Kyle Field | College Station, Texas

College Station, Texas - Arkansas controlled the ball, piled up 426 yards of offense and ran nearly twice as many plays as Texas A&M, but the Razorbacks could not overcome the Aggies’ explosive attack in a 38-27 loss at Kyle Field.

The two teams traded touchdowns during the opening quarter. Marcel Reed opened the scoring with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Mario Craver, but Braylen Russell answered with a two-yard run on the final play of the period.

Texas A&M began creating separation in the second quarter. Reed found Craver again, this time for a 59-yard touchdown, before Russell scored his second two-yard touchdown to tie the game at 14. Jamarion Morrow’s 16-yard run restored the Aggies’ lead, although Max Gilbert connected from 47 yards as time expired to pull Arkansas within 21-17 at halftime.

The Aggies broke the game open with two touchdowns in the third quarter. Reed hit Isaiah Horton for a 74-yard score on Texas A&M’s first possession of the half and later added a one-yard touchdown run. Anthony Tallons kept Arkansas within striking distance with a five-yard touchdown run late in the quarter, cutting the deficit to 35-24.

Gilbert’s 49-yard field goal made it an eight-point game with 7:36 remaining, but Arkansas could get no closer. David Olano converted a 39-yard field goal with 1:56 left to secure the victory for the Aggies.

Arkansas finished with commanding advantages in first downs, 27-15, total offense, 426-375, and total plays, 78-41. The Razorbacks also held the ball for more than 22 minutes and converted 10 of 17 third downs. Texas A&M, however, averaged 9.1 yards per play and produced touchdown passes of 59 and 74 yards.

KJ Jackson completed 20 of 43 passes for 209 yards but was intercepted twice. The Razorbacks found more success on the ground, rushing for 217 yards and three touchdowns. Russell led the way with 81 yards and two scores, while Sutton Smith gained 62 yards on only five carries. Tallons added 44 yards and a touchdown.

Reed accounted for four Texas A&M touchdowns, completing 7 of 13 passes for 180 yards and three scores while rushing for 96 yards and another touchdown. Horton caught four passes for 93 yards and a score, while Craver turned two receptions into 72 yards and two touchdowns.

Miguel Mitchell led Arkansas with six tackles and a tackle for loss. John Howse IV recorded five tackles and a tackle for loss, while James Kandles and Ja'Quavion Smith each registered a sack. Jahiem Johnson intercepted Reed in the loss.

The defeat was Arkansas’ second consecutive SEC loss and dropped the Razorbacks to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Those two picks killed us. One of them was deep in the redzone and the other one was right after we picked them off. We got them three and out a few times but the explosives killed us. That 70+ yard score was on a third down. We actually had him stopped but he broke a couple tackles and was off to the house. Probably should have added some of this to the game article but I was pressed for time.

OL opens a big hole for Tallons

Sophomore RB Anthony Tallons got a significant number of touches with Smith and Russell banged up at various times. He gets good blocking here but also finishes hard to capitalize on his reps.
