Florida's Offense Arrives Too Late For the Party In Sooners' Runaway Victory
Boone Tillman // Sooner BornPublished: December 13th, 2031

Ladies and gentlemen, your Oklahoma Sooners are once again champions of the SEC after a 44-32 victory over the Florida Gators that was not nearly as close as the final score would make you believe. By the time the Florida Gators put their first touchdown on the board, the Sooners were well in control with a commanding 44-11 lead.

The Florida Gators kicked off the festivities with a daring 8-play drive, but after two straight incompletions and a sack on third down, the Gators were forced to send Ben McLeod onto the field for the first points of the game. Unfortunately for the Gators fans, McLeod kicking field goals instead of extra points became a theme for the afternoon.

Three times the Florida Gators drove into the red zone, yet entered the half trailing Oklahoma 28-6 after two field goals and Antwan Phung's seventh interception on the season.

While the Gators were struggling to execute, the Sooners were thriving. Markelle Nickey and Co. only needed three plays to put a touchdown on the board after the Gators field goal drive to open the game, with Dillon Slye hauling in a 33-yard wheel route to kick off the fireworks for Oklahoma.

Entering the fourth quarter, another field goal and the rare blocked extra-point return were the only points on the ledger for the Gators, who were in the process of being buried by touchdowns as Markelle Nickey collected five, Dillon Slye scored four of his own, and Maurice Lucky broke the Sooners' single-season touchdown mark.

Trailing 44-11, the Gators offense finally arrived in Atlanta, orchestrating three consecutive touchdown drives, including an improbable 53-yard bomb to Northrup who somehow got lost behind the defense.

The blitz by the Gators did nothing except make their defeat seem less gargantuan. Now, they'll have to hope their late scoring efforts were enough to sway the CFP Committee to keep them in the upcoming playoff despite the loss.

•••

Question One - Meg Semental (SEC Network): "Coach, I know a lot of the Gators' fireworks came late in the fourth quarter, but it still makes it three straight games that your defense has surrendered 398 or more passing yards. Is it a cause for concern for you and Pat Surtain Sr. yet?"

Armando Leon: "You know one thing that I hate, Meg? Is when people want to cry bad sportsmanship when someone runs up the score, yet swallow their words when the losing team is running up the score. I get they may have been trying to impress the committee, but we'd conceded by backing off the blitz early in the fourth quarter, and that's when they started making some magic happen. Now, if I kept sending the house, I'm the bad guy. But they can turn around and bomb away on us without a word of protest? I'm not singling you out, Meg, rest assured. I just find it curious how the goalposts change depending on who is at this podium."

Question Two - Timothy Hale (The Independent Florida Alligator): "Walk us through that blocked extra-point attempt, Coach Leon. That's a play you don't usually see. Did the Gators catch you off-guard with a stunt, or was it simply a good jump by their line?"

Armando Leon: "You're right, Timothy, you don't see that play a lot. Kicks get blocked, but usually someone has the wherewithal to jump on the live hand grenade. Apparently not this time. I haven't had time to watch the tape to see how we got penetrated, but you can bet your ass we ain't going to get backdoored twice."

Question Three - James McDavid (OU Daily): "What can you say about the performance of Dillon Slye. He's been much maligned all season, but in the biggest game of the year to date, he came up aces."

Armando Leon: "The kid doesn't quit. Simple as that. After how this year started, he coulda pulled his horns in and played to his strengths. Instead, he got better. Identified his weaknesses and worked at them until they became weapons. That doesn't happen by accident."

•••

Coach Leon extracted revenge on one of the only two programs to defeat him and we continue our arduous march to a third straight championship.

The path isn't paved in gold, just yet, but in due time it may bear the colors of Crimson and Cream.

Does it get boring whipping everyone or does things like trying to get a shutout/no INTs make it engaging still?

it's still challenging to try and not give up touchdowns etc. And the Florida game was nice after two close ones with Tennessee and LSU. I will admit that losing to Oregon definitely made the season less interesting since we aren't chasing the wins record, but we still got a shot at 3 straight Nattys

Arizona State's Adrian Philon Seizes 2031 Heisman Memorial Trophy
ESPNPublished: December 20th, 2031

Adrian Philon has done something no other Sun Devil has accomplished: dominated the award season so thoroughly that his name becomes synonymous with 2031 excellence.

The Arizona State junior secured the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, and Walter Camp Award victories on Friday night, cementing what many observers consider one of the most complete quarterback seasons in recent memory. Philon's 4,782 passing yards and 44 touchdown passes—paired with 571 rushing yards and seven additional scores—powered the Sun Devils to an 12-1 record and the Big 12 Championship.

"Adrian's transcendent season reminded us what it looks like when a quarterback elevates everyone around him," said one awards voter. "His ability to impact the game in multiple dimensions set a standard this year that will be difficult for future classes to match."

Philon's trophy haul continued with the Davey O'Brien Award, recognizing the nation's top quarterback. For a program trying to rebuild its national prestige, the historic run signals Arizona State's arrival among college football's blue-bloods.

While Philon's offensive brilliance commanded national headlines, Oklahoma's defense authored its own narrative of excellence—producing four major award winners in a single season.

Oklahoma linebacker Gordon Paul established himself as one of the most impactful defensive players in the country by winning three major awards: the Chuck Bednalik Award (top linebacker), the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (top defensive player), and the Dick Butkus Award (another linebacker honor).

The Maryland transfer, who moved to Norman to complete his career, became the emotional and tactical anchor of a defense that held opponents to fewer than 20 points per game. His versatility—capable of diagnosing plays from the slot or dropping into coverage—made him indispensable to Oklahoma's SEC Championship and playoff push.

"Gordon's leadership set the tone for this entire defensive unit," said Oklahoma head coach Armando Leon. "He didn't just make plays; he elevated the standard of how we execute every single snap."

In a season of historic defensive performances, perhaps no story proved more compelling than true freshman safety Quincy Enagbare's Jim Thorpe Award, recognizing college football's top defensive back.

Enagbare's emergence—two interceptions in Week 4 against Oregon alone demonstrated his ball-hawking ability—became a symbol of Oklahoma's defensive depth and recruiting prowess. That a true freshman could compete for and win national honors alongside veterans speaks to both his rare talent and the culture Leon has built in Norman.

"Quincy came in ready to compete at the highest level," Leon said. "His instincts, his football intelligence, his willingness to learn—those are the characteristics of a future All-American. The Jim Thorpe Award isn't his ceiling; it's a milestone on a very promising journey."

Defensive tackle Cole Leo claimed the Lombardi Award, given to the nation's top lineman regardless of position. Leo's 10 sacks, constant disruption of offensive rhythm, and remarkable motor made him a nightmare for opposing offensive lines throughout the season.

In Oklahoma's Bedlam victory over Oklahoma State, Leo recorded 4 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks—a single-game performance that exemplified his season-long dominance in the trenches.

Oklahoma tight end Maurice Lucky, who set the Sooners' single-season touchdown record during the SEC Championship Game victory, claimed the John Mackey Award for the nation's top tight end.

Lucky's 18 receiving touchdowns represented a quantum leap in production, transforming from a complementary piece into a focal point of the Sooners' high-octane passing attack. His ability to create separation in the red zone—and his contested-catch prowess on third down—made him a trusted target for Markelle Nickey in crucial moments throughout the season.

The Road To Glendale
Boone Tillman // Sooner BornPublished: December 20th, 2031

When has there ever been a College Football Playoff Selection Announcement that wasn't marred by controversy? This year was no different after the Duke Blue Devils, who lost in the ACC Championship Game, only dropped one spot in the rankings, thus keeping their position as one of the four teams with a playoff bye.

This drew the ire of the Arizona State Sun Devils, who finished the season 12-1 with a Big 12 Title, but were left behind not only Duke, but also the Tennessee Volunteers who stayed at home on Conference Championship Weekend.

"Explain to me how we win our conference championship, while teams ahead of us don't play or lose, yet we remain locked in where we started the weekend at," questioned a visibly frustrated ASU Head Coach Rhett Lashlee.

"Now, instead of getting an extra week off, we're forced to host a First-Round Playoff Game and fight for our lives to get a shot at the National Championship."

Likewise the Oregon Ducks, who lost only two games all season, were nearly left on the outside looking in. While the Ducks lost their season finale to the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Ohio State Buckeyes lost their last two contests: in Week 14 to Michigan, then to USC in the Conference Championship.

Yet, despite the loss, Ohio State didn't move in the rankings at all, locked into their seventh overall seed.

"The playoff was supposed to bring stability to the post-season process," lamented Rhett Lashlee, "Yet, it's never felt more random."

Regardless of the coaches ire at the committees selections, the show must go on.

#5 Tennessee will host #19 North Texas—who secured the final automatic berth with their American Championship—with the winner heading to Dallas to face the Duke Blue Devils in the Cotton Bowl.

SEC rivals face off when #8 Georgia and #9 Alabama meet in Tuscaloosa, with #1 overall seed and reigning back-to-back National Champion Oklahoma waiting in the Sugar Bowl.

Old Pac-12 foes #11 Oregon and #6 Arizona State will rekindle their rivalry in Tempe for the right to face #3 Miami—ACC Champion and back-to-back National Championship runner-up—in a home game for the Hurricanes at the Orange Bowl.

And finally, #10 Tulane will attempt to slay the juggernaut that is #7 Ohio State—who has looked very beatable after back-to-back losses. #2 USC waits patiently in the Rose Bowl for the winner.

2031 College Football Playoff Sugar Bowl Preview - #9 Georgia (10-3) Vs. #1 Oklahoma (12-1)
Boone Tillman // Sooner BornPublished: December 31st, 2031

This is it Sooner Nation. The home stretch. The final three games that will determine if the Oklahoma Sooners will join the 1930s Minnesota Golden Gophers as the only collegiate football teams at the FBS level to win three straight National Championships.

First team standing in our way is none other than the Georgia Bulldogs, who dispatched the Alabama Crimson Tide 28-22 in the first round to earn their place in New Orleans against the Sooners.

Per usual, we'll look at how we statistically match up against the Bulldogs before diving into a Sugar Bowl edition of the "Schooner Scoop."

Schooner Scoop

BT: "Three games away from history, Coach Leon. How does it feel?"

AL: "Like we've got work to do, Boone. We all understand the record we're chasing now that the post-season is here, but we can't lose sight of the fact we have work to do before we can achieve it. This isn't some backwater non-conference schedule; we're going up against the best teams in the nation who want nothing better than to say they were the ones who stopped our pursuit of greatness. We can't let that happen."

BT: "You're 2-0 against Kirby Smart in your career, both wins coming last year. Do you think that previous history gives either of you an edge now that you're over a year removed from the last time you squared off against each other?"

BT: "Yes and no. The more times you play someone, the more you know their tendencies. But on the same token, if you depend too heavily on those previous tendencies, you can get left with egg on your face when they make an adjustment on the fly. I think the biggest challenge when you're playing a team that has some experience on you, is knowing when to veer from the beaten path. They know what you like to do, it's whether you can surprise them at the opportune moment with something they don't expect. You've got to time it perfectly to get the momentum swing you want, and that's the trickiest part, in my opinion."

BT: "Final one, Coach. Injuries have played a huge role in the Sooners this season with guys like Nickey, Adcock, and Slye missing time. Going into the playoff, it appears you're fully healthy for the first time since the start of the season, as are the Bulldogs. How rare is that where both sides have a clean bill of health this late in the season, and how does that impact how this game will be viewed by the fans?"

AL: "You're right, Boone, we've had a fair share of injuries and maladies this season. That isn't to say guys aren't hurting now, this game takes it out of you, but to have no major injuries this late is a blessing. It's also a treat for the fans. You hate when your favorite team loses this late in the year and you're left wondering 'what if so-and-so played.' There's no built-in excuses for a loss now, it's you and yours versus them and theirs. May the best man win."

Here's the rub folks; we're better than the Bulldogs. Our offense is more explosive and our defense is head and shoulders over the Bulldogs unit.

We simply cannot turn the ball over. That's going to be the shit that gets us beat. Dumb interceptions, costly fumbles, special teams gaffes like what happened late against Florida. We simply can't let it snowball.

If we play to our standard, this is easily our game. But that means we have to execute for 60 minutes, not 55 minutes. I trust Leon has been preaching that all week. Let's see if the sermon took hold.
