Huskies ready to make playoff playoff debut, statement against Seattle

It's been over decade since the last time the Washington Redskins won a playoff game. In just their second season in Toronto, the Huskies are trying to accomplish just that when they travel to Seattle to play the Seahawks during wild card weekend.

The Huskies come into Seattle with the 32nd ranked total defense, 32nd ranked passing defense, 32nd ranked rushing defense and of course, the 32nd ranked scoring defense. Despite the potential bad weather, it promises to be an offensive showcase with Trevor Lawrence making his playoff debut in what has been an incredible MVP campaign.

Lawrence leads the league in passing yards and touchdowns with 5,099 and 44 on the season. He'll be without leading rusher Sherwin Florence (shoulder) or electric receiver Rondale Moore, who ruptured a disk in his back against Houston in the season finale and is out for the season.

Russell Wilson leads a similarly potent offense with six-three receivers D.K. Metcalf and Damonte Coxie providing some mismatches on the edge as Toronto doesn't have a corner over six-feet.

Huskies defense steps up, intercepts Russell Wilson three times in the fourth quarter
The Toronto Huskies fielded one of the worst defenses in NFL history this season. The one caveat, however, was there ability to create big plays with sack leader Chase Young on the edge and rookie cornerback Ashley Konrad leading the league in interceptions.

It was Young, Konrad and the Huskies defense that rose to the occasion, shutting out the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth quarter as Toronto was victorious 22-14 on Saturday to win their first ever playoff game.

Seattle took a 14-13 lead in the third quarter following Russell Wilson's touchdown to Damonte Coxie with six seconds left in the quarter. The lead was brief, not because Trevor Lawrence and the offense scored but because after a three-and-out, due to Keanu Neal forcing a fumble that was recovered by Chidobe Awuzie for a touchdown.

The next two drives ended with Wilson being intercepted by Konrad and on the third drive, it was Devin McCourty who picked off Wilson. Despite three straight interceptions, the Huskies offense failed to grow their lead until Aldrick Rosas kicked in the 54-yard field goal with 1:56 left in the game.

Wilson's last drive began with a 21-yard pass to Will Disley but he was then sacked on back to back plays before throwing two incompletions to end the game.

Vikings complete fourth quarter comeback, score 21 unanswered points to take down Huskies
The Minnesota Vikings are no strangers to final seconds miracles in the playoffs. It also didn't take long for the Toronto Huskies to suffer their first playoff heartbreak.

Trevor Lawrence's stripped sack was returned for a touchdown and six plays later, C.J. Ham busted out of a pile for a 64-yard touchdown to complete the 21-0 run as the Vikings came back to beat the Huskies 34-27 with a backup quarterback and advance to the conference championship game.

Toronto had a shot to win the game in the final seconds, getting to the 9-yard line on first-and-goal with 2:02 left in the game. Lawrence completed a 1-yard pass to Darrius Shepherd, who finished with ten catches on the day, but his next two passes were incomplete. On fourth and goal, a pressured Lawrence saw Chris Godwin becoming open on a slant but his pass fell incomplete.

After Toronto forced a punt with 20 seconds left, Lawrence's hail marry attempt was intercepted on a tipped pass.

Daly, Huskies part ways after abysmal 2022 season for defense despite Young, Konrad

The Toronto Huskies and defensive coordinator Brendan Daly have agreed to part ways, as first reported by ESPN's Adam Rapaport.

The Huskies finished dead last in every category despite leading the league in sacks and having the league leader in interceptions and likely defensive player of the year, rookie cornerback Ashley Konrad.

Daly was one of the first hires of Huskies head coach Eric Bienemy, who was on the same staff with Daly in Kansas City where he was a defensive line coach. Daly previously served as a defensive line coach for the Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Rams and New England Patriots.

Bienemy and GM Louis Riddick are expected to make big pushes for recently fired head coaches Brian Flores and Mike Tomlin.
