Huskies re-sign Garrison and Thompson to bring back defense but lose TE Hopkins to ankle injury

One advantage that teams have is the ability to re-sign potential free agents before other teams even get a chance. Toronto did just that with it's key starters such as QB Trevor Lawrence, DE Chase Young and WR Rondale Moore. Add pass rusher Nolan Garrison and safety Jalen Thompson to the mix.

Toronto re-signed Garrison to a four year, $32.8 million extension while Thompson, the team's starter at safety the last two seasons, got a three year, $13.7 million extension to keep him in a very team friendly deal.

The deals leave Toronto with around $54 million, enough to potentially re-sign wide receiver Chris Godwin, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie and punter Tress Way. Whether or not they choose to go that route, however, is a separate conversation.

Toronto did lose, however, tight end Brycen Hopkins with a dislocated elbow. The team did not place Hopkins on IR but do expect him to miss the rest of the season. They then released running back Najee Harris and signed tight end Harrison Bryant
