he hung a slider over the plate that Judge crushed for a 381 foot homerun. Stephenson would come in to strike Stanton out and get out of the inning. However, Stephenson would give up three runs in the bottom of the third inning, leaving a pitch just inside the strike zone at Randal Grichuk's knees that the outfielder crushed for a 397 foot moon shot.

During this run, Cam Schlittler was dealing despite the Angels working a number of favorable pitch counts. The Yankees' pitcher didn't walk a single batter even though he faced seven full counts in the four and two-thirds innings that he pitched.

Los Angeles would score two runs in the 5th and 7th innings, but the damage was already done and the game was long gone by that point.

"The team is still learning what it's going to be this season and with that, there are going to be some growing pains like today." - Los Angeles Angels manager Kurt Suzuki
