Young signs smaller but shorter extension with Huskies to end year-long negotiations

The Toronto Huskies and pass rusher Chase Young have agreed to a five year, $115 million extension.

Young had reportedly turned down two offers from Toronto last season, both in the $180 million range, and was instead eyeing a deal closer to Cincinnati's Joe Burrow, who signed a six year, $209 million deal.

The number for Young ended up being a lot lower, taking a lesser year and signing the extension with hopes that Young, 24, will be in-line for another mega-deal before he reaches 30.

While negotiations haven't begun for quarterback Trevor Lawrence and wide receiver Rondale Moore, they are expected to begin shortly in the next few weeks. Getting Young sign was priority number one for the Huskies front office and they got it done.

With Moore and Lawrence almost guaranteed to receive extensions -- or a franchise tag -- this hampers negotiations with receiver Chris Godwin.

"There isn't much of an appetite from Toronto to get that deal done right now," said a source close to the situation, "Once they get Trevor [Lawrence] and [Rondale] Moore situated, that's when they'll start even thinking about re-signing Godwin."

Godwin's contract expires after this season and after putting up ridiculous numbers his first two seasons in Toronto, his numbers dipped in 2023, averaging 63.2 yards per game compared to his previous two seasons where he averaged at least 90 yards per game.
