‣ Porter reveals team name, jerseys to be unveiled following draft

Please welcome the Toronto Huskies.

With the mark of the new league year, the Washington Redskins were buried for the time being and out came the Toronto Huskies. Anthony Porter revealed the team logo and team name for the Toronto franchise, the Toronto Huskies.

The Toronto Huskies were a team in the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which was a forerunner of the National Basketball Association (NBA), during the 1946–47 season. They were based in Toronto, Ontario. The team compiled a 22–38 win–loss record in its only season before formally disbanding in the summer of 1947. Reviving the Huskies name was originally considered at the time of selecting a name for Toronto's new NBA team in 1995 (marking a return of professional basketball to the city after a 48-year absence). However, management ruled that option out when it became apparent there was no way to design a suitable logo that didn't resemble that of the Minnesota Timberwolves, so they became the Toronto Raptors instead. Nevertheless, a group of fans have created a 'Bring back the Huskies' campaign, complete with a website, TorontoHuskies.org, with the intent of having the franchise revert to the historical 'Huskies' name.

‣ Allen, Foster re-signed to three-year deals

The Toronto Huskies have re-signed defensive end Jonathan Allen and linebacker Reuben Foster, former teammate at Alabama, to three-year extensions.

Allen's deal is worth $31.5 million while Foster, who is coming off yet another leg injury, is worth $15.3 million.

The Huskies figure to be big spenders in free agency, being linked to names such as receiver Antonio Brown is who aiming to make his return to the game after an 18-month layoff.

The Huskies also have the number one overall draft pick who many are pegging to be either Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson or Ohio State's Justin Fields. According to reports, Dwayne Haskins benching late in the season last year came directly from Porter who wanted to shield the quarterback from any potential injuries that could limit their trading options.

Huskies steal the show in historic first week of free agency
Sebastian Barnes - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The Toronto Huskies aren't going to be shy about spending their money if their first ever week of free agency is any indication.

The Huskies came away with several of the top free agents including receiver Chris Godwin, cornerbacks Richard Sherman, Chidobe Awuzie and Sydney Jones IV as well as safety Keanu Neal.

Godwin's deal is the biggest, coming in at $60.2 million over four years while Neal is second with a five year, $59.3 million signing. Awuzie's is nothing to sneeze at with a three year, $40.4 million contract and Jones IV at four years, $31.8 million.

Sherman was the lone to sign a one year deal with the veteran agreeing to a one year, $16.6 million extension. In the graphic that came with the announcement from the team page, Jones and Awuzie were labeled as corners while Sherman came in at 'DB'. The veteran had previously stated that he was not opposed to moving to safety.

The Huskies also signed defensive end Derek Rivers to a one year deal and kicker Aldrick Rosas to a two year deal.

Haskins generating 'surprising' interest from teams in open market
Sebastian Barnes - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

It is no secret that the Toronto Huskies are going to select one of the quarterbacks, either Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields, in the draft later this spring. The only question is which one.

This has generated a 'surprising' market for current Huskies quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Haskins' up-and-down rookie season was followed by a sophomore slump where he struggled tremendously.

The Huskies originally asking price was reportedly a first round pick but they are now looking at a more 'realistic option' with the departure of Mitchell Trubisky in Chicago opening up a potential landing spot as well as Indianapolis and Carolina.

Haskins traded to Steelers for draft picks
Sebastian Barnes - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The Toronto Huskies have traded quarterback Dwayne Haskins and their 33th overall pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for their 17th and 81st overall pick in the 2021 draft. The deal essentially allows the Huskies to move a few slots with their second pick while also gaining an additional third round pick in exchange for Haskins.

The Steelers expressed interest in Haskins and ultimately pulled the deal despite quarterback Ben Roethlisberger committing last month on social media to returning for yet another season.

‣ Huskies select Lawrence with first overall pick

The Toronto Huskies selected Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the first pick of the 2021 NFL Draft and the first pick in the franchise's history.

Lawrence, at six-foot-five and 220 pounds, Lawrence won two national championships at Clemson and the Heisman Trophy during his junior season. Coming out of high school, Lawrence is regarded as the best quarterback prospect ever by Mike Farrell of Rivals, who said the following: "He’s the most special quarterback prospect I’ve seen in all my years at Rivals. Josh Rosen used to hold that title until Lawrence came along but I’ve never seen someone with his combination of size, arm strength, accuracy, field vision, mobility and all the intangibles needed to be great.

Lawrence drew similar praises from ESPN's Mel Kiper, grading him out as the best quarterback since Andrew Luck.

‣ Huskies pair Lawrence with another pass catcher in Moore

The Toronto Huskies selected Purdue receiver Rondale Moore with the eighteenth pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

After an electric freshman campaign that was followed up with an injury riddle sophomore year, Moore broke several records during his final year at Purdue. He broke the Big Ten record for most catches in a season with 124 catches for 1,645 yards and fourteen touchdowns.

Despite his five-foot-nine frame, Moore is able to play both on the outside and in the slot and is a likely early contributor on special teams.

Many experts predicted that with Justyn Ross, Trevor Lawrence's teammate at Clemson, available that they would select him.
