Latics Add Edney on Loan Following Squad Adjustment
Oldham Athletic have completed the signing of Edney on a season-long loan from Portuguese side Santa Clara, adding further depth to Micky Mellon's squad as the League Two campaign gathers pace.

The move comes after the club agreed to release striker Drummond, with the forward departing by mutual consent to free up a place in the squad. While Drummond struggled to establish himself at Boundary Park, his departure has allowed the Latics to bring in another promising talent without disrupting the club's long-term plans.

Edney arrives with a strong reputation for his athleticism and technical ability, and the coaching staff believe the youngster has the potential to make an immediate impact. The deal is another example of Oldham's proactive approach in the transfer market, combining experienced leaders with exciting young prospects as the club continues its push up the League Two table.

Storywise, this is a perfect start... You're really struggling for results whilst trying to put together a decent squad with loans and free transfers. Love it.

Looking over your initial squad I didn't recognize any names. Adding Jamal Lewis and Corry Evans has brought a bit of familiarity to the squad.

You are starting to crave that first win though.

It's coming together, I've got a couple more moves I'm thinking about making before the summer window closes. completely whiffed on upgrading the GK spot but probably gonna wait to circle back there.

Busy Deadline Day Caps Off Active Summer at Boundary Park
Oldham Athletic wrapped up a busy transfer window with three pieces of deadline day business as Micky Mellon continued to reshape his squad for the long season ahead.

The headline departure saw CB Will Sutton complete a $420,000 move to German side Viktoria Köln, continuing the club's impressive record of generating transfer income throughout the summer.

The Latics also strengthened their attacking options by signing Ross McCausland on a free transfer, adding pace and creativity to the squad at no transfer cost.

In goal, Tom Donaghy departed on a two-year loan to Port Vale to gain valuable first-team experience. His temporary exit has paved the way for academy product Lee Lawton to step into the senior squad. The 17-year-old English goalkeeper, who stands 6'5", is regarded as one of Oldham's brightest young prospects, with coaches believing he has the potential to develop into a top-class goalkeeper in the years ahead.

With the window now closed, Mellon can turn his full attention to getting the Latics first win, and hopefully many more, in their homecoming League Two campaign, confident he has assembled a squad that balances experienced professionals with an exciting crop of young talent.

2025 Summer Transfer Window Recap
With the transfer window now closed, Oldham Athletic have completed one of the busiest summers in recent memory, blending smart recruitment with significant player sales as Micky Mellon continues to build a squad capable of competing in League Two.

The Latics generated approximately $1.86 million in transfer income through the departures of Mike Fondop ($550,000 to Rotherham United), Will Sutton ($420,000 to Viktoria Köln), Hudson ($320,000 to Northampton Town), Regan Ogle ($300,000 to Bristol Rovers), and Josh Kay ($270,000 to Cambridge FC). Oldham also sent GK Tom Donaghy to Port Vale on a 2 year loan.

Much of that income was reinvested into the squad, with Alejandro Arévalo arriving from Córdoba for $300,000 and experienced defender James Clarke joining from Newport County for $80,000. The club also strengthened without major transfer fees, signing Lewis, Corry Evans, and Ross McCausland on free transfers, while securing season-long loan deals for Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez from Lyon and Edney. The arrivals have injected a blend of youth, experience, and depth into a squad that has undergone a significant transformation.

While the departures of fan favorites such as Fondop and key contributors like Ogle will undoubtedly be felt, Oldham have emerged from the window with a younger, deeper squad and a healthy financial return. As the focus now shifts entirely to the League Two campaign, supporters will be eager to see whether Mellon's extensive summer overhaul can translate into success on the pitch.
